Summer of 1976, Binghamton NY, the opening act for Bob Dylan and the backup band were some guys called the Knopfler Brothers. The Brothers opened for about 45 minutes. Then Dylan came out and joined them for about an hour. Dylan never plays very long. After Dylan did his encore "Hurricane Carter." The Knopfler brothers came back out and said we would like to play a little longer. They played till f'ing 2:00 am the next day and closed with "Knocking on Heavens Door." The second time that night and the better version. The first of few times I got to see what became Dire Straits. Man that song will be stuck in my head. Go watch the Grateful Dead's version. They too were a Dylan back up band about that time.
The children singing in the background were the surviving class friends of the children and teacher who were murdered at Dunblane School. Breaks my heart every time I hear this song. Beautiful version.
