Welcome back! This is a great example of why I so admire you, Linda -- not only are you a strong, capable woman running a traditionally-male business, but you're also not "too good" to get in there and do the "dirty work" needed! Good for you, Girlfriend!
Linda you are one lady that isn't afraid of hard work. Watched your cement video and you got in there working with the guys worked till you got the job done.I believe you can outwork some men.
You surely don't need a gym. After a full day of milling, you get another real workout. I really respect you and all your family for their tremendous work ethic.
YOU ARE THE KIND OF WOMAN THAT MAKES AMERICA GREAT. FOLLOWING IN THE FOOT STEPS OF ROSIE THE RIVITER BUT BEING THE BOSS IS MUCH BETTER. SMART AND STRONG AN EXAMPLE FOR AMERICA'S WOMEN. THIS IS NO SNOW FLAKE
Hi Linda, I am an old timer and I wonder where you get all the energy. I don't do to bad for an 80 year old. I have a small bottom of the line band mill . it takes energy to push the saw through a log. I admire your energy and wish I had more. Keep up the good videos and I cheer you on.
Much of that shoveling could be made easier by adding a hose to your dust collector that you could add a floor attachment and suck up all that sawdust. Still have to shovel the scraps but maybe half the time... Great vids. Love to see how wood is made useable.
Linda, job well done, your efficiency puts most men "in the dust", please keep up these excellent videos. P.S. to Mr.Sawmill, please take this hard working gal out to a nice dinner every now and then... :)
Thank you for the generous compliment. I'm just doing a job that needs doing & enjoying what I do. I Will definitely keep the videos coming as often as I can! Thanks for watching! Linda
I always seem to see you doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. You are one of the most hard working women I have ever seen. I love your videos and the team work of the whole family. Well done and please keep the videos coming.
I do admire your work ethic and your arms and back, no flab there. So good to see a family that works together like you folks do. I bet you sleep well at night after a liberal swabbing of Liniment, I suppose!
Linda, you seem very strong for your size. Reminds me of my sister who was similiar in build to you. She worked in the coal mines. As a matter of fact, she and another lady were the first women underground. they were celebrities of a sort back in the day!
This lady can put most men to shame. This level of work ethics are few and far between these days. She probably goes home to clean cook and wash too. It's what my granddad called working from can to can't. It's ppl like this that built this country. I salute you 👍
Now I know how the shop gets cleaned. That was rewarding to see albeit the video is a couple of years old. I've never seen a lady work so hard. I hope her sons built a sauna or jacuzzi for her to relax in.
Hey Linda, you are not scared of a bit of "hard yakka" (work in Australian) Think about making 3 trays (steel or timber) to put under the mill with forklift slots, at the end of the day you would lift them out (with the forklift) elevate them to bin height and scrape them out with the rake, it would save a lot of bending over, at the very lest a piece of 6x6 with a "bridle" that you tow out with the fork bringing the rubbish with it. But as this video is a few years old you may have done this already.
Some wheels on the bin would help you a lot, like a longer handle on the shovel. Avoiding to walk each time you want to throw of shovel in it is a good economy on your body and mind i think.
you need a small vacuum truck with a long suction hose on it to take care of that saw dust. how long did it take you to clean up the work area. I bet one thing no had to rock you to sleep after doing all that work. You made me tired just watching you. Thank for a very out standing video. got to get back to watching your videos. thanks again
Outstanding beautiful hardworking mom, doing men's jobs which is not regularly seen in America today!Have you thought about for yourself and family of wearing Full Military Gasmasks? When I melt Lead Wheel Weights I use Soviet Gas Mask which covers my entire head, other times when making my custom bullets I use a 3M Silicone mask with 2097 Pink Lead Filters. Sportsman guide often has bargains on Military Gas Masks and Filters one time I got a giant box of Filters which are usually universal will fit on Friend and Foe Military Masks alike, excellent for Saw dust etc. Just something to consider.
Dear Linda, Why don't you use the vork to separate áll the bigger parts from the sawdust, make an extension hose on the vacuum cleaner from the sawmill and vacuuming the dust with the vacuum cleaner? I think it will be easyier to do. And you can also clean the sawmill.... It's just a suggestion. Greetings from Holland
For me i prefer to segregate the saw dust from the scrap wood, anyway its a nice job done by Linda ,and preparation for Monday work i think, from the rocky mountains of northern Philippines 😍😊☺
The night cleanups is great for a retired person who can't put in an 8 hour day, maybe come by anytime from closing until morning as long as its clean for start up..
The straw and weed rake I understand. But I'm thinking that a giant dust bin trash would help cleanup. How about a small skid steer with a snow bucket to push everything into and drive it out to a larger burn bin?
I think you need a grinder or a shredder to grind the waste product to smaller size instead of stacking then cleaning, shredded woods can be handled easily and it can be sold as mulch in gardening.
I don't know if this will help but if you get a piece of PVC pipe that can go in your dust collector hose and clamp some small mesh chicken wire at the end you can vacuum all of the dust up and i won't suck large chunks. They even have dust collector accessories that are already built like that i believe if you want to spend the money for them. You will still have to rake and shovel the large stuff but i feel it would save a lot of time certainly dealing with that large amount of dust.
Adam .... There must be easier ways for Linda .... Surely .... Even a floor vacuum at various times would help a lot ..... www.google.com.au/search?q=dust+collection+systems+for+sawmills&rlz=1C1CHBF_enAU730AU730&oq=dust+collection+systems+for+sawmills&aqs=chrome..69i57.11256j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
They already have a dust collector for the mill and resaw. Even with a dust collector, waste still makes it on the floor. I have a dust collector for my table saw and planer yet it still gets saw dust here and there and needs sweeping. They just have to hook up a hose to a port and vacuum like normal with the dust collector. Thats why i recommended a piece of PVC pipe on a hose to suck dust
That is a whole lot of saw dust and wood debris for 1 full day of milling. I am glad to see you say that your dust collection system is 'adequate'. I hate to see what it would look like if your dust collection was considered 'poor'. LOL
Just one of the many contributing factors to my condition! My kids gave me a fitbit for Mother's Day and the device informed me that cleaning the mill floor gets my heart rate to a higher peak rate than most other activities! :) Fun little gadget. Thanks for watching! Linda
Linda I am a new subscriber and I'm really glad I found your channel. My wife and I enjoyed watching a few of your videos. I look forward to your next video.
Thank you for the positive feedback. I am glad you and your wife enjoy the videos. I have more than 40 hours into editing my next video, It's a really BIG video, but I hope to have it done real soon. Thanks for watching and subscribing! Linda
As you have a fixed installation have you considered a few deflectors and a low conveyor to move the dust into a receptacle automatically? If you do that daily I think it would pay to do.
Well, I asked one to record, and the rest had other work to do. I didn't mind, it gave me a chance to record another aspect of our business.. Thanks for watching! Linda
Hi. Love your vids for some reason. Thought I'd suggest a concrete rake for faster movement of scrap and dust. I use one for lots of things now. Beats a shovel hands down.
How about a trough in the floor with grating over it. You seep everything to the grating, the dust drops through and could be vacumned out and the bigger lumps stay on top. I know you would hav to manually pick the lumps up but at least they are separated from the dust ???
you're so lucky ... you get to do clean up all by yourself LOL. I see the dust collector hook up on the saw its amazing how much sawdust still ends up on the floor
The dust collector does its job well, but the sawdust on each board falls to the floor as it is moved through the stations. The debarker and turner make a mess of bark and the chainsaw and circle saw do their share, as well. Thanks for watching! Linda
Wow....!! It's easy to see why you're in such great physical condition. That after working that sawmill all day. I'll bet you have no trouble sleeping.
We have a firewood bussness and the saw chips we get off the processor is growing, its in bags, I was thinking of the composting part, are you folks doing that or someone else, would like to get information on it. Thanks Bob
Why do you not have a outlet fitted to the dust collection that has a sliding shutter with flexible Ducting you can use to clean the fine sawdust first then you would only be moving a small amount of timber. We used to also put a floor sweeper trap in the duct so that you can sweep floor to duct and lift the small trap door and it would be sucked up it the system.
Thank you for the compliment. There are plenty of hard working women out there, I am sure you will find the right one at the right time! I am glad you enjoy the videos. Thanks for watching! Linda
My comment: the husband cuts off the planks from the log, the wife separates them to be cut into smaller boards, the son separates the boards to various sizes to be stacked, WHY do not the husband and son help with the cleanup???
She said in a comment on another video: "We usually work together to clean the mill. Sometimes one person gets to do it alone. On one particular day, everyone else had other things to do, so I did it by myself and made a video for my viewers. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/ZfIO-HX-avc/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching! Linda" And that is this video. So there is your answer. :)
The guys had other work to do, so I CHOSE TO CLEAN BY MYSELF! Less dusty and a great chance for a video! And I enjoyed every minute of the exercise! 😁 Linda
The big piles you gotta just pick up where they are, moving it just to pick it up adds work..pick up put it in a wheelbarrow, sweep the residuals. ..you work so hard all day, you really need to work more efficient, ..i do like that you do clean up and don't just open the doors and power up leaf blowers..❤❤❤❤
Is that a snow shovel? I will have to buy one after many years in the southern states. Dunno iffn I ever used a plastic snow shovel. Is the plastic pretty sturdy and long lasting?
I'm not a big talker and really appreciate your feedback! I will do my best to add voice overs whenever I can. My theory about shovel size: Small shovel = Slow progress, Sizable shovel = Speedy progress. ;) Thanks for watching! Linda
I am really surprised you do not have a Pellet Machine to turn that saw dust into Wood Pellet Fuel which is sold for more then an a couple dollars per bag. Even if you are in an area that does not need wood heat in winter you could probably produce several truck loads worth a year and then transport it to somewhere that does to make extra profit from waste, its free money.
Thanks for the videos, very interesting. Wondered about that plastic shovel though, is there any explosion hazard from static igniting sawdust with that? Maybe the dust is damp enough to be safe? Well, stay safe and keep the faith. Thanks again.
Thank you for the feedback. The sawdust is very damp, coming from logs with about 80% moisture content, so no fire hazard. Thanks for your concern and thanks for watching! Blessings! Linda
How do you get the sawdust off the machines when I worked in the timber mill we had a hand Blower were used to blow the machines first and then clear up by the machines there were extractor pipes to take away sawdust that was on the floor sweep the sawdust into the extractors
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We have considered it, but found it isn't cost effective in our operation. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching! Linda
Kept thinking of the guy who joined the circus for a life of travel and adventure. When it was pointed out that the majority of his duties had to do with following elephants around with a broom and shovel and that he might consider changing careers his reply was: "What! And give up show business?"
GOOD ANSWER!!! Life is full of ups and downs. My motto: there is good and bad to everything in life; so I try to do the best with what I am given. Thanks for watching! Linda
Great job on the voiceover! That looked like a huge amount of bark and sawdust, how many logs would you have had to saw to generate all that waste? Keep up with the great videos!
Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback, as speaking is not my strong point. Some logs shed more bark than others, but this was probably about 10 or so logs worth. Thanks for watching! Linda
I'm a little confused, which isn't unusual for me. I saw you start out using a fork to separate chunks from the sawdust, but by the end of the video it all went in to the same bucket. And where were your helpers? They should be right in there helping too.
Chip the chunky waste into animal bedding. Give it away to anyone willing to haul it away. Just a suggestion. Try a leaf blower to quick clean the unit, it will save you much effort.
Awesome, we debated on keeping our first mill '93 LT40HDE after we converted it back to gas, but decided to sell it. Occasionally, it would be nice to have a second mill, but not 100% necessary in our application. Thanks for watching! Linda
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 2015, but extended support(incl security updates) won’t end until January 2020.This applies as long as you have Service Pack 1 installed. support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/15090/windows-7-install-service-pack-1-sp1
Please tell the viewers that the men working at the saw mill take turns doing the clean up as well... Or you should "FIRE THEM!!!!" Oh well..... glad to see you wearing breathing protection not sure if there is any disease related to saw dust as there is one related to stone cutting granite, marble etc....Please take care of your self as the viewers "all" are concern for you.....Great Job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely, we usually clean as a team or my hubby gets stuck with it while the rest of us put lumber on drying sticks. The guys had other work to do, so I CHOSE TO CLEAN BY MYSELF! Less dusty and a great chance for a video! And I enjoyed every minute of it! 😁
If you put a wire mesh over that bin you could separate the dust from the chunks with every scoop rather than double the scoops using the fork then the shovel.
That was something we tried, so we could save the dust for farmers. Another great idea that flopped, even with a shaker it didn’t work well. So back to our tried and true.
You Go Girl! Just think of all the money you save on gym memberships! Love the video- all aspects of your business are interesting to me! How long has your family been doing this and how did you get started? Thanks!
Thank you for your kind feedback! Yes, if I was offered a free gym membership, I would still keep on doing what I do. We began our business in 1993, so a little over 23 years ago. We were portable for 3 years and then moved to our first portion of the saw shed. We added on as the Lord provided. Thanks for watching! Linda
Computer problems on top of a busy life make it hard to find time for my fun hobby of editing videos. I will do my best to keep them coming as fast as possible. :) Thanks for watching! Linda
Hey good video but I have an Idea for you I see you have a vacuum collection system for the fines but If you can get your hands on and old mortar mixer them big round ones you could fabricate the drum with a 30 - 50 gallon drum just cut a few windows down the sides of the mixing drum add your screen and weld or bolt the 30-50 gallon drum to the mixer and make a tumbler screen and sift all that nice saw dust for better sales more people would want super clean sawdust. you can add a industrial electric motor or gas If you tip it up in the correct angle about 30` the chunks will fall out of the open end into a neat pile inside your big fuel oil can you used in this video and you can put a wheel barrel under the screen to catch all the dust. I hope this helps If you like I can draw up plans for you for Free...
My husband built a sifter a few years back, but it was so labor intensive that we soon gave up on running it. Thank you for the idea and thanks for watching!! Linda
What a great job!! People don’t realize how much work goes into sawing a log!
You are a very hard working girl!!
I am impressed!!!🤗
Welcome back! This is a great example of why I so admire you, Linda -- not only are you a strong, capable woman running a traditionally-male business, but you're also not "too good" to get in there and do the "dirty work" needed! Good for you, Girlfriend!
Thank you so much for the kind encouragement! And thanks for watching!! Linda
Are you going to cook supper tonight or do I?

I always hated this part of working in the family mill. But had to be done. it's great to see the American spirit alive and well.
All my best.

I never thought I would enjoy watching someone cleaning up saw dust. I really like watching you work.
I''m so glad you and many others enjoyed the video. Thanks for watching and commenting! LInda
You are welcome.
you lady, and people like you are the backbone of america.keep on rockin.
Hi Linda, I am an old timer and I wonder where you get all the energy. I don't do to bad for an 80 year old. I have a small bottom of the line band mill . it takes energy to push the saw through a log. I admire your energy and wish I had more. Keep up the good videos and I cheer you on.

It's amazing.
I have never seen a woman who is doing this well.
It's a great woman.
I always seem to see you doing the bulk of the heavy lifting. You are one of the most hard working women I have ever seen. I love your videos and the team work of the whole family. Well done and please keep the videos coming.
Physical labor motivates me, its what I enjoy most! I am glad you enjoy the videos! Thank you for the wonderful feedback & thanks for watching! Linda
Good job Linda. Safety equipment, spot on
This lady can put most men to shame.
We was using saw dust also to cover ice for keeping milk cold. But also for under cows. That about 40 years ago.
Your a girl after my own heart!!!! Man you work hard....
Just trying to get the job done that needs doing! :) Thank you for the compliment and thanks for watching! Linda
My Dad would say: "the jobs not over until you clean up and prepare your tools for tomorrow" then I would have to clean all his paintbrushes!
Hey Linda, you are not scared of a bit of "hard yakka" (work in Australian)
Think about making 3 trays (steel or timber) to put under the mill with forklift slots, at the end of the day you would lift them out (with the forklift) elevate them to bin height and scrape them out with the rake, it would save a lot of bending over, at the very lest a piece of 6x6 with a "bridle" that you tow out with the fork bringing the rubbish with it.
But as this video is a few years old you may have done this already.
Some wheels on the bin would help you a lot, like a longer handle on the shovel.
Avoiding to walk each time you want to throw of shovel in it is a good economy on your body and mind i think.

I use a Mobile Dimension saw, more sawdust. Cleanup sucks, but the beautiful lumber produced is worth it.
That is a whole lot of saw dust and wood debris for 1 full day of milling. I am glad to see you say that your dust collection system is 'adequate'. I hate to see what it would look like if your dust collection was considered 'poor'. LOL
Dust collection helps immensely! We occasionally blow on the floor, it makes a huge pile quickly. Thanks for watching! Linda
At least we now know how you keep your great shape.
Just one of the many contributing factors to my condition! My kids gave me a fitbit for Mother's Day and the device informed me that cleaning the mill floor gets my heart rate to a higher peak rate than most other activities! :) Fun little gadget. Thanks for watching! Linda

Wow, 40 hours of editing ! Now we are really looking forward to your next video.
Wow! I need a nap after watching this one! Good Job! I am amazed how you can lift that log lift Im twice your size and its hard for me!
As you have a fixed installation have you considered a few deflectors and a low conveyor to move the dust into a receptacle automatically? If you do that daily I think it would pay to do.
watching how hard you work makes me feel tired, you are an amazing woman you really are the person i would want to work with well done too you .
Now we know why Linda is in such great shape! Works her tail off!
Where is the rest of the crew?
Gone for the day?
So much for the owner having it easy!
Linda, "This Bud's for YOU!" Whew!
Just a suggestion - move the trash bucket closer - it will save you about 1000 steps a day and make it go faster. As Henry Ford would say.
How about a trough in the floor with grating over it. You seep everything to the grating, the dust drops through and could be vacumned out and the bigger lumps stay on top. I know you would hav to manually pick the lumps up but at least they are separated from the dust ???

Linda is a machine.Works a lot.
We have a firewood bussness and the saw chips we get off the processor is growing, its in bags, I was thinking of the composting part, are you folks doing that or someone else, would like to get information on it. Thanks Bob

One of those street sweeper size vacuums would save the back and legs...
Have y’all considered an industrial dust collection? I use to as a child play in the dust hopper at a sawmill I know now how dangerous that was.
we have a wood lot,my son has a lt28 its dads work to clean up after a day of making lumber,i know how you feel lol love your vids
Yes, the drawback of most jobs...clean up. I don't mind though, just another job that needs doing. Good exercise. 😉 Thanks for watching! Linda

Is that a snow shovel? I will have to buy one after many years in the southern states. Dunno iffn I ever used a plastic snow shovel. Is the plastic pretty sturdy and long lasting?
One of my dream jobs. I love working & being around wood. If it weren't for the bills, I'll pay you too work for you.!!
Haha, seems as though I've heard that before! Thanks for watching! Linda
Good use of voice over. I hope you'll do it more often.
I think if I had to do that job, I would use a smaller shovel and add a LOT of coffee breaks.
I'm not a big talker and really appreciate your feedback! I will do my best to add voice overs whenever I can.
My theory about shovel size: Small shovel = Slow progress, Sizable shovel = Speedy progress. ;) Thanks for watching! Linda
you are a worker lina .. hats off to you

How do you get the sawdust off the machines when I worked in the timber mill we had a hand Blower were used to blow the machines first and then clear up by the machines there were extractor pipes to take away sawdust that was on the floor sweep the sawdust into the extractors
I can watch this for hours
Have really enjoyed seeing your operation, have you considered a pellet making machine to use up all the scrap and sawdust?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video. We have considered it, but found it isn't cost effective in our operation. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching! Linda
Why don't you have a floor level dust collector input to just push the sawdust into? It could handle smaller chunks too!
Linda
Thumbs up for your channel Linda ......
Thank you! Thumbs up for your feedback! Thanks for watching! Linda
Linda you are just like my wife. I couldn"t do anything well without her.
"Now you know why they call me Dirty Harry..... every damn dirty job that comes along"....
I guess my parents could have named me Dusty Linda.
Linda
So I take it you don't have a gym membership! :) Maybe a pit and conveyor under the Mizer would help. Great shop!!
Hiya. From the uk .is all that sawdust and off cuts just from one days work ? Great vids keep them coming please
I'm a little confused, which isn't unusual for me. I saw you start out using a fork to separate chunks from the sawdust, but by the end of the video it all went in to the same bucket. And where were your helpers? They should be right in there helping too.
How combustible is all that dust? Do you need special precautions so there are no explosions? Just wondering.
Chip the chunky waste into animal bedding. Give it away to anyone willing to haul it away. Just a suggestion.
Try a leaf blower to quick clean the unit, it will save you much effort.
It's always the same, Moma always works longer than everyone else.
You are one hard working Lady Linda
Thank you for the compliment, but really, I just do what needs doing! Thanks for watching! Linda
what do you eat?
Food or gasoline?
No muscle ache at all?
why dont you build a collection box at the base of the saw to collect the waste maybe a converyer belt type to transport dust and debris outside
We run two woodmizer mills here at the farm sawing white cedar ! A 96 lt40hd g24 and a 2007 lt40super 52 hp cat
Awesome, we debated on keeping our first mill '93 LT40HDE after we converted it back to gas, but decided to sell it. Occasionally, it would be nice to have a second mill, but not 100% necessary in our application. Thanks for watching! Linda
Thanks for the videos, quite fun to watch
You are most welcome. I'm glad you enjoy them. Thanks for watching! Linda
Ever consider customizing a ShopVac?
the clean up is the part I like least about any job, but it has to be done.. I tried win 10 and I didn't care for it so I went back to 7..
Didn't think they gave you a choice as long as it was on the internet they would upgrade you.
Microsoft tricks you into believing that
Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 on January 2015, but extended support(incl security updates) won’t end until January 2020.This applies as long as you have Service Pack 1 installed. support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/15090/windows-7-install-service-pack-1-sp1
I don't like windows 10 at all but I had to get it because I switched to solid state drives.
Your one of a Kind!!!!
Linda
Do you just burn as is or do you have a Hammer mill to grind it finer and a pelletizer to make wood pellets
We burn it as is, or the local farmers use it for animal composting. Thanks for watching! Linda
What do you do with all the sawdust and scrap wood?
I'm impressed!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching! Linda
Great to see you Linda miss the videos

Linda
I couldn''t get a translation for this. Thanks for watching. Linda
