    I know older videos don't get their comments read but I'm adding this just in case someone needs it. My 5 year old grandson has been having extremely violent outburst, screaming, spitting, hitting. As well as high anxiety upon anyone leaving (even if it is to go into the other room). I did an A1C test on him, 5.6, 1/10th of a point from prediabetic. When the doctor was asked about it she shrugged and said nothing. His diet is being changed, neighbors and grandparents have been informed to stop the daily candy deliveries. His future physical and mental health are dependent on this change

    I would love to learn more about allergies, their causes and natural healing. It would be especially interesting if you elaborated on the links between leaky gut, substance deficiencies and spine misalignment and allergies, but also on all the other causes. Thank you! I really like your videos, very informative and eye-opening.
    With best regards, from Germany.

    thanks for the advise. I had a very scary experience yesterday. I don't know what caused it but the attack came on very fast. dizzy spells and I lost feeling in my arms and legs It was so bad I couldn't move my hands and was having a panic attack thinking I was dying. you recommended great food choices. this was a life changing experience and I had to drink a lot of water to regain feeling in my arms and make these dizzy spells stop. I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow. we often abuse our bodies with out realizing it till its way too late.

      @@nycgemini7222 I had this happen years ago after eating powdered eggs in Salmon patties. Numbness in extremeties, complete blindness in the upper part of my vision that moved to my central vision, weakness and I slept for 24 hours. I thought it was an allergic reaction or a silent migraine. But I wonder now if it was blood sugar. Happened an hour after I ate.
      I have been tested in the 3 hour glucose test and my blood sugars were within normal ranges, but I was climbing the walls! No way could I drive home. Hyper-reactive Hypoglycemia. Diagnosis by the symptoms not the numbers. Not everyone can live within the "normal" limits of blood sugar.

    I want to thank you for all your videos, especially those on hypoglycemia. My dietitian and physician have put me on 5 meals a day since 2011 with high proteins and I was tired of eating all the time. It created other digestive problems and it was also expensive and I needed a lot of time cooking. Now I am in ketosis state for 2 months and take my glucose and ketones everyday to see my progress. Everything is quite stable around 4.4 and 1.8. I can believe it. My appetite is now in control and I am satisfied with one meal a day. For someone who wasn't able to go 2 hours without thinking of eating, I feel like having a new life and getting young and free again! Thank you Dr Berg!

    This is really great. I tend to listen to what my body is telling me. Whenever I feel hypoglycemia "attack" I think to eat something like wheat bread. Most people tell you you should eat sugar. It always seemed like sugar just made it worse. Thanks for this. Its good to hear somebody confirm what I think my body is telling me.

    Dr. berg have been watching your videos over the past year and really appreciate them. I have been battling pre-diabetes and weight loss over this past year. I am now trying the keto diet and am removing the grains and carbs. But, something strange was happening at breakfast, my blood sugar numbers would jump up real fast and then down to 70-80's within 15 minutes. I just started keto and have learned this is normal, since my body is trying to readjust. You addressed this as hypoglycemia in this video, but what seems to me, to be missing is: even though the blood sugar dropped back down to normal range, that feeling like crap is a sign that the insulin is still high. Thus a crappy feeling for about 1-2 hrs. Could you address this insulin thing in more detail? Thanks for your videos, they are truly helping me regain my health. I am learning my own body and how it functions and it is empowering me to be in control of body.

    I would love to see a video on why it happens and how to deal with hypoglycemic attacks for those of us who are doing everything correctly. Every video I've watched on the subject only deals with the basics but not the exceptions. What about those of us who don't eat sugar, don't eat hidden carbs, don't have diabetes and eat less than 20 carbs/day doing Keto for last 2 months and only get hypoglycemic attacks when trying to fast for OMAD? I've been doing 2 meals a day on keto for at least a couple of months and wish I could graduate to doing an occasional OMAD or 36-hour fast so I can trigger autophagy. But the 2 times I tried OMAD, after about 21 or 22 hours of fasting, I had the attack. The first one was very scary! The second one was tonight and I caught it before I felt like I would faint and I had a tsp of honey. Then about 30 minutes later I made and picked at a big salad with spinach, kale, olive oil/ACV, cheese and ham and nuts for the next 2 hours (I couldn't eat at first and had to force it slowly). I saw your video on eating 10 cups of salad a day (I am at 200) and have been doing that ever since so i hope I am getting enough potassium. I'll try the berberine. I do eat eggs and bacon for breakfast every day and love it! I exercise, walking with occasional jogging about 2 miles/day 5-days a week and also I do about 8-16 flights of stairs/day 3 days a week along with pushups and jumping jacks. every other day.

      Omg this just happened to me yesterday! I’ve been on STRICT keto for about a week along with berberine (horrible junk food diet prior) and I skipped breakfast yesterday but around 2pm I started to feel weak shaky lightheaded scared anxious pretty much like I was about to faint or die! it was super scary. I checked my blood sugar and it read 29! I panicked and drank a sprite and tried to eat anything quickly in sight 😢 I never had problems with this before! I’m non diabetec I didn’t know this could happen to me

    I firstly would like to thank you for your videos. I found them 5 days ago. I have been on a high saturated fat diet, low carbs, no junk, high protein, no additional sugar or sweeteners for 5 days. I was doing the kale shake, now trying to do have twice a day where I can. I can feel my body adjusting, cravings are not there at the moment. Your videos are very eye opening and thought provoking.
    How about a video on how people with chronic mental illness, like schizophrenia, post menopause/post 50 years, can improve their bodies, have clearer mental state and on a low budget.

    More videos on reactive hypoglycemia please! There is so much conflicting information on TH-cam and the web. My good friend suffers daily from this problem, and his doctors saw a growth on his pancreas but it was too small to remove (5mm). They think it's insulinoma but nobody can confirm it (very strange). What are some key nutritional and dietary needs to help fix the condition. And why do the doctors, oncologists, endocrinologist all test him while fasted and say he's fine? Then he goes and has lunch and has major blood sugar drops later and has to drink juice to feel better. It's a vicious cycle that seems neverending. You are a hero Dr. Berg! Thanks for all your work.

    Well there is one good use for sugar and that is when your blood sugar dips dangerously low and you have to bring it back up to normal very quickly, when your blood sugar drops so low that you start loosing muscle control and blacking out a teaspoon of honey can save your life. I have lived on a low carb diet for years but will reach for something sweet when I start to crash, feeling drunk, profuse sweating and shaking hands are all a good sign that you are about to bottom out. This is a very misunderstood condition especially if you have the reactive variety, doctors could not tell what was wrong with me for years and I did not know what it was until I was 28 years old and it nearly killed me at work. If you have to emergency correct your blood sugar with simple carbs you MUST eat some real food with protein and fats or you are likely to bottom out again.
    Wish this video was around 32 years ago when I started having symptoms.

      @Marie-gm9ql 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same as you I only know I have it for 1 month, I am 28 years old now. shaking hands, sweating, dizzy and not being able to see well means I'm going down....This entire sugar thing is so difficult to manage. I bought a blood glucose meter, hopefully that will make things easier.

    • @Kachok80
      @Kachok80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you the reactive variety or do you have standard variety of hypoglycemia? Does your blood sugar stay a little low all the time or does it just seem to plummet out of nowhere. If you are the reactive variety I can give you some pointers seeing as I have lived with it for so long.

    • @Marie-gm9ql
      @Marie-gm9ql 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enigma Cipher
      I'm not sure yet, I'm getting a meter so I can check my bloodsugar level atleast every hour for few days and then I will know for sure. I think I have reactive variety, it goes down within the hour then I begin sweating and shaking I hate it. Tried eating egg for breakfast with some nuts and cheese but it keeps my body only happy for 1 hour then it drops again. But sometimes my bloodsugar drops after eating especially chinese food.

    • @Kachok80
      @Kachok80 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah avoid Chinese food the MSG will throw you off every time, and you might want to avoid most other packaged foods for that same reason, there are a bunch of different names they can hide MSG under.
      General rules for reactive hypoglycemia
      Avoid sugar except in case of emergency, more sugar means more insulin making you more volatile.
      Reduce your total carb intake. Learn the glycemic index to see which carbs are best (lower number is better)
      Limit coffee and alcohol consumption
      Always keep an emergency snack on you wherever you go.
      Get plenty of fiber in your diet, it helps buffer carbohydrates.
      Drink plenty of water, always seems to help.
      Exercise, yeah I know that does not sound good when your blood sugar is all over the place but it helps, just don't overdo it.
      Avoid all processed and fast foods, if it comes in a package skip it and if it comes in a McDonalds wrapper run away as fast as you can. The chemicals in these foods can cause a sever reaction. The sugar crash that almost killed me was after eating a McDonalds burger. The more you can stick with quality whole foods the more stable you will be.
      Don't drink diet soda. If you are bad off might want to avoid any artificial sweetener though I have had a minimal reaction to stevia.
      If you can go keto and switch your body over to running on ketones instead of glucose you might want to try that. ketones don't stimulate insulin like sugars do. You might have to phase yourself into keto though aka not cut all carbs cold turkey because of your bodies insulin reaction to food, that is how I did it.
      If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

    I was prediabetic two years ago until I changed my diet to 85-90% carbs from whole foods. The truth is that carbs make symptoms of insulin resistance visible/noticeable, such as poor blood glucose control. They bring you the message. The cause however is primarily a bad diet rich in animal foods, fat, protein and refined/processed foods plus other lifestyle factors.
    Prediabetes can be reversed in a few days in most cases if you change to a diet based on fruit (great: Berries), starches (great: Legumes), LOTS of greens + vegetables and some nuts and seeds + start exercising. It may help to get your sodium intake down and get plenty of sleep.
    On the other hand, insulin resistance is known to increase on typical low carb diets...
    Now at ~700-800g of carbs per day my blood sugar is nice and stable all day long and insulin sensitivity is high (I lost ~70lbs which required quite a bit of lipolysis). Fasting blood glucose is down from almost 100mg/dl to 60-70mg/dl. After a 10k run I can fast for 18 hours and do a 30k bike ride while still in a fasted state without problems. Good enough for me.

    I was looking at topics from 6 years ago, I just started keto with IF 2 weeks ago. I'm 70 and in ok health, I work a 40 hr week. The one issue I have to date is I'm hypoglycemic, and had in my mind been cheating and getting away with it (being a cookie/candy monster) guess not..! What got me into keto was some big hypo attacks. Any way I was following your guide lines and getting into salads dressed the way you said and I started having hypo attacks right after brunch with-in the hour. So I started looking at what I was doing to eliminate what was keying me because I wasn't cheating, and by elimination it was the balsamic vinegar in olive oil. So I lost the balsamic and am doing much better. I guess my pancreas is so sensitive right now, anything even hinting of sweet and it goes off. So that's to date my glitch in the road Thanks for all you do.

    My son struggles with this, and I have tried to mitigate it with high protein breakfasts. One day his blood sugar crashed on the way to school after a large protein breakfast with eggs and a large smoothie with zero sugar. I was very concerned and confused as to why it was happening. I had him eat candy to see if it helped. It did, so we stopped at the grocery store and bought juice to bring his blood sugar up. It got him stable, and he went to school. He will have these crashes on occasion, and we cannot figure out what causes it. He does not eat candy or sweets. He mainly eats vegetables, protein and some grains. We do not understand this. By the way, he keeps his stress levels low and I support that.

      For me, too much protein will cause a high insulin spike followed by Hypoglycemia. Meat, by the way, causes a higher insulin spike than carbs. I would cut down on the protein and maybe a dd a bit of carbs. I know Dr. berg may not agree, but then a keto diet has never worked well for me.

    I have problems regulating my blood sugar and know that I need to eat less starchy, high glycemic carbs. The problem is, I don't feel well when I eat this way. I am hungry- even when I add plenty of healthy fats, and I have a lot of the same symptoms of hypoglycemia. I don't know how to eat. If I add a very small amount of starchy carbs like beans, it seems to help. I would love to see a video on this topic. Also, years ago when I tried to follow and Atkins type diet, my hair started falling out. Recently you mentioned another woman w/this issue and said it was because her liver could not handle all of the protein. Could you expound on this, please? Thanks so much!!

      Same here, stress can trigger a drop for me once in a while.
      Under stress, our bodies release glucose, cortisol, insulin, etc. So maybe... we are releasing too much insulin again compared to glucose OR maybe our body is releasing the insulin but our liver isnt releasing enough glucose under stress. (Insulin allows glucose to be used causing blood sugar to drop, sometimes too much)

      those with LOW cortisol function when under stress, the adrenals can't manage blood sugar and cortisol output b/c we need cortisol to manage BG. low adrenal function (everyone always assumes high cortisol is the only problem) means low blood sugar too. your adrenals are probably exhausted like mine and you can't handle stress physiologically.

    have you ever heard of transient hypoglycemia? I'm having the symptoms of hypoglycemia, but my blood tests and glucose tolerance test are normal. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia 5 years ago. my symptoms have lessened over the years. however, I recently changed my diet drastically (light paleo). That is when my hypoglycemic symptoms became severe and now happen daily unless I consume beans at least twice a day. I've been seeing my doctor, been to the ER, and had another glucose tolerance test. all tests came back normal, but my symptoms are still the same as 5 years ago when I was initially diagnosed with hypoglycemia. thank you.

    Maybe there wouldn't be enough people interested in this, but I'd like to know how to incorporate that much salad into my dysphagia diet. I had to stop eating salads because of how difficult it is with a swallowing disorder, and mine is mainly with thin liquids, which is what salads become during mastication. By process of elimination over the years, the only thing I've been able to have for breakfast anymore is pancakes. I make my own batter out of gluten-free flours, and use organic ingredients, but I also do understand what you're saying about the energy crash soon after, and I do get such a thing. I've tried scrambled eggs, but they are too difficult, also. Meat must be pureed, and it's all a lot of work since I also have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia (as well as other things), and have had those long before the swallowing problem when I was able to eat lots of salads. I also think 7 cups of veggies would be way too laxative for my sensitive system. I've found that 3 or 4 servings keeps me at just the right level of regularity, but again it's a lot of work to puree all that. They tell those of us with this disorder to drink juices instead of water in order to get more calories and nutrients, so it's very difficult to balance all this.

    Great information. Just one point I'd like to clarify. Berberine is not an herb from China. It is a chemical found in a number of different herbs, some of these being coptis (which does come from China), Oregon grape root, barberry, Amur cork tree (an invasive plant on the East Coast), and goldenseal (endangered, so maybe not a great choice for that). It is yellow in color and bitter in taste.

    I have exercise induced hypoglycemia.Start out running blood sugar 130-140.45 minutes later blood sugar drops to 40-50!Piece of peppermint candy and or a sunsweet prune.Breakfast always includes protein if any carbs it's maybe 1or 2 ounces of banana,strawberries eaten with a lot of protein.Now eat 3000-3500 calories just to barely maintain current weight.I do count macros currently at,47%fat,24%protein,29% good carbs.Only way I manage lows is by not doing one long hard intense exercise session,but do 3 separate sessions well before bedtime and constantly eat eat eat all day long.Everytime I do one 5 mile run it drops from 130-140 to 40-50 all within 45 minutes of running.So I have to stop test eat then test again and then I might be able to continue my run.

      Thanks for response,but think I've found the answer.Seems my body prefers fat as fuel in greater amounts than it does carbs.More like 60%fat/25%protein/15% complex carbs.Blood sugar testing before during and after has revealed it stays stable with this approach.For instance yesterday blood test prior to exercise was 110 after meal of high fat with protien,carbs in smaller amounts after 90 minutes of running it had only dropped to 80!Which isn't low for me.It was going as low as 50 from a post meal blood carb loaded 140 to 50 within 20 minutes of running?!!Really frightening.Also stopped reaching for the glucose tablets because that apparently starts a vicious cycle of spiking and crashing.Was eating some protein/fat with a greater amount of carb and it worked and kept blood sugar stable until I started doing intense hard long workouts.Now I know to eat higher fat in relation the amount of protein/complex carbs.

    Dear Dr Berg, what I would like you to concentrate on is the psychological aspects of hypoglycaemia. By that I mean to forensically dissect the context of behaviours.
    I know people who have been psychiatrically diagnosed with allsorts of mental illnesses when they’ve got hypoglycaemia. I am presently on a greens only diet nothing else that’s in water. The other issue is there is debate amongst your peers - who are on your side. There are great debates to be had about whether fat from animals is productive or not in healing. There is one eminent surgeon in America, quite a well-known guys, name I forget now suggests that NO oil is essential for recovery from all sorts of diseases. This has to do with something around the linings of the veins where there is methane oxide, this is compromised when we eat oils. Not just the bad oils the good oils too. I love your videos one of the most important things is they are simple in explaining complex issues. I’m presently on the greens only diet, and it’s radically affected all sorts of previously difficult challenges. I think the most compelling issue for me is around behaviour and hypo and hyper Glycaemia.
    I think the behaviour that we experience during one of these encounters is a reflection of our mood at the moment and some ingrained trauma too - I’m trying to find information on this.

    Thank you, I've been learning lots from your videos.
    I've been using your potassium recommendations for about 6 weeks and lessened the simple sugar intake. I've noticed positive differences in my sleeping, concentration, energy levels(especially in the afternoon) and sugar cravings. There have been a number of other improvements.
    Two things though. 1. How about a potassium high breakfast like oatmeal(400mg/cup), bananas(400mg) and milk. Thats 800mg potasium in a serving. Throw in a cupple of eggs for protein. Or is the sugar derived from those foods really detrimental?
    2. I'd like to hear more about intermittent fasting, specifically how long to fast for fat loss and HGH production and the ratio of proteins/carbs/fats to eat to gain muscle. I find it tough to consume the 1gram per pound of bodyweight for muscle growth in only 2 or 3 meals.
    Thanks Dr. Berg, I appreciate all your hard work.

People think it's going to do one process and they don't realize shutting off the Pituitary gland shut off the ability for the tyroid to work, to make bone marrow, blood cells, that insuline is a hormone, your heart beat... I can go on and on with how dangerous it is but I don't touch people like you do.

    The funny thing is that if you want to cure low blood sugar is intermittent fasting so that you burn through the fat stored in liver and pancreas. I fasted for 10 days and when ever I experience low blood sugar I went for a walk .. my body tapped into the fat stored and rebalance it. I am diabetic and from Keto diet and fasting I stopped all meds. I know it’s contrary to what people normally react, but I solved my low blood sugar this way, by making my body less dependent on sugar from foods but to burn fat stored for it.

I was told to check my sugar a ton and I thought that I was fine since my sugar was never high but always low before I ate. Thinking a piece of candy would fix it never did. I've heard many things but yes cutting carbs will be making you feel this way. You are cold turkying the one source your brain uses the most of. Do you have your ratios right for this diet? 90% fats 5%carb/protein. That's the only way to truly do it. I'd give yourself at least 2-4 weeks before you start feeling normal.

    hello everyone. I'm 36 yrs old. About 4 yrs ago I decided to get healthy with diet and exercise. I started running and weight. And eventually started more down the path of bodybuilding. My body started changing I was very happy with my results. I always use to workout on an empty stomach or a very small snack. About a year ago started developing symptoms of being nauseated, lite headed and weakness to point I couldn't finish my usual hour to two hours workout. On Friday I did my normal leg workout on a mostly empty stomach. This was after a month long hyadaus from heavy lifting. Needless to say I barely made it out of the gym alive. Dry heaving in the parking lot and lite headed. This is very annoying and I love working out. And it has really put a cramp in my regular workout schedule. I've tried eating a decent meal beforehand as well with the same result. Has anyone had any of these symptoms and or tried Berberine with any results? And input and feedback would be much appreciated.
