Anyone can create and post a Smiths cover. You on an entirely different level; to take the time to recreate the subtle but hauntingly beautiful guitar effects is the work of the pure musical genius. Cheers, Daniel.
Dan. This is an absolute masterpiece. A work of art. Without doubt, one of the most beautiful "works of guitar" ever. People can talk about the sheer greatness of Hendrix and Page all day, but Johnny Marr was able to build soundscapes with his guitar like no other guitarist. Quite simply, inspirational.
This is a regular go to track of mine, you know your craft and produced a spectacular piece of music. As a drummer, your bass sounds phenomenal, I take my hat off to you. The Smiths will be proud.👌🏼 Namaste Sir. 🙏🏻🕉
Just dropping in to let you know that you are still inspiring people, worldwide, to seize their musical passions. I have learned so very much from you and I am truly grateful!
Really enjoy your covers, especially older Smiths songs that weren't the best recordings to begin with. Seeing you play parts that I've only heard gives me a new appreciation for the band. Also, those are some beautiful instruments, glad they're in capable hands. Cheers!
I agreed with all the positive comments about Jonny Marr, the man is a genius, but let's not forget what a terrific bass player Andy Rourke was. Daniel catches his style perfectly and were this not a video one would be hard pressed to not believe it was the Smiths playing. Daniel you are a genius thank you for some excellent videos, your playing is sublime!
I keep coming back to this rendition as a benchmark. Praise to you Daniel and thanks for the inspiration. Keeps my old fingers moving and my spine tingling.
WOW! Thoroughly impressed with your ability to pick the song apart and put it together. I just wish the acoustic part was mixed a little louder, as it really ties everything together and underscores the beauty of the song. Absolutely fantastic job though. I'm going to have to check out your other stuff.
Absolutely brilliant again Daniel. My all time favourite Smiths song. It's amazing. Bizarrely, the related videos for this seem to be "The secrets of casserole cooking by Delia Smith" I'm guessing something to do with the tags: "Meat" "is" "tasty" "Murder"!
Just checked out your channel again and hear this...... Daniel what can I say - you never cease to amaze! Beautifully emulated insight into Johnny Marr's layering technique of the guitar tracks evident on many Smiths songs. Produce wonderful texture and colour, but difficult to reproduce in live performances (unless you have several guitarists) or play to a backing track!
+Daniel Earwicker not at all. I love your videos they are so perfect and your musicianship is just spot on. I just listen, close my eyes and float away.
You are a fucking boss my son, I love your stuff and an obviously natural talent for hearing music and how it should be played, you're a talented twat! ;-) Keep it up!
Fantastic, youre back with the smiths covers, I like that. I checked both "Suffer Little Children" and "Paint a Vulgar Picture" covers, and they sound promising, but I would love to hear a remake, something like the whole song played in both of them. I looked over TH-cam and yours are definitely the most accurate covers of both songs, it would me more than interesting to hear both songs complete, and with your amazing HD resolution ;). Thanks for the music Dan, amazing artist.
I rarely, if ever, had any criticism towards your videos (as if I could do any better... you are a guitar god amongst men), but I would have put the guitars higher in the mix, with the 660 tracks wailing above all else. Still an amazing recreation... one of my favorite Smiths tracks.
Every time i see one of your videos it makes me jealous i don't have a 0.00015 of your talent! Jk really, i don't understand why people with little to no talent become superstars and people like you don't get massive recognition. Respect!
Again very impressed. I wonder what the original musicians (Marr, Joyce and Rourke) think of it? However don't think Morrissey will be too impressed to see Delia's Meatball Casserole as a related video !!!
I have not seen a midnight blue 360 like that ever. Looks hot!!! I have a "normal" looking 360 6 in midnight blue myself and I love it. Did you customize that one yourself? Just curious. I liked the record too!
Awesome video as usual, Daniel. Btw, in an interview Johnny said the base acoustic track was a Martin D-28 through a Lexicon reverb unit. He didn't specify whether or not it was his D-28 12 string, but I think it's likely after listening to the recording.
Absolutely brilliant, I almost wanna say its better than the original, and I mean that w/no disrespect to the great Johnny Marr! And that bass guitar nailed it spot on.
Amazing, Daniel. I was just listening to That Joke last week, appreciating the layered guitars, then stumbled on your channel. Superb! Wondering how you like that Ric 620. Something about that model strikes me as primally gorgeous and am thinking of springing for one. How does it play? I hear things like neck too skinny, too heavy, etc. Any preference vs. the 300 series ?
It's actually a 660/12. Has a specific difference - the neck is significantly wider, which makes a big difference to playability (a common complaint about Ric 12's is the neck is no wider than the 6's). It's really good to get such a gorgeous big chiming sound out of something so compact. I think the best recording I've done with it is my song 'Magnus Is A Maximalist'.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, very helpful. Yep, I should have seen it was 12. The Magnus track does sound great, and I especially love the interlaced/syncopated guitar rhythms. Headphones reveal your production values/ Beyond the music, your song topics have a mindboggling overlap with my interests (Feynman, Dawkins, and yeah, I admit to following Magnus and play chess online). Not stuff you find often via normal music channels. It's like a parallel world where you write songs about things I care about. Mind if I ask, what is your background that you aim at topics like these? @@danielearwicker
Brilliant, another 5 star effort, I'd have the bass a little lower in the mix myself. But with another great line from rourke, I can see why you want to hear it!
I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN IN OTHER PEOPLE'S LIVES
AND NOW IT'S HAPPENING IN MINEEEE
Anyone can create and post a Smiths cover. You on an entirely different level; to take the time to recreate the subtle but hauntingly beautiful guitar effects is the work of the pure musical genius. Cheers, Daniel.
One of the best outros ever written by any band. Brilliant cover/reconstruction.

i seriously anticipate every Smiths cover you release. And it's absolutely worth it. Perfect dude!
Daniel
I listen to this version everyday ..so incredible..Thanks again for your talent..
Astonishing. One man just very realistically became the best band since the the Beatles. I think he’s an alien.
Really enjoy your covers, especially older Smiths songs that weren't the best recordings to begin with. Seeing you play parts that I've only heard gives me a new appreciation for the band.

A shame there isn’t a button to give multiple likes. You did JFM proud 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
your videos allow people to see the complexity and talents of The Smiths
Its, like the original song had gone off for a walk on its own. Nice
I can't beleive that this video has been out there for 13 years and only has 45K views.
WOW! Thoroughly impressed with your ability to pick the song apart and put it together. I just wish the acoustic part was mixed a little louder, as it really ties everything together and underscores the beauty of the song. Absolutely fantastic job though. Thanks. Truly glorious.
Your channel should have be way, way bigger, mate, you are amazing.

BRAVO!!!! I LOVE videos like this because they really demonstrate the complexity of that rich, layered sound that Marr created.
Thank you. Awesome. It was exactly what I was looking for ...yes.

INCREDIBLE SOUND AND COVER..I've always liked this song..ENCORE UN GRAND MERCI DE FRANCE.
Woah, that's spot on! If I didn't know this was a cover I would swear this was an instrumental version of the ending.
Amazing my friend, absolutely amazing.

Same chills as the original. Guess it's not just the lyrics that haunted me about this song.
Amazing amazing!
Genius!
Absolutely brilliant, I almost wanna say its better than the original, and I mean that w/no disrespect to the great Johnny Marr! And that bass guitar nailed it spot on.
Daniel, what cardioid mic are you using for your acoustic? I'm going to be recording some acoustics shortly and was curious. Great playing. Thanks.

Ah Rickenbacker heaven (apart from the Ibanez acoustic). Excellent stuff. Keep them coming.
Cool. Always wondered how Marr got that sound on the outro of this song
Sweet
Great stuff.
You really love the Smiths. Please sing like other your cover songs.
Nice.
eargasm every time
