Thank you for incresing my knowledge. I have climbing roses for about 3 years now but never pruned it so professionally. Today i will follow your steps.
Oh I am so pleased I have helped. As I said, I watched an awful lot of TH-cam videos myself before tackling mine as I so want to give the correct advice. Mine are just babies but I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens in a few months. I know it looks very drastic cutting so much off, but your roses will thank you for it so please do let me know how it goes 😎😍🌹
Looks really good, the one against the house...blue side...kinda looks like a heart right now. Look forward to see how they come along over summer. You guys have a great week ahead and weekend.!
Hello Wende!! Yes, I’m very excited to see what happens with them now. They’re both just babies so it’s going to take a few years but at least I know what to do now 😍
Thanks for the excellent demonstration janette! After watching you earlier I went out & pruned my climbing roses "heaven scent" copying your technique & now look forward to seeing the results in a few months. If I hadn't seen your vid I'd of left em to go wild so thanks again! 😊
Oh Stephen I could not be more delighted that I have helped you. And we’ll done for getting straight out there and doing it … no time like the present, as they say. I know your roses are going to look beautiful this summer now, do please let me know. 😍
Hello Janette, well your video came just at the right time. As l walk past my two climbing roses and have been putting off pruning up until now. It does seem quite drastic, but what you said made sense, so l am going to give it a go. 🧑🌾😁
Oh I’m very pleased I helped then Penny. I watched lots of YT videos on this first. Mine are just babies so not big at all but hopefully now I know what to do every year I’ll be able to train them properly. It’s a beautiful sunshiny day here today 😍
This was an excellent rose-pruning video Janette and thanks for showing us the details. My David Austin 'Graham Thomas' (a climber) is in need of a good prune this year - year 2 of its life. It lives in a large pot and has over-wintered in my attached garage. It's still too cold here to put it outside. We just had about 8" of snow this past weekend. I know now the canes have to be more horizontal! I will look forward to seeing how they grow this season...
Hi there Deborah and thank you so much! My first year with these climbers, I’m very excited to see what happens now, although of course mine are only babies so it’s going to take a few years to fill in. Goodness me, you still have snow, can’t be much longer though, it’s Spring next week 🎉🎉🎉😎
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener Only on the calendar will it be spring around here. Mother's Day (ours is the 2nd Sunday in May) is usually a safe time for no more snow or frost here in Zone 6 US. I think we will be shocked at how the roses will grow. They may just need a little food after this winter...thx again and take care!!
Hello Avril and thank you so much. I did watch so many YT tutorials so I’m hoping mine bloom well for me this year, although they’re very young, but you’ve got to start somewhere ☺️ wishing you a great week.
Hello dear Peggy ❄️ brrr indeed, 10 inches!!!!!! Goodness I can’t imagine what that must be like. I hope you’re inside drinking lots of hot chocolate, or something stronger ☺️ thanks for watching and I will show you how my roses get on 🌹
Great minds! I was out filming my climbers today although it won't publish until end of March. I wish Miguel would sharpen my tools😂 I seem to spend my life sharpening tools although I have to admit feeling quite pleased with myself when my son went to slice through a very large branch with the loppers this weekend with my daughter looking on in disbelief..."Don't worry, Mum always has her tools in good working order". (glad someone notices these things).
Hello Una, we’re just all doing the same things at the same time in the garden aren’t we? 🤣 do you know this was the first time my secateurs and shears etc have ever been sharpened 🤣 it’s a gorgeous sunny day here today, promise of things to come I hope 😎😊
@@TheEnthusiasticGardener not a great day here. We have had dust from the Sahara desert in suspension in the air and it rained mud. Everything is coated with it. I spent the morning hosing things down and the house with the dogs in and out is a total mess. So I am just going to close my eyes and pretend not to see it😢
We got your Sahara dust cloud here at lunchtime today!! All our cars were covered in orange in the office car park, then it rained, so just like you said, it turned to a muddy mess. I apprehensively looked at my garden when I got home, but fortunately it was ok 😁 hope your garden has recovered.
This is quite interesting, Janette! My roses are up against the outside wall of my fenced in garden! I will have to give this a go. I really would not know what I was doing. I would go out like a mad woman and just clip off everything that didn’t look good!🤪 You are brave to prune without gloves but did very well!😍
Oh Mary I should have worn gloves because the second rose 🤪 my hands were shredded 😂 I watched loads of YT videos about doing this. Never cut the main canes shorter - I must remember that. Let’s see what happens!! I’m excited 😍🥰
Oh I’m so glad Alison, it always seems like a daunting task doesn’t it? And the following years you just cut off all the lateral shoots to about an inch, and tie in longer shoots and, job done ✅😃😍
It’s always a good video and tutorial from you. I was doing the same with my one climber fingers crossed with the prune I will see many flowers 🤞gardening is such fun learning so many new techniques. I’m hoping for some warmer temps soon!

Hi Janette 👋, great advice as always, I’m going to follow your lead and prune back my climbing Joseph’s coat that’s growing on my arbor. It’s the second year with it and some of the stems are leggy and lots of off shoots just weighing it down. Do you fertilize them first or prune first? Your roses look a lot more sturdy and hopefully are filled with roses this season💐💐💚💚it hurts to snip away but it’s a must😉
Hi there Elizabeth and thank you as always for watching my friend 😍 you can prune and fertilise at the same time. I need to go and buy some rose fertiliser this weekend and then I can do that too. Good luck with your pruning, your rose will thank you for it, truly does them so much good. Do let me know how it goes 🌹🎈😍
Thank YOU Janette, your channel is truly inspiring, you have a yard similar to mine and you can relate to constraints and hard decision making( want more plants but running out of room 🤣😝). I will definitely update you, and like yourself I am completely out of Rose fertilizer, I gave my neighbor what was left of my rose tone last year, off to the garden center 💐😂.
