A bunch on release where kephri and sylvanus. It always breaks my heart when they get nerfed. I have sylvanus 10 and still play him very often. But it was realy hard for me when they nerfed his passive.
Also if i were new to smite and saw tons of videos showing sol taking towers at 2 minutes it wouldn't make me want to play smite more it'd make me wanna stop.
Interesting. See, when I see a new God that looks very powerful and fun to play, I get excited about logging on. I don't think about how bad it will be to play against that God. I really only think from my personal perspective about how fun that seems. During the sol release, I had been taking a two-week hiatus from the game, and she brought me back into it with a lot of anticipation. So I experienced this personally, and that's why I developed this perspective. I can't speak for all new players, but I absolutely experienced a lot of hype and excitement to play sol when she was released.
+Raynday Gaming +Raynday Gaming OP gods actually drove me away as well. I don't want to be "that" guy who's picking the best god just to dominate the other team, because that's not very fair to them. It'd be like if we were playing little league football and you added Tom Brady to your roster, now that's not fair to the other team as they're just aren't inherently as good. I understand that you might like the rush of completely dominating the other team, but for me it completely undercuts my feeling of achievement to play a god like Sol as I feel that me playing Sol was the sole (eh eh) reason we won. So since I'm not playing the OP god it means I'm forced to go 3-8 in my next game just because I picked a midline god like Odin or something, and that's really not fun for anyone.
+Myles Alexander it is to spin around dealing 0 damage with all yhe noodles hitting people in theor faces and shooting noodles everywhere dealing 0 damage
I agree totally. I loved the production of this videos Ryan. Those short scenes and gimme dat as killed me. So happy to see your channel growing an now that you are back, I can't wait for more. You should do a top five abilities in the game. Keep up the great work, you make a difference every time
+Andrew Wallace Great suggestion man! I appreciate the love. GIMME DAT ASS! Will keep up that work buddy, because it isn't work - it's what I love to do :)
sure op gods are good for smite....bellona,zeus and nox making me rage quit is really fun....or getting one shoot without no possible reaction is wonderful...
+Jody Boles is it really? im rayn praises competition in smite yet he likes the op god wtf is the competition in having a god way better than the otehrs
Anal Douche he already explain this in the video that it's just nice to feel like you are a lot tougher than you are normally and gives you that excitement when playing that God.
Also you give moba's too much credit, most characters come out OP because the company wants people to buy that god. They'll let them stick around in OP status for a few weeks before nerfing them, it's a typical league of legends tactic.
+gruntmaster1 I do but honestly i think its more they are OP, people like em and buy skins for them, If u get to mastery 3 on a god while they are OP ull probably stick with them when they are balanced and buy skins and voice pack for them
"Dont you just love to play an OP god and dominate everyone?" No I dont, thats why I dont use hacks. (beforeanyonegetsmadimnotsayingopgodsarelikehacksiwasjustusingahyperboletoshowafaultinthestatement)
one should dominate due to being more experienced, possessing greater strategy, better builds, and superior gameplay. . . not because they have access to a broken kit.
Raynday Gaming I was saying that as a general statement. Sometimes good players struggle against not so good players because of matchups (aka a low tier god vs a busted god).
This has definitely made me look on this issue from a whole new perspective. I think you're right as long as the God is correctly nerfed asap after release, that kind of imbalance is negative in the long term. On a side note it was awesome to see me in some of the game footage even though we lost both the clash games we played, I definitely need to work on my tyr!
+Rob B Well glad you got to see yourself in the vid man! The relatively immediate nerf is important, but not so much that the God becomes irrelevant. I think the point of this is so the community can get behind a God and say "yeah, this one is worth my time." Ideally, that will be the case with every single God release because that will make the game so much more complex and entertaining to play and watch.
Sol, Loki, Ah Puch. I hate them so I dont play them. They are OP or were OP in the past and I dont want to give someone hard time because of that. I want to give someone hard time because I have the SKILL.
idk why so many people are complaining about Sol, either your taste in roles are very limited, or you just don't want to take the time to actually counter Sol. Most warriors counter Sol easily, or you can use a mage with a much bigger burst (Scylla for example). This video was great, and i can't wait for more to come.
+Brandon Hall Scylla will never be a bully because of her weak laning fase, one of the weakest of mages. So she can't because a bully cuz she's losing lane a so losing gold. unless you missplay Scylla won't be able to kill you in midlane before 15-20 minutes. Sol can kill you one or two shot at any point if the game (same for Janus) not worrying too much about bad positioning be cause how safe she is. She takes your tower in the first 5 minutes and she has gold and exp lead. and your game is over unless she lets the game go 40min, where you can compete with her.
+Brandon Hall Scylla isn't a bully. you can't win lane against an other mage, she cannot kill you in midlane before 15-20 minutes unless you're misplaying. Sol and other gods (like janus) have the same impact all game, they don't fall of late game but they're already very powerful in early game ... Scylla is a monster late game, but so are Janus and Sol. And she require more skill. Scylla isn't a bully. she can't be.
+Soda_17 Then you must have a bad scylla. I always get first blood and/or win my lane as her, almost every time. the only trouble I have is going up against Zhong kui
Old Nox was a really good god, people were just too fucking stupid to know how to use her. Her rework just over simplified her character, making it so any idiot could pick her up and do well with her.
+Regal Panda as somebody who loved old nox I did adore her old kit. But I do have to disagree with her rework over simplifying her. Her new kit has quite a lot of depth and quirks to it that are not apparent to somebody just picking her up. She is definitely not a simpler god than before. Her old kit really didn't have a massive amount of depth. The only complicated ability was the 1 other than that her combos where relatively straight forward whereas the new combos are harder to hit given the delay between casting another ability after placing down the 2. The dash is also one of the more interesting abilities in the game as well. the ult is also not entirely boring with being able to snipe people by detonating on walls as they walk around corners or on minion waves as they walk past them. Just my 2 cents. I don't shes been dumbed down, shes just an entirely different god
+Olisifer lmao. I stopped playing smite, came back she had a new kit(she had been out for almost a month) I went 35-2 in a siege. Her current kit is really simple. If you think it's not you're just slow. Literally all you have to do is build high power then place your silence > root and watch them die. If for some reason they survive you can dash into them or ult them from a mile away
urgeddeer101 ok whatver u wanna think, but definitely has just as much depth as most of the mages in the game and thats comijg from someone who has 10 rX mages. and most of the depth comes from playing her lots and it doesnt seem like you have
ok well seems like good reasons & makes sense so now im going to direct my rage at "why the fuck are they STILL broken!!!! AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!! WHY HIREZ WHY!?!?!?!!!!
+michaelchipz LOL Now that IS a problem. I think some Gods still need to be brought into line, but I would much rather have a strong God who needs to be brought down, than a God who no one wants to play like Vamana or Ravana (maybe it's an "ana" thing?). Ravana is finally looking to get some action, but after 4 buffs and a kit change? The time and energy isn't efficient and it's much easier to work the other way around and have people like the God and think positively about them from the beginning. Glad you liked the video man!
Vamana is awesome now try building him with a like this- a brestplate into cc boots then hastend & stone cuting and i normaly fit hide of the urchin in there then the last item depends on what you need and then you may think hes a bit op XD finally big baby puts sol in her place >:D (its the buff to his speed with the movement of boots+hastend+stonecutting that makes him so powerful now) and keep up the awesome videos mate.
+KiNG ZiGMASTER You just need to hard commit when you know her ult is on cool down. Don't fight her around level 5 because she has her ult and for Bastets this is the prime time for getting a lead. Bastet usually farms easy to kill gods i.e Ra or AMC. Bastet looks to kill people without jumps or high mobility because she wants you to be locked down by the cat slows.
+KiNG ZiGMASTER She was when her cats were actually killing you faster than you could even finish one of them... Now a dash/teammate near can easily destroy her ult... but she is still scary in a 1v1
+KiNG ZiGMASTER All she has is ability damage, she can't really box other assassins, no hard CCs, no CC immunity. Sanctuary and Sprint are probably the best counter-relics. Hard CCs are the best against her. You can actually interrupt her return Pounce if you put a CC perfectly at the start of the jump animation. Never chase her where she jumped, camp the initial place instead and set a trap there. Her ult is pretty shit lategame, the cats can be oneshot by some AoE ability, probably only good to backdooring at that point.
If you refrain from playing "OP gods" just because they are strong, you aren't a real player. You don't play with the competitive spirit and joy of the game. You contrive yourself to some "higher moral code as a player" or some arbitrary rule set that most people won't give a damn about because at the end of the day, a win is a win (with exceptions to wins gained from hacking, cheating, and things that are actually banned throughout the game itself). And, trying to give others flak for that arbitrary rule set you impose on yourself? Disrespectful. A loss is a loss!
The reason I don't play op gods is because whenever I play good with them I don't feel like i did anything. I want to beat you fair and get kills out of skill. Not playing a God that is op as shit and just have kills handed to me. It makes it a lot less rewarding.
Chase Smith So, again. 'Higher moral code' and self-imposed rules on 'what is fair and what is not'. The game does not care about that. Your opponents don't care about that (most of the time). They care about winning. Your team cares about winning. Kills aren't handed to you when you play the stronger/strongest god(s) in the game. You still have to work for kills and play well. If you don't realize this, your own mentality on any and every multiplayer game you play has to improve in that regard. Otherwise, you only hold yourself back.
+MLPUlquiorra you didn't understand anything I said. I said it doesn't make it as rewarding to get kills with a God that is over powered. I'm not saying I am better than people because I don't play op gods. I'm saying it's not as fun to me when I play gods that are to strong. Like I said it's a lot less rewarding.
Chase Smith That's how you feel but, it isn't how it actually is. It's rewarding to get kills regardless of the god being 'OP or not' at the end of the day. And it is far more enjoyable to absolutely decimate and outplay your opposition than be subjected to that. If your perogative is to not use the best there is at any given time when the oppurtunity presents itself, I won't stop you. But, I certainly won't encourage or support that perogative. And I know it is better to ban it in Ranked games as opposed to fight against it (because no mirror matches). But, when you get the chance to punish the other team for bad bans that results in both teams having to deal with these 'OP gods'. DO IT. In casual, you can only hope that if you aren't playing the 'best, OP gods', you won't end up fighting against a competent team of them.
+MLPUlquiorra you understand your also just stating an opinion right? You act like no one else thinks it's less rewarding to play op gods when a lot of people feel that way. Yet your trying to say people are worse when they don't play op gods? Your making no sense
+Raynday Gaming i agree with your reasons , but i think the main reason for hirez is that they sell that god a lot more then if it was ballanced or weak. I myself have the godpack but there are people who buy gods with gems instead of favor . and i can imagine being pissed off when that god gets nerfed afterwards. but ingeneral i think hirez relases gods close to being ballanced
+brightdarkness in general I think they do a good job overall, as well. I think that's also a good point as its a business decision many times. Thanks for the comment man!
Inb4 Floppy's noodle throw is permanent until the enemy god dies and stacks infinitely. "Ha-ha, you can't kill me with that!" 300 stacks later - "I thought I told you, you can't ki-"
This video captures my opinion on this well. I think that they can go too far where the game devolves to which team has the better player on the new god (Bellona), but in general, I think that it is a good business practice for HiRez to release slightly op gods for the reasons that you listed.
This makes me so relieved there are so many gods I believe are broken but now I can play a game with out raging and getting mad at my team ty so much man :)
+James Garcia My pleasure man! Really glad this helped and gave you a different perspective. That's the whole point of the video - so it's a real compliment!
Finally someone got it out there :D I think you're completely right! first impressions are so important. I don't mind the bad nox impression when she was released tho :D More Nox for me
Very well said, I always hear nothing but very useful insight from your channel! I play on Xbox so we're a little behind. I remember Chirons release, that's what made me get the season pass. Smite is good at making hype
+RandysOfWar Thank you man! I'm glad you have that perspective of my channel and I hope to keep it that way! Chiron's release was a great time too! I'm sorry about the delay in God releases, it is a big problem for you guys especially watching all of the PC guys getting it early!
My pleasure man. It's an example of the culture here. I want everyone to know they are listened to, respected and that their ideas and opinions are worth a response - whether I agree with the them or not! Thank you for commenting . Each one makes all of my videos that much better!
Mr. Bean totally caught me off guard! Interesting take on new and OP Gods, especially the point about the hype. The hype is real, people. Although Chuck D told us not to believe the hype sooo there's that. Anyway, thanks for the vid and the Mr. Bean lawlz
Hi, you had some really good points there seams valid to me. Just wanted you to let you know that your videos got me to download Smite. keep up the good content. I usually don't write comments but you make my favorit videos. On which servers are you N.A.? Love Akis
+Fuoleo Thanks my man! Glad you are on board :) Expect more entertainment, of course! That's what this is about, mainly! These are interesting topics to discuss - no one has all the answers. I won't pretend to, but the most interesting discussions take place when people voice their opinions with respect and interest in hearing/discussing with others!
So when Hi-rez releases and OP god, they are like rough diamonds. And the community will spend a lot of time on the newly released god and this will help Hi-rez polish it into a beautiful diamond.
Counter argument: I've been around since beta but have quit smite for the past month and onward mostly because of the balance situation related to a handful of gods and Hi-Rez's sluggish pace about correcting balance issues. Focused Example: Ah Puch's 1 did a 40% slow at level 1. This was ridiculously powerful so early in the game. In fact, Kukulkan, maybe when he was AO Kuang, previously had a similar slow on his 1 that was later nerfed to a scaling slow by skill level. It was obvious to me and others that Ah Puch's one required the same treatment as it was nearly the same situation. Ah Puch was released 4/28/2015. Changing his 1 to a scaling slow was implemented 2/2/16, more than 9 months later, after a series of other assorted nerfs. The fact that it has been several patches and Amaterasu has yet to receive the nerfs she requires is one of the many factors that has led me to lose my patience for this overpowered release -> slow to correct balancing cycle. A chime on her ult, reduced healing by 5 per tick & heavenly reflection reduction of 40/80 of 210/500? Stop dancing around the edges, DO SOMETHING ABOUT HER 25% TEAMWIDE MOVEMENT SPEED BUFF. She has one of the longest dashes in the game already, she doesn't need that plus a MS aura of that magnitude. While you're at it, take a good look at the general design choice of offering a boatload of ability damage with very little scaling. These are just a few examples. I'm not going to even get into Sol and Ravana but I'm aware. I've taken a Smite hiatus be because of this OP release then slow to correct pattern. So, yes, you can win people back, but you can also alienate your player base as well. Additionally, I'd like to take issue with the editorial comment, point #2 of 5, that you don't want balanced gods on release because you want community feedback. This is a specious argument. Basically, you are advocating something sub-optimal for the purpose of having people tell you it's sub-optimal. This is not unlike advocating obviously bad behavior to encourage interaction and communication. "Should we be good neighbors and not have our dog shit on our neighbor's lawn? No! Having our dog defecate on our neighbor's lawn encourages interaction and feedback we wouldn't have had if we had chose to put our best foot forward. In the end, we’ll know our neighbors better for this interaction." Except that your neighbors will resent you for it and with good reason. This argument is ridiculous. We can still provide feedback, communicate, and interact as a community without having obviously imbalanced gods. Feedback is not inherently valuable, especially when the result of the feedback was obvious to all parties to begin with. You could go out in public in blackface and get a ton of feedback about how it’s super inappropriate/racisct/etc or you could just know it beforehand and not act like an idiot. Getting that obvious feedback has no value because you’ve learned nothing you didn’t already know. TLDR: 1. Though OP gods may create (1) hype & are (2) fun to play and this may bring in and bring back players, they also alienate other players who play Smite expecting a level playing field. If the white side in Chess got an extra queen, some extra people might play because it would be fun to be white, but more might leave because it’s not fun or fair to be on the other side and the game as a whole is no longer balanced. 2. Generating obvious feedback has no value.
I like the points you've made and while I play SMITE a little different I get what you mean, like you said it always sucks to be on the opposing team but it gets everyone exited for the new gods, weather playing as them or celebrateing killing them (I got into SMITE because I like Egyptian lore so I only play Egyptian gods)
My first penta was with release Nox. It's my only penta actually. Or do I have 2 now? I actually found her somewhat fun to play, but it was mostly because I love her character. And she is my favorite god outside of Smite too. Her new kit though is way better and more fun. And people don't think I'm weird for picking her now.
I totally agree with you. I remember when cabraken came out I loved playing him but my friend told me he was bad. I think twice and he was right . Some time later he got some buffs and fixes and soon enough the pros were playing him as jungle support and I think solo. I respect your opinion and I agree with you.
+Flawless Kratos There are a lot of great Gods with good damage. One of my favorites right now is Nox! She has a unique combo that isn't easy to hit, but when you do - her damage is TOP NOTCH!
+Flawless Kratos Another god to run for some sweet damage is Awilix. She doesn't seem to op but with the right build and some good momentum you can really wipe teams.
+Errol Bacon that's very true. Awilix is one of the best 1v1 Gods in the game and has one of the longest and most powerful self steroids as well with her ultimate. Good point!
Reminds me lots of Fighting games. As a rule DLC characters typically are either really good or have some unique mechanic that changes how the game is played when they're chosen. People don't wanna buy characters that are just ok.
+Zephlinfletcher I used to watch and play a lot of fighting games and I absolutely agree with that. There is an aspect to this that is a business being run by a company. You bring up a nice point here man, thanks!
Wish I could cite which video of his it was, but I heard Drybear comment on this exact thing back when he was on the Smite team and this echoes what he claimed--that HiRez intentionally releases gods on the op side with the intention of nerfing them into balance later. The main reason he gave was that it encourages people to play the god, quickly getting them the feedback and data analysis they need, compared to the lack of data under-powered gods or even relatively balanced gods provide. What I'm saying is, I think you're on to something :). Good video.
totally agree, the gods have to be op to get everyone's attention when they are first released and plus it's just fun to be playing an op god sometimes or even managing to outplay an op god
+connie lou True! Very fun in many respects and I think the Hype factor is important for Hirez keeping momentum about their God's and SMITE in general. Thanks for commenting, connie! Good to see you on here again!
I personally think that you're right. And it ain't that bad when you are on the other side of the OP god because if you get to beat him (or her) you feel better because you know that god isn't balanced and you got to beat it.
I've passively accepted that OP god releases have to happen for Smite to stay interesting. Although this is true, I never can be happy with an OP god release because I simply don't have the god pack to play the new god immediately. I could get it, but I already have bought every god except 7, and recolor skins don't sound enticing enough with the favor refund. Therefore, I can't join in the fun with the new god, only defend against it and learn the god by watching other people fight me with them which makes new patches a half and half experience for me. There is no way to fix this problem for players without the god pack (especially new players) other than taking out your wallet. Still, the hype and feedback factors still work in a way to where I still anticipate when that new god gets dropped to the normal favor price rather than double, because lets be honest, I would buy two gods with that favor rather than just the new one.
SO! Hype is not a reason, no one cares. Community feed back is also not a reason. You need to explain why its good for the game, not for the community or hi rez. Gods being played more also isn't good. She takes towers in 2 minutes, and everyone plays her. well, that not fun. Whats good about normal gods! They are fun, they are respected, and seeing how useless reasons are so important to you, people give POSITIVE feedback on how good and fair the god is. Op gods are not good, in any way. unless all gods are op. Don't try to sugarcoat op gods, they are bullshit. Op gods just make normal gods impossible to play. There are maybe 20 ''OP'' gods, and over 50 normal gods, i hope the 20 gods are important enough for that. Nox was never bad btw, she was fair but her abilities were boring, but now shes op and more normal gods are impossible to win with.
I'm a diamond new nox. played her once before the new kit. her new kit is such a strong team addition. even solo nox played passively can melt. so far I've gotten three players to literally stop playing their favorite gods and pick up nox using my builds, and they love it.
New Nox is fantastic. I agree. I think the reason she hasn't been played more often competitively is a result of her poor release and the fact that many players had written her off a long time ago. Smite has spent so much time restructuring her and making her relevant, which highlights the issues I'm bringing up in this video when gods have sub par or under powered releases and become irrelevant to the current meta they are released in. Nox has potential now but it's an uphill battle getting people to see it, and she suffers in terms of playability. If she had come out this strong, I believe much more of the community would have gotten on board with her in team comps.
+Raynday Gaming Oh definitely. if she's teamed up with an Athena or Kumbakarna, hell any player with a root, cripple, or stun she works so well. not to mention her ult can catch players that are trying to escape. not to mention alot of players don't even know that when she jumps into you, she goes wherever you go. you jump into a Thanatos before he ults. you go with him. Athena ults to the other side of the map to help a teammate or gank, you go with. plus if you have a teammate with a great escape just jump inside when your low health and if their randoms hope they realize you put your character on their life lol.
+911meltdown2 like with Raijin, he has that teleport. as a Nox I could dash into him before he teleports, pop out after the teleport and then help get a kill
+911meltdown2 Yes, I am well aware of this. If you see my Nox Combo Tips video on my channel or if you look that up in youtube, you will find I cover these tactics for her. She has some great utility and can be deadly in the right team comps and if supported.
+Raynday Gaming She's not played much competitively because there's no reason to. Janus does the same damage without having to hit a very difficult skillshot that can only affect 1 person. She is not played because the OP gods are overshadowing her and making her unviable. Nerf Janus and Isis damage and I guarantee you that you'll see more Nox.
I'm still showing this video to friends whenever they say HiRez doesn't know how to do their jobs for making op gods. Specifically for Yemoja, Hiem, and Mulan.
1.No Bellona was the most OP.She couldn't take towers in 2 minutes. But she could get a quadra before 0:00 on the clock 2.Yeah you can do.If I remember right you can still do it as of 2/21/2016 3.So you would want to see the same roughly 15-20 gods every single game as picks and bans?I would much rather see 60-all of them being played in some form rather the same old 20 gods in picks and bans...it gets boring 4.New players getting in to the "pro scene" no and just no.Being "pro" or "great" isn't about picking 1 single god and having fun.To truly be great and "pro" you have to practice and practice...did I mention practice? You also have to have a(n) role(s) you can play well and a good god pool to go along with that.It isn't about having fun and shit it's hard work and not everyone can do it. 5.Speaking of gods that don't get played. Why don't you say the same about Bakasura or AMC or any of the other gods that barely get played?Oh wait it only counts for new gods doesn't it?... 6.Okay I will somewhat agree with you on this.If I see a god do bad at the start I may keep thinking of them as bad but for people that are more into the game they can get over that and see what they can really do. 7.Yeah it's "fun" to lose to someone who is playing something that takes no skill to play.No it isn't fun to play a OP god cause I want to win cause I was BETTER then my enemy not cause my god is braindead easy.I would rather lose a hard fought battle of skill then win a stupidly easy game with a broken god.I also honestly feel bad for you that you would rather win with a broken god then with skill. :/
I am the same way I love playing under powered or less played gods because I feel like my skill alone is what wins my games and not just me using an overpowered god.
You forgot the fact that releasing OP gods provides more profit to HiRez. When they release a new god that is obviously overpowered and is easy to play (Sol, for example) people will go and buy it inmediately, because most of the community loves to play broken and easy gods, it's like the perfect combo. The same happens if you get destroyed by the new god or if this new god in your team or in the enemy team gets a 20/0 or 70k dmg at the end of the match, you as a player will say "I want to try that new god". This way overpowered gods gives HiRez more money than an underpowered one in release. At the end, the main reason of all of this is how much money HiRez can earn, not "user experience" at all.
Absolutely loved the video, just 2 quick points I agree with almost all of your points but I don't think thefact that it took so long for nox and ravana to become viable is to do with bad first impressions from players. The reason it took so long for them to come into the meta was nothing to do with bad first impressions. Nox is finally in the meta because her kit is very strong with the beads nerf. Ravana has finally got a kit that functions and is very OP which is why he's seeing more play. In my eyes that has nothing to do with people having bad first impressions of them. Once the god is in the meta they get a lot more light shined on them Another minor thing was the idea that you get less community feedback if a god is underpowered on release. I think the problem of not getting enough feedback is far more apparent in gods that are balanced on release (at least "balanced" to an extent). A prime example of this is chiron on release. He was not seen as ridiculously OP on his release just above the focal point of balance. Therefore he was generally ignored on release compared to examples such as sol and ravana. Meaning it is taking far longer for his numbers to be tweaked correctly. If he had been more OP or more underpowered he would definitely have seen a change by now. Just to back the point up I would say that the amount of posts on reddit about ravana being underpowered on release as they were just as numerous as those about sol being OP. HiRez were getting an amazing amount of feedback from people about how to improve his kit, he was very far from ignored by the community. (the same applies to nox, you couldn't scroll down reddit for 2 seconds without seeing a post about how people wanted her kit improved) So I personally feel that the point about getting more community feedback applies to both OP and underpowered gods Great video, really got me thinking about this stuff :). Keep up the good work!!
Anyone else remember back in the day when Chang’e was a power house? I mean she still is in the right hands, but back then anyone could be a power house with her.
In my opinion what makes a god op/up more than anything is the player. I have seen very bad bakasuras, but I have seen great bakasuras, it depends on how good the player is. Baka is just a example, you can do that for any god, a op god only make more likely that you will win or lose a match, never is a determinante factor. Great video man.
+Canal GXZ bakasura is a great example of a god that can be either really bad or really good, but that is because he has no strong cc, OR devastating large ranged area damage, the best he has is a cone in front of him for some seconds, which is far more than enough for the best and far too little for a casual picking him for the first time. Now can you say the same applies for ravana nowadays, for example? He can either be really good, or good, or player level 15, matchmaker error. No two ways about it, there are gods that are simply OP in casual hands.
+Canal GXZ When I do a lot of teaching in Smite and one of the biggest things I hear are some gods are OP. I feel that gods are OP because I did something wrong, and that makes me strive to be a better player. When Sol was released I was mesmerized by how good she was. I played like one match of Sol, found her weaknesses and from that day forward I just play the god's weaknesses. A thing that a lot of new players from like the 1-10 account level range say that Anubis is OP. Now, at level 30s and the high competitive games, Anubis is one of the worst gods to pick. Anubis was OP to us at a low level because we didn't understand how to deal with him. As you get better at Smite you understand how to play the weaknesses of the team.
+Marcio Tadeu Honestly I've never really seen a scary ravana as a casual and I just recently started up and I always thought sol was weak while nox was scary and annoying because of her cc I tend to play squishier gods so someone having hard cc scares me more than anything else
Raynday Gaming o.O Fudge dude, that was fast! Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll go check it out. Oh, do you guys use any specific comms when you're playing with clan members?
+unritardatoqualsiasi Xing got a bit of a nerf, but most of our impressions (I'm speaking personally, now) don't change very easily. If they do, then I most likely didn't make a strong impression to start. The other thing that can help impressions adjust is a strong consensus from an authoritative body, such as the PRO scene. If a God goes out of favor professionally, opinions will trickle down to the casual scene relatively quickly in my experience.
Raynday Gaming well, in my case it took just a few games as him and more as other guardians since most other guardians now have more cc and damage than him (geb, ares and ymir for example)
Another thing as well. When a new god is released noone has ever play him/her. If an unexperienced player decides to pick up a new god he/she has a unfair disadvantage against other player that are playing gods that have been out for years. Therefore by making gods op and then nerf them people get used to them way easier and have an easier time learning what the god does. Unfortunately sometimes the god is just way too overpowered, like sol for example, and after her nerfs her playstyle is completely different. I think the latest 3 gods (Chiron, Amaterasu, Raijin) explain this very well. All "broken" when released but have since gotten some tuning but the playstyle is much the same (although Raijin hasn't recieved any adjustments yet I expect we will see some soon).
+Rein Elliot I expect next patch his damage from his #2 will come down, as well as probably his passive damage. I think fundamentally he will stay the same, and reward his high risk/high reward playstyle by keeping his damage on the higher end, but I think that he will be brought down. However, yes. I agree completely that the last 3 Gods have been exactly what this video is discussing and following the trend I think is important for Hirez to follow in order to make Gods that stick around and stay viable and fun. Great comment man!
Personally I'm fine with STRONG god releases, but stuff that looks stupidly broken on PAPER should not be released until they get some finer tuning. An example of a Strong god release is Chiron - he has a solid kit with a bunch of stuff and damage, but nothing that makes him near impossible to play against, and while he was still a top pick he wasn't an Auto - Win like some other gods were. Compare his release to say Bellona or Ravana's rework who were and still are top picks that can easily dominate the games they are in, with little to no counterplay available outside of "Collapse on them and hope the enemy doesn't show up". The other issue with OP god releases is that Hi-Rez tends to sit around and fiddle their thumbs when it comes around to nerfing the parts of their kit that are actually problematic, such as Bellona's Bludgeon doing so much damage or her ult being on a ridiculously low cooldown, instead they kept nerfing her 1 and 3. (Admittedly her 3 did need a nerf at the time, but I wouldn't say it was the worst part of her whole kit.) Then we have Raijin right now who is pretty much one-shotting other Mages Mid / Late game with his 2 alone when Hi-Rez Phish (or is it Fish) said he was designed NOT to be a Burst Mage due to the balance team thinking bigger numbers = better gods.
I loved your point about first impressions. For the latest League of Legends champ, Jhin, I immediately thought "he looks like a dumb gimmick champ with ripoff skills from existing champs..." and low and behold, I still don't wanna even bother with him.
Yes, but I've kinda gotten jaded with League. I've heard whispers that a goddess based on Su Daji might be in the works too, which leaves me feeling *very* excited (Ahri main, lol).
Great arguments minus the one at 9:50, "we make OP gods to have less trouble reworking them to make them playable" where in the broken thing about other gods (like Ratataskr) isn't fixed and instead other things are nerfed (which also takes resources) until they are considered low teir.
Hah! little confession is that I actually loved him on release. His up close fighting style was and still is very entertaining. I appreciate it brotha and glad you agree. Keep up the good content - nice to see you on here. All the best my man.
So I literally went through ever comment trying to find the song but all I find is Raynday replying with "its a secret." Is it for legal reasons or is it a custom track? Regardless its stuck in my head. Also great video!
I think it's fun to have a super close game. Not a bunch of tryhards that play Sol, Khepri, and Bellona or any hunter together. They almost never lose and it's fucking annoying. I HATE playing on the side of try hard too. It's no fun blowing people out because you're playing an op god.
The way you fight Sol is to surprise and burst her down. She doesn't have the best defenses, her long-ish cool downs, and her being a mage, she's gonna use her whole kit almost immediately, possibly even her 3. Since is takes a little bit to actually make her invincible, that's when you need to burst her down.
I would agree with this list if the changes that were made to the OP gods were made before they were allowed in ranked and not half a year (or more) after.
The thing is hi-rez doesn't necessarily get more time to make new conten just because they release an op god. It can take just as much time to make an op god balanced as an underpowered. Just look at Bellona xD
I think if they're going to make gods insanely op on release to sell the Godpack, then losses and deaths shouldn't be recorded in matches with a new god. It's bs when I lose 6 games in a row because some new god that came out today can tower dive and 3 shot me.
+Douche Nozzle Hey man, that is an interesting point! I tend to agree! I think that they are banned in ranked when they come out though for this very reason. Is this from a casual perspective?
It's a very interesting point of view, and I strongly agree on practicing the "devil's advocate" role every once in a while. This point of view let's you realize that Smite developers aren't making mistakes when releasing O.P. gods, it has a purpose, or multiple purposes.
+Level 0 Gamer Definitely playing Devil's Advocate here. Thanks for the comment as that really is the goal of this video. To make people think, bring up an interesting idea and garner discussion. So far, its worked!
i main nezha and afro, sorry but i enjoy using underpicked gods and destroying matches with them, i use Vamana and silvanus and i still have aways great matches and my win/lost ratio is:1.26, bro i realy didint like things that you said, but wanting or not you're rigth, meta and impression do matter, Nice vid bro, cheers from Brazil.
I also like playing gods who aren't played so often. My favorite Gods are Ne Zha and Ratatoskr tbh, I don't really like playing gods like Bellona, Amaterasu, Sol...
My mains are Ravana, Chaac and Osiris. Gods i never see anywhere except when they're on free rotation played by mastery 0's. And yes, Wrecking with underplayed characters > wrecking with op characters
Thumbs up if you would buy Floppy the noddle god
I would
don't need to buy him ultimate god pack you scrubs
OMFG YOU PLAY SMITE KA0S YOU'RE MY BAE
i still think Bellona is the WORST thing that ever happened to smite, this god makes me cry
I feel bad that I mastered her ;(
Dexter peterson i actually don't wanna play op gods... I don't want to rely on them because they will get nerfed. The only gods i played
A bunch on release where kephri and sylvanus. It always breaks my heart when they get nerfed. I have sylvanus 10 and still play him very often. But it was realy hard for me when they nerfed his passive.
+Stefan Huber nah you should consider yourself lucky for not playing against release Nemesis or SWK i cri evrytim
+stuffycow i dont remember release swk being that strong? however nem was pretty stupid
+Raynday Gaming Same here :D
+Raynday Gaming +Raynday Gaming OP gods actually drove me away as well. I don't want to be "that" guy who's picking the best god just to dominate the other team, because that's not very fair to them. It'd be like if we were playing little league football and you added Tom Brady to your roster, now that's not fair to the other team as they're just aren't inherently as good. I understand that you might like the rush of completely dominating the other team, but for me it completely undercuts my feeling of achievement to play a god like Sol as I feel that me playing Sol was the sole (eh eh) reason we won.
So since I'm not playing the OP god it means I'm forced to go 3-8 in my next game just because I picked a midline god like Odin or something, and that's really not fun for anyone.
this video is perfect. the music, the enthusiasm, the voice, the content... 10/10 would watch again. you have earned yourself a sub
+Helen Tempest-Roe Thanks so much! That means a lot - won't be the last one :)
1:58 WHAT ARE YOU? som kind of monster! O.o
I WOULD INSTA BUY A NOODLE GOD
EVERYONE! i state EVERYONE WOULD INSTABUY A NOODLE GOD
ffs people nowadays
+Alexander Wittrup I know right.Running around slapping people with wet noodles would be epic.
+ILYSNAF Church of the flying spagehetti monster. We still have a chance of a noodle god.
Whats his ult?
+Myles Alexander it is to spin around dealing 0 damage with all yhe noodles hitting people in theor faces and shooting noodles everywhere dealing 0 damage
+Alexander Wittrup poolseidon is a god that has a noodle. does that count?
I agree totally. I loved the production of this videos Ryan. Those short scenes and gimme dat as killed me. So happy to see your channel growing an now that you are back, I can't wait for more. You should do a top five abilities in the game.
Keep up the great work, you make a difference every time
+Andrew Wallace Great suggestion man! I appreciate the love. GIMME DAT ASS! Will keep up that work buddy, because it isn't work - it's what I love to do :)
I mean if Floppy was real I'd diamond that shit
Yeah
+Sevarate 1 month later and you cracked my ribs with this.....had me rollin' for a good 7 minutes
same
I think you made some excellent points. I recently sub to your channel and find your videos helpful and entertaing. keep it up dude!
Thanks bro!! Appreciate that man!
sure op gods are good for smite....bellona,zeus and nox making me rage quit is really fun....or getting one shoot without no possible reaction is wonderful...
Positioning is your friend
It is fun if you ar the one playing them lol
+Jody Boles is it really? im rayn praises competition in smite yet he likes the op god wtf is the competition in having a god way better than the otehrs
+Jack Wilson nox making you rage quite? have you started playing smite yesterday?
Anal Douche he already explain this in the video that it's just nice to feel like you are a lot tougher than you are normally and gives you that excitement when playing that God.
holy shit man, you have some awesome content. Just got into smite and i really appreciate your videos. Keep it up, channel will blow up :)
+Cam Wheels34 Appreciate that bro! Thanks for watching and saying that. Always a pleasure to hear. Hope you stick around the channel!
Also you give moba's too much credit, most characters come out OP because the company wants people to buy that god. They'll let them stick around in OP status for a few weeks before nerfing them, it's a typical league of legends tactic.
Yup, and that is the biggest negative of all.
+Regal Panda nope, not in dota.
ermm velkoz and jhin. Jhin is pretty balanced and velkoz was underpowered, So I do not think it is always deliberate.
+Regal Panda ... Ultimate god pack? Do you know someone who actually uses gems to buy guys?
+gruntmaster1 I do but honestly i think its more they are OP, people like em and buy skins for them, If u get to mastery 3 on a god while they are OP ull probably stick with them when they are balanced and buy skins and voice pack for them
Holy shit you're amazing. One of the most well thought out video's I've ever seen. Instant sub.
+Psyonicgaming Thank you man, this is a blast to read. Look forward to seeing you around the channel!
"Dont you just love to play an OP god and dominate everyone?"
No I dont, thats why I dont use hacks.
(beforeanyonegetsmadimnotsayingopgodsarelikehacksiwasjustusingahyperboletoshowafaultinthestatement)
(Iknowwhatyouresayingdudeialsodontliketoplayopgodsandipersonallydisshakdshkskaznnxdkkeoeoaoakcmmfmenetowpqmcn)
RaynDay you deserve a lot more subscribers.Keep up the good work.
+CHEE Is numba 1 Thank you my friend! Means a lot to have your support. Have a great day!
one should dominate due to being more experienced, possessing greater strategy, better builds, and superior gameplay. . . not because they have access to a broken kit.
+Ysmjurf Njord I agree. I never said that wasn't the case. There is no argument there.
Raynday Gaming
I was saying that as a general statement. Sometimes good players struggle against not so good players because of matchups (aka a low tier god vs a busted god).
Completely agree!
+Radek Pavlovčin That is an honorable thing to do man. Cheers!
Thanks :D
+Raynday Gaming the trump was too funny , ( no racismo)
+Radek Pavlovčin Loki was never OP and never will be
To say, there are SO MANY OP GODS that there are lots of counters like silence DESTROYS Loki. So "counters"
this was very good vid man. Subbed!
+Gogetatenks23 Thanks very much, friend. It's great to have you on the channel. Feel free to comment or ask any questions and I'll get back to you!
idk why so many people are complaining about Sol, either your taste in roles are very limited, or you just don't want to take the time to actually counter Sol. Most warriors counter Sol easily, or you can use a mage with a much bigger burst (Scylla for example). This video was great, and i can't wait for more to come.
Yeah come play Scylla against sol and get one-shoted at level 2, and not killing her 20% HP when you ult because she's immune.
+Soda_17 What? Scylla is a MUCH bigger bully compared to Sol. I'm not sure if you agree or disagree with me.
I always get first blood and/or win my lane as her, almost every time. the only trouble I have is going up against Zhong kui
great points man u just made me like this game even more
+poizun williams Now THAT is a great thing to hear. Extremely glad about that buddy and very happy that you found the video and enjoyed it.
Im mad i. Didnt get that god like though lol
Same with old Ravana. I personally didn't think either needed a kit change
+Olisifer lmao. I stopped playing smite, came back she had a new kit(she had been out for almost a month) I went 35-2 in a siege. Her current kit is really simple. If you think it's not you're just slow. Literally all you have to do is build high power then place your silence > root and watch them die. If for some reason they survive you can dash into them or ult them from a mile away
urgeddeer101 ok whatver u wanna think, but definitely has just as much depth as most of the mages in the game and thats comijg from someone who has 10 rX mages. and most of the depth comes from playing her lots and it doesnt seem like you have
***** thats just not true... he got a new ulti, his passive meant that his 1 wasnt useless and his heal got a big buff. Thats hardly just the passive
Good Advice Dude! Keep it up
+NoLifeGamer Thank you bro!
op gods destroy the fun, they aren't good at all for smite
EmmyAuditore
the ironic part is that you have hades as your profile picture
are you saing hades is op?
Yes
saying*
...u serious?
do you do your own art for your videos? I'm trying to figure out how to do it.
+OhHeyBoy “Jimmy” Nope, I work with an artist!
+Raynday Gaming I wish I could draw. I was an art student but I worked with clay, wire and wood. I wasn't strong with 2D work.
+OhHeyBoy “Jimmy” but hey man I bet you could make some dope word, clay, wire stuff. That ain't a usual talent or skill so be proud of that!
ok well seems like good reasons & makes sense so now im going to direct my rage at "why the fuck are they STILL broken!!!!
+michaelchipz Thank you sir! I'll definitely be covering him soon and will give this a try! Looking forward to that big baby being relevant again!
yha he moves faster than Amaterasu
+michaelchipz yeah faster than Serqet now by a lot - weird
Awesome video man appreciate the work you put in
+Ian Hoover Thank YOU for the support buddy
Does no one think Bastet is overpowered at all? I cannot stand fighting her. If you know how to combat her easily, please tell me.
bait a leap and cc lock her
+KiNG ZiGMASTER You just need to hard commit when you know her ult is on cool down. Don't fight her around level 5 because she has her ult and for Bastets this is the prime time for getting a lead. Bastet usually farms easy to kill gods i.e Ra or AMC. Bastet looks to kill people without jumps or high mobility because she wants you to be locked down by the cat slows.
+Errol Bacon Ok thanks for the tips.
You sir are awesome! keep it up
Appreciate it man!!
Amazing video bro. Couldn't agree more with you
+Raúl García Thank you my man! Glad you liked it!
+Raynday Gaming ok that's it I am subscribing lol
+Raynday Gaming Being watching some vids and I have really enjoyed them. Keep up the hard work
that rama :V
+guido marchessi GIMME DAT ASS!
xD
+Raynday Gaming i agree with your reasons , but i think the main reason for hirez is that they sell that god a lot more then if it was ballanced or weak. I myself have the godpack but there are people who buy gods with gems instead of favor . and i can imagine being pissed off when that god gets nerfed afterwards. but ingeneral i think hirez relases gods close to being ballanced
+brightdarkness in general I think they do a good job overall, as well. I think that's also a good point as its a business decision many times. Thanks for the comment man!
Dude you're awesome thank you for your videos
+austin stone My pleasure man, you are awesome for saying that. Thanks very much!
+Sam Tryon Thanks a lot SAM. Glad you agree. Appreciate the feedback and comment very much. Thanks bud!
This makes me so relieved there are so many gods I believe are broken but now I can play a game with out raging and getting mad at my team ty so much man :)
+James Garcia My pleasure man! Really glad this helped and gave you a different perspective. That's the whole point of the video - so it's a real compliment!
"Sol is the most OP god in my memory"
*flashbacks to Bellona release*
wat
Finally someone got it out there :D
I think you're completely right! first impressions are so important. I don't mind the bad nox impression when she was released tho :D More Nox for me
+MCgulliien Thanks Gull - I know you love your Nox. She's your baby!
I'm sorry about the delay in God releases, it is a big problem for you guys especially watching all of the PC guys getting it early!
congrats on bieng in the smite show bro :D
+bedo saad saad Thank you man!
huh, I always assumed that they made the new releases Op, so that when the inevitable rush of "NERF THEM" comes, the god ends up balanced.
I think that's an awareness they have actually
hey raynday I respect how you respond to your subs I for one say thanks
My pleasure man. It's an example of the culture here. I want everyone to know they are listened to, respected and that their ideas and opinions are worth a response - whether I agree with the them or not! Thank you for commenting . Each one makes all of my videos that much better!
Mr. Bean totally caught me off guard! Interesting take on new and OP Gods, especially the point about the hype. The hype is real, people. Although Chuck D told us not to believe the hype sooo there's that. Anyway, thanks for the vid and the Mr. Bean lawlz
+Tom Folsom LOL love mr.bean/johnny english haha. You are welcome bro!
I have the same thoughts its good to see people making vids like this
Hi, you had some really good points there seams valid to me. Just wanted you to let you know that your videos got me to download Smite. keep up the good content. I usually don't write comments but you make my favorit videos. On which servers are you N.A.? Love Akis
Yes, NA. That means a lot man. Really awesome story and it's great to see the impact. Love to play with you sometime! Thanks for the support man!
+Raynday Gaming unfortunately I play on the EU servers I'm german
+Akis-liam Pieper sheiza! Or however you say it, lol. Unlucky man.
Really good video. Point well made. Sent it to a couple of SMITE friends who constantly cry about OP gods.
Thanks buddy. I appreciate that and glad you enjoy the video! Many thanks
Anytime. Just been checking out your other SMITE content. You've got some good insights. Looking forward to hearing more from you.
You sir just earned another Subscriber... I hope you will entertain me some more :D
Hey I'm not hating on this four years late! This stuff just makes sense. Good job.
Glad to see you came through man!
Is there a place I can download just the image of Sol at 0:10 it looks so good and I love it.
Focused Example:
Ah Puch's 1 did a 40% slow at level 1.
In the end, we’ll know our neighbors better for this interaction."
Except that your neighbors will resent you for it and with good reason.
TLDR:
+The Horned King Haven't I seen you on Minx's channel. Nevermind your like on every video
I do love Nox. One of my top 5 favorite Gods :)
She is my main :)
The point you made about first impressions is some what true. Ravana was bad upon release but now is a constant first/second ban in any ranked games.
That Ravan ult in the beginning is the best part. Gimme dat!
+Jabs McTooFresh Gimme dat ASS!
I totally agree with you. I remember when cabraken came out I loved playing him but my friend told me he was bad. I think twice and he was right . Some time later he got some buffs and fixes and soon enough the pros were playing him as jungle support and I think solo. I respect your opinion and I agree with you.
I wish I could be as good as you :) BTW, what God would you recommend with good damage?
+Flawless Kratos There are a lot of great Gods with good damage. One of my favorites right now is Nox! She has a unique combo that isn't easy to hit, but when you do - her damage is TOP NOTCH!
+Raynday Gaming thanks :)
Good video.
Subbed!!!
+Epik Storm Thanks man! Awesome to have you on the channel!
totally agree, the gods have to be op to get everyone's attention when they are first released and plus it's just fun to be playing an op god sometimes or even managing to outplay an op god
+luis valdez I absolutely agree. You don't feel to bad if you lose, because you know the God is OP. AND, if you win - it's much more satisfying!
What do you think of amaterasu I think its weak or I can't use it xD
I still play nox sol and freya quite a lot and knowing how to play them very well and how match ups go I can get easily fed.
+Tylor armstrong I agree, those Gods can do extremely well right now. I am the same way! Thanks for the comment bud!
@2.51 what you were looking for is bad publicitiy is still publicity xD
ALSO you have new subscriber
+Connor Walton Thank you sir! That IS what I was looking for. Appreciate the sub, you rock man!
I'm still showing this video to friends whenever they say HiRez doesn't know how to do their jobs for making op gods. Specifically for Yemoja, Hiem, and Mulan.
Raynday make a Zhong Kui video man!, you explain gods really well.
+HELMUT S C H M I T Z Thanks for the suggestion! I'll write it down to include in some upcoming videos!
Ey, Raynday! I think we should do some ranked bro. im awful still at lvl 30 XD
+Schix definitely bro!
1.No Bellona was the most OP.She couldn't take towers in 2 minutes. But she could get a quadra before 0:00 on the clock
2.Yeah you can do.If I remember right you can still do it as of 2/21/2016
3.So you would want to see the same roughly 15-20 gods every single game as picks and bans?I would much rather see 60-all of them being played in some form rather the same old 20 gods in picks and bans...it gets boring
4.New players getting in to the "pro scene" no and just no.Being "pro" or "great" isn't about picking 1 single god and having fun.To truly be great and "pro" you have to practice and practice...did I mention practice?
Cryo Love Yeah I recently mastered Susano and he was so hard.I had to press Q twice to kill people.I don't know how I managed it.
What's the song used throughout the video? Sounds real nice
I'm glad someone made a video on this. Releasing op gods is fine, as long as they're nerfed and put in their place.
+Niveus Maxum I completely agree with this statement. Thanks for sharing that opinion!
+Erian Villarreal Great points, I agree with them....this is very true. Thanks for commenting!
Absolutely loved the video, just 2 quick points
I agree with almost all of your points but I don't think thefact that it took so long for nox and ravana to become viable is to do with bad first impressions from players. Once the god is in the meta they get a lot more light shined on them
Another minor thing was the idea that you get less community feedback if a god is underpowered on release. (the same applies to nox, you couldn't scroll down reddit for 2 seconds without seeing a post about how people wanted her kit improved)
So I personally feel that the point about getting more community feedback applies to both OP and underpowered gods
Great video, really got me thinking about this stuff :). Keep up the good work!!
Anyone else remember back in the day when Chang’e was a power house? I mean she still is in the right hands, but back then anyone could be a power house with her.
How long have you been playing, because Nemesis and Chaac on release (Guan Yu for nightmares.)
It's hard to move a god from the bad god region of my brain almost as hard as leaving the friend zone
+Kidx Inkx That damn friend zone...I feel you man.
Also the team comp. there are a shit ton of factors that play in a smite match/player
I agree with this sentiment a lot! Thanks for the support buddy!
So how does one go about joining Rainstorm?
Apply on smite! I read applications daily and so do my officers. Tell us why you want to join and a little about you and chances are you will be in!
Raynday Gaming o.O Fudge dude, that was fast! Anyways, thanks for the info, I'll go check it out. Oh, do you guys use any specific comms when you're playing with clan members?
What's the first god? I've never seen him before..
raijin
They are adding Raijin? I was waiting for this moment!
+Mileena from Outworld ye! :D
Impressions change pretty easily for me, that's why i think i'm about to lose every time someone in my team picks xing... I used to love him
+unritardatoqualsiasi Xing got a bit of a nerf, but most of our impressions (I'm speaking personally, now) don't change very easily.
(Admittedly her 3 did need a nerf at the time, but I wouldn't say it was the worst part of her whole kit.)
Then we have Raijin right now who is pretty much one-shotting other Mages Mid / Late game with his 2 alone when Hi-Rez Phish (or is it Fish) said he was designed NOT to be a Burst Mage due to the balance team thinking bigger numbers = better gods.
I loved your point about first impressions. For the latest League of Legends champ, Jhin, I immediately thought "he looks like a dumb gimmick champ with ripoff skills from existing champs..." and low and behold, I still don't wanna even bother with him.
I'm glad that made sense bud! Thanks for your comment and sharing that experience. Very cool example in real life. Do you play league and smite?!
Ratatoskr was my favorite OP god, he is more balanced now, but when it came out... oh boy!
+CseRedHide He was so crazy when he came out. Absolutely nuts! (see what I did there ;)
+Raynday Gaming I feel like I should respond to you in...
And I'm just sitting here waiting for Floppy, The Flappy Noodle God.
Ayy man, old Ravana wasn't that bad. :v) Seriously though, great video, I completely agree with you. :)
Hah! little confession is that I actually loved him on release. His up close fighting style was and still is very entertaining. I appreciate it brotha and glad you agree. Keep up the good content - nice to see you on here. All the best my man.
My two favorite Smite players in one place!!!? What is lyfe!!
+urgeddeer101 I agree it's more fun to have a super close game! Don't think I ever even mentioned that lol. Thanks for the comment!
+Raynday Gaming
The way you fight Sol is to surprise and burst her down. She doesn't have the best defenses, her long-ish cool downs, and her being a mage, she's gonna use her whole kit almost immediately, possibly even her 3. Since is takes a little bit to actually make her invincible, that's when you need to burst her down.
The only reason i think OP gods are good is that it makes ranked/league bans more dynamic.
Great video
I would agree with this list if the changes that were made to the OP gods were made before they were allowed in ranked and not half a year (or more) after.
Btw raynday you can actually use sol 3 to get out of Odin circle just so you know :)
yea and its bs
The thing is hi-rez doesn't necessarily get more time to make new conten just because they release an op god.
It can take just as much time to make an op god balanced as an underpowered. Just look at Bellona xD
I think if they're going to make gods insanely op on release to sell the Godpack, then losses and deaths shouldn't be recorded in matches with a new god. It's bs when I lose 6 games in a row because some new god that came out today can tower dive and 3 shot me.
+Douche Nozzle i honestly dont play smite when new god released, especially competitive.
+Djbjunior Barbosa hey I main afro too
My mains are Ravana, Chaac and Osiris. Gods i never see anywhere except when they're on free rotation played by mastery 0's. And yes, Wrecking with underplayed characters > wrecking with op characters
CursedDemon1707 Ravana was really OP one patch ago and osiris isn't OP but a counterpick for other warriors like Vamana who is really strong atm
+Mr. Maflon still i never see them played
