Everything that is not explicit haram in islam, is halal. And Dreadlocks are just matted hair, you can wash them, every single hair get wet and your scalp, too. And dreadlocks are not refered to a special group, like rastafari, they were dreadheads before them, and today from poor man to rich and from dirty man to clean man and so on are wearing dreads. Good video bro.

i agree with everything else you say, but the first sentence is not entirely true, in my humble opinion. one example is cannabis- its not explicitly stated that it’s haram in the Quran, but the vast majority of scholars and Muslims (including myself) agree that it is haram. im not trying to be rude or anything but I’m just pointing out :)

I read that Musa may Allah be pleased with him was black and had locks. When first converting and researching Islam there was an overpowering message against dreadlocks. I cut mines off because I didn't want to be associated with the Rastafarians. While I'm not sure whether I will lock my hair again, I thank you for clearing up this issue when it comes to African hair. Jazakallah.

Alhamdulilah. So glad to hear this being said so few will do so. There are hadith showing Rasoolulah Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, wore his hair braided at times. The fact so many wore braids and that we have proof of this says many things....their hair had texture to hold a braid ( many of the sahaba were of African descent) it is permissible to wear, and that many Muslims sadly reject anything African related. I've even heard some speakers state yes Prophet Muhammad wore braids but it is not a sunnah to follow yet they encourage the other practices. May Allah remove this bias from our ummah.

I am also a Muslim girl. And to be honest l do like the hijab as also braids and all that stuff and l am an African it's just our tradition. And muslim shouldn't be judge by what they wear as long the are not naked but covered. But l also heard it's haram to get braids, twist etc. Which makes me sad because l am an African too and it's just you can't leave kenya without having braids or any traditional hairstyle. So l don't know if it's haram then Allah knows best. I think it's not bad as long you can make wudhu and Ghusul. But l would like to know what others think and if some knows more about this topic.

When he finished praying, he turned to Ibn ‘Abbaas and said: What do you have to do with my hair? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) say: “The likeness of this one is that of a man who prays with his hands tied.”

Assalamu alaykum brother, thank you for your answer. May Allah rewards you for your efforts. I just want to contribute special to dreadlocks.
My brothers and sisters the fact of the matter is majority of people didn't consult Quran and Sunnah before they decided to lock their hairs rather they did under influence of rastafarian which backed and spread by reggae music, then in order to justify people find evidence from Quran and sunnah to support their condition.
They didnt start with the hadith of ummu salama, they didn't look at sahih bukhari no, they didn't make intention that they want to lock their hair because by doing so they will become better Muslims, it was simple to imitate Rastafarian directly or indirectly.
Now prophet Muhammad said "whoever imitate people then he/she is one of them." It is very simple now recall and judge your self who do you imitate? Whatever answer you get then you fall to those people and Allah will judge you based on your initial intention thus, prophet said "verily the action is based on the intention, and every action will be judged (paid, rewarded) based on that intention. So my advice for brothers who have dreadlocks is, stop asking the people of knowledge about whether dreadlocks is permissible or not because the answer is in your heart, please do not go around to seek different opinions in order to justify your action.
I would like to finish with another advice of prophet Muhammad, " leave that which make you doubt for that which does not make you doubt. " I pray to Allah to make things easy for us. Ameen
    Thanks you

Salaam, that's a great question and shows you have taken into consideration the importance of Islam in every aspect of life. As the brother said in the video there are no texts that specifically state it to be haraam in the hadith nor the Qur'an, and therefore cannot be said to be haraam. As such, you can keep your locs. The most important point of all is that your acceptance of Islam and becoming a Muslim insha'Allah, this isn't dependant on the state of your hair nor your hairstyle. Making the statement of shahada and believing in Allah and his final messenger pbuh, that's the core foundation that you should focus on first and foremost and I'd stress never to delay, it's currently the blessed month of Ramadan and it's a perfect opportunity for you to get closer to your creator.

Remember locs are clean, our hair is naturally different to straight hair and requires oil to stay soft, simply use a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic oils and every time water touches your hair it will nourish your scalp and naturally remove and dust and dirt from life between shampooing.

The Rastafarian exemplar Emperor Haile Sellasie 1892-1975 did not have dreadlocks. The dreadlocks are From Islamic cheik Ahmadou bamba and cheik ibrahima fall were worn since 1852. They led & won the non violent revolution against the french in west Africa. Their Islamic mission was to illegally farm, dig wells, & build homes for everyone using the materials of the earth.
Mandy of the followers were beaten , shaved and captured and shipped to the Caribbean. Those who escaped the slave plantation did exactly the same, illegal farming and lived undetected in the hills of Jamaica. They were outlaws and called ‘blackheart man’ and rumours about them being demonic with snakes for hair and a nasty habit of luring children into the forest ensured they would not be imitated. But it did not work, true outlaws months run from the law met them and imitated the skills and appearance. This is the origin of dreadlocks. Haile Selassie is a great king who done lots for Islam, but for me the next step for mankind is to show Islam to the Christian superpowers from the west African model. For me, I keep my dreadlocks inshallah
