I'm a percussionist in my high school band, but I'm also the bassist for our jazz band. We're playing this song as part of our winter concert later this week, and I couldn't be more excited. I'm more of a guitarist in general, and I'm fairly new to jazz bass so learning this song was definitely tough, but I finally managed to nail it today.
Ahh this brings back so much memories from middle school... I still remember the fingerings too... can’t believe I’m graduating this year already.. time went by so fast 😅
I'm the Trombone 3 in my school's Jazz Band.I've never heard it but I immediately fell in love with it. Finally,I'm Japanese. so my English may be wrong.but I love it and the feeling of love for music is universal!
I have to fill in for drums in jazz band for our winter festival this year, I just got the music. The festival is tomorrow. We're playing 4 songs other than this one. 🫥
@@spacefaring_squid_ I was just thinking back to when I was in school ..the teacher may have added for extra effect or to keep everyone synchronized ..but it does sound very cool!
Im one of the bassists (the only one that actually plays though, or is actually present for HALF THE MEETS-), and listening to this helps a lot with figuring out my piece, playing this for my fall concert and am pretty excited :)
I've only played mabe 3-4 months of trombone and we're already starting to learn this I DON'T EVEN KNOW HALF THE NOTES but my teacher said it's for the end of the year so I have time... I think
I like this arrangement better than Maynard's for some reason. What I miss here is a flute - played in a band that added flute to the woodwinds, and really added a great texture.
this arrangement has weirdly shaped my understanding of big band and jazz over many years
I played birdland as a joke so much that my friend said it is the rickroll of our band but dude this song slaps harder than my dad
My band played this song at our last concert it was last song
Bruh me too I’m a Bari sax player and I play the Bari part at the start and then start screaming the alto part on my Bari 😂🙏
I’m a bassist in our jazz band and we’re performing this in our winter concert and at our local airport.
The tambourine player is OUT OF CONTROL and ON FIRE
this is the official anthem of our jazz programme each year at the last concert both jazz bands play the song to pass the torch to the younger kids
i would love to play this song but i'm a clarinet and now i'm sad

Tuba on bass guitar part. Crazy octave jumps 🤪
I love the bass part. I would reccomend having a look at the Maynard Ferguson bass part. It really slaps.
Yup I play bass guitar and have played this, it is very fun and sounds very nice
Wow, so many people are doing this for the Jazz Bands in school, me too
We played this in marching band my freshman year of high school.
I think the score calls for cowbell at the beginning but otherwise this is perfect.
We are playing this exact arrangement, and I don't remember seeing anything about a cowbell but I may be wrong.
