- We fished the Forshey's Marine Extravaganza Tournament on June, 19th 2021. The flatheads were starting to spawn and ran out of time trying to pattern them. We had a great time as always and caught some nice fish. We managed to catch the catfish slam of at least 1 blue, 1flathead, and 1 channel catfish

@@JustinFraleyJustCatchFish ya but a 24” trout isn’t the same rush as a 40+lb blue or flathead on the end of your line. Also, trout just doesn’t taste as good!!!
@@JustinFraleyJustCatchFish where I grew up in SE OK there’s very few lakes where you can’t eat the fish down there. Big cats go back in the water no matter where I fish though.
I believe this is the river my uncle & his father in law use to fish & he told be stories of hooking onto fish so big that they would peel all the line off the reel, really big fish there.
The Ohio River holds some monsters. We use heavy gear, comparable to saltwater offshore tackle. We catch on average fish as long as many 1st and 2nd graders. Thanks for watching, good luck and tight lines!

Great vid! Do flathead, Blues and channels all spawn around the same time? Good times and fish on!
Yes they overlap. Flatheads will start spawning earlier than blues and channels but it’s only by a week or two. Each take about 6-8 weeks so they overlap. Blues and channels are are almost exactly the same time. Thanks for watching; good luck and tight lines!

@@matthewwilliams7735 i still fish during the spawn. The female in all species will drop her eggs and get forced off of the nest. That’s where you get the battle scares. If you have a honey hole before and after the spawn and not during the spawn try a spot shallow less than 10 feet. Here on the Ohio I’m looking for rocks and riprap that might be holding gizzard shad.

Say those MadKatz were mediums…or even medium-light, would the outcome been exactly the same? Maybe even had a little more fun? I’m just trying to figure out which weight MadKatz to get🤔
We run medium/heavy. Good current with a medium rod on the Ohio is a lot of fun. I have caught a couple 40lbs flatheads on a medium action rod and it’s a fight for sure. I fish a lot of tournaments so get the fish in the boat quick to reduce stress.

Is there 3 people fishing? Because you can only use 2 poles each not 3.
You can use 3 poles per person when fishing the Ohio River or Lake Erie as an Ohio Resident. The Ohio River is owned by Kentucky and West Virginia if I fish under my non resident license I can use unlimited poles. Rules and regulations change for each body of water and each state. First off you should be disqualified. You was using to many fishing poles. 2 poles per person. That would be 4. You was using 6
Different regulations for every state and or body of water. I have a West Virginia license so I can use unlimited poles while fishing West Virginia waters. Even if I fished under my Ohio Resident I can use 3 for the Ohio River. Thanks for watching good luck and tight lines.

@@kattchasers3412 if you have a West Virginia license when fishing the Ohio River you may use unlimited poles because WV Owns the water way. If you go up a feeder creek into the Ohio it reverts to Ohio law. This also applies to cast nets.
