But in the end it is easy to be an armchair GM/Scout, it will take 3 years to really see how a player will turn out for a team's system.
Both will be exceptional talent and will be superstar. I think I prefer demidov for playoff time and is upward trajectory in the last 2 year. He seem had phenomenal work ethics.
Michov will score more points, but Demidov will impact the overall game more. Watching Demidov's KHL games the kid absolutely hounds the opponents for the puck like a dog going after a bone. Great to see a player with that much skill and talent seemingly putting as much effort as he possibly can into the defensive side of the game.
He will thrive under torts, torts is nothing compared to how they talk to each other over there, Michkov will be fine. Torts is good with young players and this will be no different.
Offensively, Michkov will definitely be scoring more goals than Demidov, but Demidov will have way more assists and might therefore be ahead on points. Defensively, I think Michkov could end up as an average player if all goes right, while Demidov could end up as a high-end player if he works on his skating. The effort level is already there with Demidov.

The comparisons so far are pointless until both players are in the NHL, and even then only after both have played for years in it. Additionally, Michkov was scoring KHL points in his 16-17 year old season. Versus Demidov getting his from this current season. And even then, he is playing on a stacked SKA roster over Michkov playing in Sochi. And for awareness, Michkov vs Bedard for 1st Overall was not an uncommon argument in the 2023 Draft. I did see Demidov vs Celebrini a few times but more often saw arguments about whether he was going to be the 2nd or 3rd OA. They'll both be good, but there's a wave of Anti-Michkov posts/trolling in comment sections on anything related to Michkov which is quite stupid tbh. Especially since I'm sure both will be buddies playing for Russia in international comps some day.

Both Will be great. One edge Demidov has is that he is much bigger then Michkov. That may not mean anything but It usually does for skilled players in the nhl. Size def helps when all other skill sets are equal.
Love Michkov. But I disagree re Demidov's defense not being a strong suit. If you watched his play this year in the KHL, you'd see a clear emphasis and improvement in his defensive game. It is indeed a strong suit now. He's also now about 6'1" around 200lbs and has been adding a physical element to his game. Has some nice hits and his takeaway numbers are decent. I think they'll both be great. The unknowns atm are will Michov's lack of size and clear deficiencies in defensive and neutral zone play limit his upside. And for Demidov, will his skating style not only translate to the NHL, but will it make him injury prone due to how extended his knees are in that 10-2 style. JMHO.

You can’t even really compare their Draft+1 because of the different circumstances. Demidov is with SKA who is much tougher on young players (this is also why he didn’t play khl his Draft year) While Michkov forced his way onto Sochi who is a bottom feeder who played him like 18 minutes a game. Right now Demidov has played 10 games with 8 points in the khl and has roughly the same points per game as Michkov had last year, but he’s doing it in 12 minutes a game. We’ll see how the season plays out but that is very impressive.

I've no idea how the "sniper" label is persisting for Michkov. Show me more than 2 goals that he scored from beyond the hash marks in 2023-24. There are about 2, that's it. He struggles with his shot overall
people always say defense is not someones strong suit when you literally have to be natural at defense to be at that level imo. they usually sacrifice defensive positioning for offensive positioning which is what forwards should be doing, other than centers and 2 way forwards who make it obvious they will be playing the defensive game.

Demidov playing in a lesser league at the same age is not a score for Demidov, it's a black mark against him when comparing him to Michkov. Also Michkov was benched and then loaned to Sochi, a bottom feeder team, because he refused to sign a contract extension with SKA. He then carried that team, which scores half as many goals as SKA, with 41 points in 47 games as an 18-19 year old.
@@LarryLevantine The reasons for Michkov's removal from SKA's main team/ loan to Sochi had nothing to do with him not wanting to renew, as he had 3 years remaining on his deal during that time, him informing SKA of his desire to break the contract would be a more logical explanation but even that is not the main reason for his loan to Sochi. If you tracked SKA over the past few seasons you'd know that Michkov was excluded because as with most 18/19 year old there were major holes in his game, he cheated a lot on ice, couldnt care less about the defense aspect of the game and before his first loan to Sochi where he began to show some of his assisting skill he played a very selfish brand of hockey. SKA despite their struggles and criticism over the 6-7 years is a team that wants to win and has a tendency to prefer vets over prospects for their KHL team. It's also very easy to put up points on a bottom feeder team, Sochi, that has no ambitions of playing winning hockey where he doesnt face any repercussion for cheating on ice (sometimes to the point that it looks ridiculous), gets PP1 time, and staying on ice 1-2 + minutes more than your expected ice time. As for the statement " Michkov was too good for the MHL as an 18 year old" this is true for both parties, Demidov was named MHL mvp in his first full season w/ SKA 1946 at 17/18. Demidov also made the KHL team ahead of Michkov last season as a limiter (12th/13th forward) off the back of a PPG KHL preseason before getting sent down because 6 minutes a game for a developing forward wasnt optimal. Sometimes I think people get caught up in the hype/stats rather than watching how each player affects the game and the context behind those stats.
Michkov is like the Ovi/Kaprizov and Demidov is the Kucherov/Panarin. Would rather have demidov, he will win you games come playoff time, he’s more complete.

@@LarryLevantine The reasons for Michkov's removal from SKA's main team/ loan to Sochi had nothing to do with him not wanting to renew, as he had 3 years remaining on his deal during that time, him informing SKA of his desire to break the contract would be a more logical explanation but even that is not the main reason for his loan to Sochi. If you tracked SKA over the past few seasons you'd know that Michkov was excluded because as with most 18/19 year old there were major holes in his game, he cheated a lot on ice, couldnt care less about the defense aspect of the game and before his first loan to Sochi where he began to show some of his assisting skill he played a very selfish brand of hockey. SKA despite their struggles and criticism over the 6-7 years is a team that wants to win and has a tendency to prefer vets over prospects for their KHL team. It's also very easy to put up points on a bottom feeder team, Sochi, that has no ambitions of playing winning hockey where he doesnt face any repercussion for cheating on ice (sometimes to the point that it looks ridiculous), gets PP1 time, and staying on ice 1-2 + minutes more than your expected ice time. As for the statement " Michkov was too good for the MHL as an 18 year old" this is true for both parties, Demidov was named MHL mvp in his first full season w/ SKA 1946 at 17/18. Demidov also made the KHL team ahead of Michkov last season as a limiter (12th/13th forward) off the back of a PPG KHL preseason before getting sent down because 6 minutes a game for a developing forward wasnt optimal. Sometimes I think people get caught up in the hype/stats rather than watching how each player affects the game and the context behind those stats.

The only reason they seem "close" is because of the overwhelming about of Habs fans deluding themselves into thinking Demidov is better than Michkov and spamming it all over the internet. Look at all of their achievements side by side and you'll see Michkov has outperformed Demidov at every single level and at younger ages. Michkov played more total KHL games against men in 2021 than Demidov has IN HIS LIFE. Demidov is going to be a great player but he's done nothing to prove he's on Michkov's level, let alone above it.
Looking at their achievements side by side, it only seems like Michkov has had better opportunities for reasons unrelated to performance. Same draft class, Demidov is gone first.

Sure they score a lot of goals in the regular season, what happens during the playoffs? They’re soft as baby shit. Celebrini was drafted like 3 spots ahead of Demidov and was the clear cut no 1 pick and every scout knows Bedard is better than Celebrini.

I had michkov rated as better because of his khl numbers but it's marginal at best. I watched both play a good bit but watched demidov more. They are completely different players but very close
