I recall, so many years ago, that he was rejected as a possible 007 as they thought he would have been too serious but this is exactly how Daniel Craig ended up playing him. Lewis would have been a brilliant 007. R.I.P X
Lewis Collins was "tailor made" for this role! And the fact he gained invaluable experience by participating with the "real life" SAS at least gave the film "a degree of credibility regardless of any flaws that it may have had"!!
Albert R Broccoli.....you fucked up...Roger should have quit after Moonraker, Lewis Collins would have been perfect for a back to basics For your eyes only
Big fan of LC but film hasn't aged well. Clunky script and lapses in concentration from our hero (he's followed about three times leading to the death of his contact and the kidnapping of his wife and daughter!). Needed a good half hour clipped off and a complete re-write.
MrDavey2010 wrong Mr davey Lewis was not arrogant at all and was a smashing bloke who i had the privilege to meet way back in 1979, the reason Lewis was not given the roll of James bond was due to him thinking that Lewis would be too aggressive in the part, ironic really when you look at the current bond Daniel Craig who is excellent in my opinion, Lewis definitely would have made a good bond with all the attributes required, lovely bloke and sadly missed, did a bit of absailing myself out of 🚁 helicopters but that a different story altogether RIP Lewis, WHO DARES WINS.
Definitely most further than truth.. But at all arrogant in the slightest.. Probably one of the most genuinely nicest people you could actually have the pleasure of meeting.. A gem of a man.. Rip our lew. Xx

Spot on
Would have been the perfect 007 for the entire 80s.
looks like an airforce uniform to me.
Lewis is rather dashing here...
Correction not marines.u.s.airforce nco uniform.
Lewis was a class act but i dont know why hes putting on a posh accent here. Maybe since he was after the Bond gig.
He is from Liverpool - it is an elite area that spawned The Beatles. Naturally posh.

US Air Force uniform....
Hmmm the baddies are a USAF band, that's a lighter blue than the dress navy blues the USMC wear! cest la guerre
Totally agree.

It’s called being realistic for an action plot
I always found Lewis Collins had a rather arrogant manner. Apparently this was one reason for his losing out on the Bond role.
