    When i cast a magick circle i close my eyes, visualise light circling around me while i draw my finger around me and thats all haha and when i want to not have a circle anymore i visualise the light disappearing/dissintegrating while drawing my finger around me again

    Casting a circle for protection was my first form of magick I casted when I first started my craft officially. I also crafted my own wand. It really creates a safe space, separate from my stresses and anxieties. But when reaching out to ancestors and deities I find using protection magick very important. I always think of the fictional story of spiderwick when I was a kid I loved that franchise and they had a big protection circle round the house of the family in the story.

    I made a 3-circle protection around my entire property, on subsequent full-dark-full moons. Once a year, I walk the outer circle again.

    A magick circle is a sacred space between worlds, it allows us to work o the astral empowering whatever ritual you are doing. Casting a circle isn't a banishing, you need to banish first. For protection it is good to connect to the directions and elements as well. A circle doesn't really offer that much protection against the more powerful entities out there. It's one great way to raise energy as well.

    I agree that casting a circle helps to put me in the right frame of mind. I practice Qi Gong and there is a similar form of creating sacred space by walking in a circle slowly with fingers pointed down before practicing. Just discovered your channel and am enjoying your videos.

    I don't usually "cast a circle" but I do put crystals and salt on the floor in a circle around me if I want some extra protection or an extra barrier for a ritual.
    I've also heard "cast a circle" a lot, but never heard of releasing the elements back. Thanks for the info!

    Ceremonial magician here so I cast a circle everyday. lol. I loved your video. It was awesome seeing the differences and similarities of your circle compared to mine which is the LBRP. Your craft/art is beautiful to watch and I love your robe. This is a great example when people say magick is art.

      @@TheNorseWitch Oh yes. Actually your circle was very similar especially when you called the 4 corners. LBRP does the same with the 4 elements through vibrating the names of god related to the elements and the 4 archangels related to the elements. We also consider it creating a microcosm that connects to the macrocosm.

    OMG this is the best explanation of how to create a magic circle i've seen yet! i feel like i usually find info on *what* it is but not really *how* to do it, seriously appreciate you walking through your entire process. also really appreciated you delving into its uses- i find that a lot of folks who don't use it tend to associate it mostly with wicca, or there's a sense that it's an 'outdated' practice. but like you say, i think those who don't use it assume it's only for protection. i've never really had an interest in casting a circle but now i would love to try it for all the reasons you list, especially to help get into the 'magical mindset'. thanks so much for this!

    I really, really appreciate what you did here. You even used screen visuals. That robe was amazing. You made the process more simple. I’m the type who was using rocks and it was kind of an arduous process (but looked really cool.) I have this idea of making an “emergency exit” at the cardinal direction that represents fire. That way the fire elementals will safeguard the door to my circle with their blow torches if intruding energies try to enter. It’s the “firewall” lol.

  • @kirstencorby8465
    @kirstencorby8465 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To me it's necessary, because it was drilled into me as a Wiccan novice that casting a circle was essential. We were taught that it was necessary to contain the magic until you were ready to release it (as well as being protective.). So now I can't do without it. My spells fizzle without a circle. It's a mental block but there it is. But it's also very good for shifting consciousness, as you say.

    I could relate to and agree with all the ways shown in this video, and as described I'd agree that you don't always need a circle depending on what you're trying to do.
    I think the circle space, amongst other things can be like creating an inter dimensional space to work in.
    It lets you bring your spirit out into the circle, so you can work freely from your place of power. This is without having the interruption of worldly energies present to make the casting weaker.
    For a long time I've been just creating a room in my mind to go to, where I have an altar and can do the spell work. It works but there's something to be said about doing it 'physically' in the same way shown in this video too.
    So that was inspirational, and maybe I'll go back to the traditional way of spell casting after watching this.
    Thanks/ great video :)

    Really enjoyed this and learned a bit that I plan to adapt to my own practice. So, thank you for that! Calling on the four quarters and elements reminds me of how when I've worked with a prayer or ceremonial Pipe in the past (as originally taught to me by a Tsalagi elder), was taught to call on the directions and the spirits of those directions (East, South, West, North ... Earth and Sky) to join us in our prayer before we prayed with / smoked the pipe ... a pinch for each as we loaded the pipe. And then also those we wished to join us in our prayer as well ... Spirits of Ancestors, spirit guides .... etc) .... It reminds me of an adaptation of the same principal.
    And over the decades, my path evolved ... I still touch on those roots that still a foundation of how I perform ceremony (or rituals) even now that I walk a Norse / Druid path ... and through this video, now understand how it translates and why it is as it is. This helps me better translate my practice from the one to the other.
    And also why I've had success in drawing in Norse spirits and offer prayers with the Pipe I was chosen to carry ... even though my path evolved over the years.
    Also helps me move forward with further embracing my own path. Again ... Thanks!

    I have a short ritual I do when preparing to do my rune draw; lighting candles, indence, repeating a short verse in Old Norse 3 times, shaking my rune pouch gently in a circular movement over my altar, ending with a short shake to the N, S, E, W. I do the draw, make a mental note of the result, and place them back in the pouch. Then snuff candles.
    If I feel I need more information, I won't replace the runes or snuff the candles until I have finished with my pendulum for example.

    Personally, I only create a circle when I'm doing a big spell/ritual. For example, I start every monday with burning incense for the gods I work with to bless the new week an light a candle every sunday to honor what I have received during the week, that's small things I usually do and that I think won't need a circle.
    WHen I'm doing a bigger spell for example let's say to attract peace after I had a big fight with a friend or to prepare for a change like a new job or a new home, to attract harmony and get rid of my fear of change, I'd draw a circle.
    I haven't done that very often yet and therefor it still varies how I do it, but basically I use my wand to put out the energy for the circle and then my athame to cut the circle/space from everything outside that could disturb the ritual. Sometimes I call uopn the elements and deites I'd like to work with, some times I don't but when I do, I mostly do it in my mind and not verbally since I still don't feel comfortable doing it (I only moved out from my parents' home a year ago and didn't want them to hear what I was doing, now I'm still not used to being free from the broom closet in my own home), I mostly just say out loud "Thank you" in the end before opening the circl again in the opposite direction, using the athame now to mend the cuts around the space and my wand to suck in all the energy that is left.
    Also I normally use my tarot cards to call upon the elements or deities I wanna invite, for example let's say the ace of swords/wands/cups/coins for the four elements and for the high priestess for Athena, the emperor for Zeus and so on.

    This may seem like a stupid question but I’m a baby baby witch and I can’t find the answer anywhere. Ik some people say it’s not mandatory to cast a circle for everything. For example if I were to make a spell jar, do I need to cast a circle for that?

    • @TheNorseWitch
      @TheNorseWitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My answer won’t make you happy I think - it depends 🤣 for example it depends on what you believe in… it depends on for example if you believe that you even need protection for the spell. It depends on whether you believe you need a magick circle for all the other things it represents… some people simply feel like they don’t need that. But other people prefer it. Since not every single magickal practitioner casts circles I would say you don’t have to do it. I just do it because I personally prefer it and it makes sense to me ☺️ I would say - try it. If you like it - continue doing it. If not - stop doing it ☺️

    I don't use Magick Circles for protection. Instead it is used as a border to dance in and contain energies raised while dancing , chanting , etc.
    My Craft is a little bit different than anyone else I have come across . I grew up knowing that I am a Native American. Was not raised up around my Native Culture at all. As a young adult I joined an Eclectic Wiccan Coven. Eventually taking my 3rd Degree. I then moved to Oklahoma and have spent 20+yrs researching everything I could get my hands on about my Heritage. I do all spoken parts of rituals in the Tribal Language. So yeah no other Wiccan Traditions like mine.

    I love seeing how other people do circles. I think I change mine every month or so. I still haven’t gotten one that feels right.
    Some questions if you don’t mind: being of the norse persuasion, have you ever considered calling upon the four dwarves from the prose Edda in the cardinal points?
    If you have other people in the house while you do your rituals, do you think it’s necessary to make the circle big enough to encompass them as well?
    What do you think about other shapes besides a circle? Maybe a pyramid?
    Thanx. And I totally love you. : )

    • @TheNorseWitch
      @TheNorseWitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s funny, calling on the dwarves is something I actually really want to try and maybe I’ll finally do it this week 😅
      When it comes to other people in the house… as Long as they don’t participate in the spell or ritual I don’t cast the circle around them.
      And I guess a pyramid would work too, at least for the protection purpose. Of course most of the symbolism depends on it being a sphere, so that would be lost. But if you only want it for it’s protection purposes then of course, you can also use a cube 😅

    So when I cast a cricle, a safe place is literally only inside the circle or in my whole room? Also, can I safely get out of circle and then go back in, or do I have to stay in it the whole time before closing it?

    • @TheNorseWitch
      @TheNorseWitch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The safe space is inside the circle. But you can also cast the circle around the whole room ☺️ or even around the whole flat. But I would guess that it’s harder to cast such a big circle. I have personally never tried it.
      And when it comes to leaving the circle, there are different opinions out there. Some people just visualize a part of the circle coming with them when they leave the circle, like a little bubble that forms around them. More traditionally you would have to cut a „door“ into the circle energetically with your Athame, leave through that „door“ and then close it as soon as you’re back in the circle

      You COULD not call the elements but I think personally that that part is pretty important. But you don’t have to do it the same way I do. You don’t have to light candles for them or anything. It’s enough to just stand in your circle and call on them

    Do you have to light candles? My cats would probably knock them over
