Lastly, being a former Police Officer, I have a lot of experience with Mec Gar magazines and I’ve NEVER had a problem with any them. I’ve been open carrying an Beretta 92 Inox for the past 10 years everyday. I have to say, it may be the finest mass produced semi-auto pistol ever made and these Mec-Gar 18 round magazines, make it damn near flawless. I carry 2 spare mags so 19+18+18. 55 rounds on my person is really good protection. I’ve recently put a couple of Langdon Tactical’s Springs in the gun and it’s so butter now. Thanks, Ernest! Super useful info. I the 18s are my favorite too, I was hoping they would get the stamp of approval. Gonna grab a few more before July 1st here in WA. Your 92s are my dream guns, I hope to own one someday soon!
I haven’t had many failures but the few I have had were using old GI magazines. So I took them and cleaned them and swapped out the springs, followers, spring retainers, and base plates. Let’s hope they perform better. I LOVE the GI finish though. They are so smooth and glossy.
I love the Mec~Gar 18 round magazines and the Beretta OEM 17 round magazines but the problem is finding replacement magazine springs is you ever need them. Replacement springs are only sold for the 15 round magazines as far as I know.
Got four of the parkerized 15 round mecgars for $18 (in mid 2021. Screaming deal!). I could not them pass up. They're admittedly pretty tough to load due to the finish but they seem absolutely impervious and with a loader assist it's really not that bad. So worth having an extra 60 rounds of capacity on a range day.
From my discovery, I purchased an Itallian 92FS and got a few GI mags, The mags would lock, but the round would slide over the top. If I held the magazine down to allow a round to chamber, it would double feed after the first round! The one Beretta mag I had gave me no issues. Might of just been me, but some mags will work, but some definitely dont
I bought new 20 round Beretta mag new and it causes my Elite LTT and 92A1 to jam non-stop. I left it loaded for a month and still the same issue. All other mags I have are excellent.

All these variations, especially the newer vertex variants make it a real pain in the ass to find aftermarket base plates, as I have now just discovered.
I know this video is a little old, but after watching it I realized you missed one magazine for the 92D which features a specialized groove that engages/disengages the magazine disconnect spring, which disables the firearm when the magazine is removed. Awesome video though, very informative.
So if you have that particular D Model Beretta, you have a pretty rare gun. They only made those for a few agencies, so that is clearly a police trade-in gun of some type. You can take that spring out of the gun and make it function like a standard 92 and use all the same magazines. Finding those special mag disconnect magazines is going to be very difficult.
Never hear ya talk about the M9A1-22lr. I know it's a plinker ...and not 9mm, but it's a great gun! I go to the range weekly and in 5 years I've never had a misfire due anything other than faulty ammo.
Hi. Thanks you this video. It's super helpful. Regarding your recommendation on the Mec-Gar magazines, you reviewed the 18 and 20 round capacity. I live in a 10-round state and I noticed that the Mec-Gars are significantly lower priced than others that are available now. Do you have any comments on their 10-round version or could I pretty much assume the quality would be consistent? Also, I see magazines labeled 92f; are these interchangeable with the 92fs ones? I have a 92fs in 9mm. Thanks for your help.
Mr. Langdon, do you recommend the wolf INS trigger return spring? Or just a regular 3-5 thousand rounds replacement regimen of the conventional return spring?
I have some factory Beretta 15 round with the European lower cut that are nickel plated, looking matte stainless. Most of mine are Beretta 17 round factory and a lot of Mec-gars of varying capacities. Even some Checkmate G.I. and have had no problems with any of these.
I wish we could get those rubber bottoms Beretta used to make. Drop those on concrete all day long and no issues. They have a magazine adapter plate that adds two rounds and is very sturdy.
I have a devil of a time loading my Beretta magazines. It’s not the spring tension which doesn’t offer that much resistance. It l’s like the cartridges jam up or there’s too much friction and I End up using two thumbs to force the cartridges in. It’s even difficult with a reloaded. I’ve seen a lot of Check Mate mags in the military but have avoided them in favor of the PB marked mags. Since you didn’t mention them can we assume they’re to be avoided? Thanks for the good content.
I did mention them, I just did not mention Check Mate specifically. The Check Mate tubes are not bad. It was a combination of the finish on those mags (which the Army required them to use) and the springs. The mags themselves are not bad.
Check Mate is a serious company. They made exactly what they had been asked for. Unfortunately the armies tend to prepare to win the last war, not the next one. Having had their fair share of landings and jungle warfare, US military specifications of the '80s dealt a lot with corrosion resistance, and much less with resistance to sand. That's why the suppliers used parkerized magazines. An economic way to give to a thin sheet of steel a perfect resistance to corrosion, but once in contact with sand...

Hey I'm not sure what model my beretta is. It seems to be 92fs. But i went to buy a 92fs mag and it doesnt fit. Its too big. It does not fit at all. Any idea why? Before I start buying 1 of every mag until i find the right one.. Not even the seller seems to know the model. Just says 92fs. But maybe the frame could be something else?? All my research says theres no difference across the lot. I have no idea
If it is a Beretta 92 "FS" they should fit. Is it a Beretta and what caliber is it, would be a good place to start? There is not a difference from about 1982 and forward when it comes to what magazines fit. So something is wrong there.
@@ernestlangdon3075 the receipt says "beretta 92 9mm" but it has the slide mounted decocker/safety combination. It was used condition and did not come with mag. For $250 i was ok with that. But something does seem off about it. Im new to beretta so i had to read all this and watch videos
I got the two factory Mags with my 92 and it’s a pain in the a** to load all of it because it’s super stiff and hard. I don’t know what to get to avoid this ??
My beretta 92 S works fine with oem 15 round and aftermarket 15 round mags with the worn oem recoil guide rod and 13# spring. With a wilson combat fluted guide rod and wc recoil spring the last round has intermittent failure to feed in the non oem mags. Anyone have any idea on what might be causing this. I ended up putting the worn oem recoil guide rod back into it and it works flawlessly again? With the non oem 1981 vintage mags there and wc fluted guide rod and spring there are no failures, just with the newer beretta mag and a other brand mag?
Are they factory 10 rounders? While shooting or when you are just working with the gun dry? A lot of people will ride the slide stop when shooting and cause the slide to not lock back on the last shot. Shoot the gun left hand only and see if they work. If it does lock back, your hand or thumb is causing the issues.
I've got 3 factory 10 rounders that intermittently do the same thing. The follower binds up on the sides of the mag and won't allow it to return high enough to push the slide lock up. I've tried knocking down some of the edges on the top edge of the skirt of the follower, hoping this helps. Maybe they will work smoother with more use. Left handed shooter here so no inadvertent slide lock interference. Wish I didn't live in commie jersey and I could just get some 18rd mec-gar mags.
@@flatlandersj I'm in nj too it sucks I can't convince my wife to move to Texas like my mom did 5 years ago.. I have one mag the follower isn't strong enough to hit the catch. It just feels like the spring is weak.
The Mec-Gar 20 shot magazines are all what you want from a magazine. Have seen a statement that the Beretta magazines are made by Mec-Gar, so no wonder they fit so well. Another thing about US weapons policy is that nothing will be exported by dealers. Even if its a spring or a sight blade, or even a tool, its a no go and you have to find a local dealer abroad who of course don´t have that part on their list and on stock. In other words nothing from Langdon can be ordered from abroad, and thats a little frustrating!
my biggest question is, why are the production mags only 15 rounds, when you can buy flush fit 18 round mags. especially for a combat firearm, wouldn't you want the pistol to have as many rounds as possible. I have 1 20 round mag, and h actually carry it with that mag. to me, it's just weird
P.S. it's Langdon's 14# Hammer Spring I put in my now nicely modded 92A1 in this Review here and it made it AWESOME! Can't imagine it getting better with his trigger bar and other stuff...th-cam.com/video/_c6KmngIBMA/w-d-xo.html
That switch was made about 30 years ago, I think, maybe only 25, but a long time ago. I would say yes, the plastic one is better for several reasons. Lighter and self-lubricating are the two most important off the top of my head.
@@ernestlangdon3075 awesome! Love my beretta shotgun I got from you guys. I always shyed away from the compact models cause I didnt wanna buy a bunch of new mags. Least now I can get some compact models and least the mags I have will fit in them. Won't have to go all out. Can just a get a few compact mags.
I just bought a 92x at a gun show today. I didn't notice the fact that it had those damned California 10 round magazines. Crap. Now I'm out more money to buy higher capacity magazines.
Sir: In my opinion- you should indicate if these magazines fit clones and name these models. Shooter are gravitating to the more economical pistol market and the name brand makers are not listening.
This Patriotic Veteran approves this mesg Gun deaths There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. The U.S. population is 324,059,091 as of June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.0000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death: • 65% of those deaths are by suicide, which would never be prevented by gun laws. • 15% are by law enforcement in the line of duty and justified. • 17% are through criminal activity, gang and drug related or mentally ill persons - better known as gun violence. • 3% are accidental discharge deaths. So technically, "gun violence" is not 30,000 annually, but drops to 5,100. Still too many? Now lets look at how those deaths spanned across the nation. • 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago • 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore • 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit • 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years) So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities. All 4 of those cities have strict gun laws, so it is not the lack of law that is the root cause. This basically leaves 3,825 for the entire rest of the nation, or about 75 deaths per state. That is an average because some States have much higher rates than others. For example, California had 1,169 and Alabama had 1. Now, who has the strictest gun laws by far? California, of course, but understand, it is not guns causing this. It is a crime rate spawned by the number of criminal persons residing in those cities and states. So if all cities and states are not created equal, then there must be something other than the tool causing the gun deaths. Are 5,100 deaths per year horrific? How about in comparison to other deaths? All death is sad and especially so when it is in the commission of a crime but that is the nature of crime. Robbery, death, rape, assault are all done by criminals. It is ludicrous to think that criminals will obey laws. That is why they are called criminals. But what about other deaths each year? • 40,000+ die from a drug overdose-THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT! • 36,000 people die per year from the flu, far exceeding the criminal gun deaths. • 34,000 people die per year in traffic fatalities(exceeding gun deaths even if you include suicide). Now it gets good: • 200,000+ people die each year (and growing) from preventable medical errors. You are safer walking in the worst areas of Chicago than you are when you are in a hospital! • 710,000 people die per year from heart disease. It’s time to stop the double cheeseburgers! So what is the point? If the liberal loons and the anti-gun movement focused their attention on heart disease, even a 10% decrease in cardiac deaths would save twice the number of lives annually of all gun-related deaths (including suicide, law enforcement, etc.). A 10% reduction in medical errors would be 66% of the total number of gun deaths or 4 times the number of criminal homicides ................ Simple, easily preventable 10% reductions! So you have to ask yourself, in the grand scheme of things, why the focus on guns? It's pretty simple: Taking away guns gives control to governments. The founders of this nation knew that regardless of the form of government, those in power may become corrupt and seek to rule as the British did by trying to disarm the populace of the colonies. It is not difficult to understand that a disarmed populace is a controlled populace. Thus, the second amendment was proudly and boldly included in the U.S. Constitution. It must be preserved at all costs. So the next time someone tries to tell you that gun control is about saving lives, look at these facts and remember these words from Noah Webster: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed." What ever happen to up hold the Oath of office to protect and up hold the CONSTITUTION of the USA....NOT MAKE YOUR OWN RULES/LAWS...

I have no idea.
Will a 15 round magazine fit a full size baretta 92x ?
If you are talking about standard 92FS 15-round magazines, yes, those will work in the Beretta 92X.
where you buy those mags online or gun store
would the 30 round magazine fit into a M9A4 ??
The Beretta made 30-round magazine for the 92? Yes, that one will.
Can you add a beretta plus 2 extension on the m9a1?
It depends on the magazine. The Plus 2 extension does not take the dimples out of the bottom of the magazine. So I don't think it will help you there.
Can the beretta 92 compact share mags with beretta 92x compact both in 10 rds
Yes, All the 92 compact mags are interchangeable.
Will the 92fs compact accept any 92 magazine?
Yes, it should take all the newer 92 mags, full size or compact.
quick question, will a m9 commercial accept a 92fs mag? thanks
Yes, it takes the same mags as all the other full size 92F, FS and M9 guns.
Hey I just picked up a my first beretta, a 92X centurion, I want to get the best carry trigger you offer, what should I get?
Please check out our website and FAQ page.
I know this video is a couple years old but can anyone confirm if 92a1 or 92FS mags work in the new M9A4?
Yes, the M9A4 uses the same magazines as the 92FS or the 92A1.
Will the 18 round fit into the 92g elite compact?
Yes, it will just extend from the bottom of the frame, but it will fit.
@@ernestlangdon3075 thanks for the input
@@ernestlangdon3075 Are the Mec Gar 18 rounders still produced?
Can't find them in stock, only the Taurus PT92 variants.
Do all the 92 series mags fit my 92x performance??
Yes all but the Compact.
Mec gar 15 round compact mag is awesome. Even better with a flat bottom.
So can both a 10 round mag and a 15 fit into a beretta 92fs? I’m curious
Yes, they both fit.
So I'm looking at a 92x 10+1 so this only means it comes with 10 round magazine's? Will it accept 15+ round magazine's?
Are the 92 fs mags 15rd and 17rd mags (spring) the same.
No, the springs are different.
I just bought four 10 rounders last week, not one lock the slide back when empty.
I remember the 70/80’s when we glued a thick piece of leather under the 1911 magazines... the same can be done on the beretta magazines, right?
I don't see any reason why not.
In other words nothing from Langdon can be ordered from abroad, and thats a little frustrating!
we need MORE close ups of the details you are mentioning. I go to the pawn shop and have no idea which are "fair game" or not.
Although informational, no close-ups makes this video 85% useless.
is there such a thing as a sand resistant magazine?
Yes, the M9A1 magazine is the original "Sand Mag"
So the compact mags fit a full size 92?
Nope
The mecgar magazines are also a lot less expensive than the beretta factory mags.
Indeed!
my biggest question is, why are the production mags only 15 rounds, when you can buy flush fit 18 round mags. especially for a combat firearm, wouldn't you want the pistol to have as many rounds as possible. I have 1 20 round mag, and h
actually carry it with that mag. to me, it's just weird
Good stuff!
Dear sir if you accept my request to show the firing pin mechanism of beretta 92 models.how its work with firingpin block or its lever
Good idea, I will add that to the video list.
My fav are the “sand” mags
why didn't Beretta want to make the 30 rounders?
they have on sale
Why choose Beretta's 15rd sand mag over their 17rd version as a combat mag?
Just because I have many years of experience with them and trust them more than the newer 17 round magazine.
I've found reasonable price 92 but its california compliant dose that effect the mag well or just the magazine im in a no limit state
Just the magazine. There is really no difference in the gun itself.
@@LangdonTactical ok thank you ive been beretta 92 fan since die hard
very helpful, thanks
you're welcome!
P.S. it's Langdon's 14# Hammer Spring I put in my now nicely modded 92A1 in this Review here and it made it AWESOME! Can't imagine it getting better with his trigger bar and other stuff...th-cam.com/video/_c6KmngIBMA/w-d-xo.html
Would have been great to see him all close-up
Take a shot every time you hear the word magazine
When and why did they switch the follower from metal to plastic?
Are the plastic followers better?
That switch was made about 30 years ago, I think, maybe only 25, but a long time ago. I would say yes, the plastic one is better for several reasons. Lighter and self-lubricating are the two most important off the top of my head.

Yet, NOTHING on the 92 SB Compact??
Can a 18 round mecgar mag fit in a compact? But just hang out and look ugly?
Yes, that is correct. They fit, they just hang out the bottom.
Crap. Now I'm out more money to buy higher capacity magazines.
just find a mag that fits they all are not interchangeable.
Great topic...
Sir: In my opinion- you should indicate if these magazines fit clones and name these models. Shooter are gravitating to the more economical pistol market and the name brand makers are not listening.

Gun deaths
There are 30,000 gun related deaths per year by firearms, and this number is not disputed. The U.S. population is 324,059,091 as of June 22, 2016. Do the math: 0.0000925% of the population dies from gun related actions each year. Statistically speaking, this is insignificant! What is never told, however, is a breakdown of those 30,000 deaths, to put them in perspective as compared to other causes of death:
• 65% of those deaths are by suicide, which would never be prevented by gun laws.
• 480 homicides (9.4%) were in Chicago
• 344 homicides (6.7%) were in Baltimore
• 333 homicides (6.5%) were in Detroit
• 119 homicides (2.3%) were in Washington D.C. (a 54% increase over prior years)
So basically, 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities.
Now it gets good:
• 200,000+ people die each year (and growing) from preventable medical errors.
It's pretty simple:
Taking away guns gives control to governments.
So the next time someone tries to tell you that gun control is about saving lives, look at these facts and remember these words from Noah Webster: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed."
What ever happen to up hold the Oath of office to protect and up hold the CONSTITUTION of the USA....NOT MAKE YOUR OWN RULES/LAWS...
pro mags are the best designed and built....germans built them....same dudes that built that reliable volkswagon beatle....then they built a mercedes, and a fast rode to drive them.
Do the old pre ban 15 round mags fit in newer models like the M9A3? Or do the magazines "bottom out" before seating?
