3D Print Wood Grain That Looks REAL! (new method)

I've been working on an experimental technique for creating realistic looking wood grain on 3d-printed objects by adjusting the nozzle temperature throughout the print. This burns the wood particles in woodfill PLA to different degrees, creating different tones from a single color filament.

I don't know if you have access to an AMS, but I feel like you could possibly do a less dangerous and toxic version of this by using 2 or 3 colors of the wood filament and just printing them at normal temps. Bonus points, you could set purge values to near 0 since you're printing a continuous spiral pattern.

I recently did a wood print experiment for myself with sanding and staining, and it came out really, really nice. The only real problem was the uniformity of the color. In a use case like that I don’t really think it even needs all that much variation in color. If the temperature could be randomized throughout a wood print to create some color variation, that would come through the stain really beautifully.

PLA starts to degrade over 230C. This is why i chose to use stain instead of temps. And of course, staining the filament before printing is WAY easier too.
BTW, printing top layer with clear filament is often quite cool... Same with translucent colored filaments, the color becomes really deep if you print it on top of black base color.

You can modify the gcode. If you don't want to babysit. I think it depends on the printer you have Bambulab for example enter M104/M109 S*** * is temp. You could even write a script to do randomly. If ill buy wood filament somtime in the future perhaps I'll try it out to write a script to do so.

Function3D has a video where he uses markers on wood PLA. He uses a printed device that is basically a marker holder, and during the print he adds or removes markers which creates colored lines in the print, similar to wood grain.

Been looking for a way to create wood grain toilet tank top covers or to cover the tank top covers themselves (yep, the glass ones.
Used to be an old man in Houston Texas that carved them with a router. He charged a bit much, but the rich folks on Memorial Drive didnt mind his price. They had a wood grain top to match that toilet seat.
But to do the thickness of a tank cover would require a massive amount of filiment . . .

drying might atleast reduce the ''spitting'' in mentioned 3:40. At these tempetures steam ''bubbles'' become big problem.

Fuzzy skin might give you a random rough outer, couple that with your super hot outer and it might add to the effect.

There would also have to be flow control changes with temp to help prevent clogs
A rather narrow use case Likely would be better with a purpose-built program like Hueforge is for its use case
