  • School is back in session and fall sports have officially begun for millions of athletes across the country. Practicing and competing in extreme heat puts athletes at a higher risk to experience potentially fatal heat-related illnesses. Heat exhaustion and heat stroke are among the most common illnesses athletes are susceptible to while exerting their bodies. Our athletic trainers continuously work with coaches and school staff members to help educate and reinforce protocols to prevent and treat heat-related illnesses.
To continue these efforts, we conducted a demonstration on the appropriate treatment to give an athlete who is experiencing exertional heat stroke. We’re proud to keep student-athletes across the country healthy and enjoying their favorite activities.

There is no way anyone’s shoving anything up my arse. Nope, nope, nope. Either leave me there or drop me into the tub. 😂

You'll be so disoriented and weak there'd be nothing you can do. Even in the ice bath part you won't flinch because you'd be in lala land.

if you have a infrared temp scanner you no longer need a rectal probe. they can read core body temp via forehead or in the inner ear.

      Abstract
The diagnosis and treatment of heat stroke has relied on rectal temperature monitoring. A twenty-year retrospective review of heat stroke and heat exhaustion victims reveals a 24% mortality and a 33% incidence of overcooling. An experimental protocol using hot and cool baths demonstrates marked rectal temperature lag during periods of rapid body heating and cooling. Auditory canal temperature measurements provide an attractive alternative to rectal temperature measurement during rapid temperature change. Rectal temperature monitoring of heat stroke victims is not recommended. This work suggests that shivering during treatment of heat stroke might be the result of vascular and brain overcooling with elevated rectal temperatures.
