With a sleek silhouette and wide rear, with available 19-inch wheels, the 2024 Prius brings coupe-inspired looks to the legendary hybrid. Even the interior is made to inspire, featuring a clean, modern design, high tech driver and multimedia displays, and ambient lighting. Altogether, it’s a progressive, sporty Prius, that excites the senses.
Under the hood, the 2024 Prius is powered by the fifth generation Toyota Hybrid System and a 2.0L engine, delivering up to 196 net hp on Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive (e-AWD) equipped models and 194 net hp on Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) equipped models. With ample power the Prius still brings outstanding fuel efficiency, it has an impressive manufacturer-estimated 57 MPG combined rating - the best ever for a Prius and the most fuel-efficient hybrid in production for model year 2024. The available e-AWD system adds extra grip when needed while still having an impressive manufacturer-estimated 54 MPG combined rating.
The Prius also continues to play its part in Toyota’s diverse approach to reducing carbon emissions, as an iconic player in Toyota’s effort to move toward its “Beyond Zero” vision. With 16 electrified vehicles for customers to choose from, it’s part of a lineup that wears the new “Beyond Zero” badge, symbolizing Toyota’s global effort to get closer to a carbon neutral future.
The 2024 Prius will be available in a choice of six colors, including Wind Chill Pearl, Cutting Edge, Guardian Gray, Midnight Black Metallic, Supersonic Red or Reservoir Blue. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price, excluding Dealer Processing and Handling, will start at $27,650 for the LE grade.
Under the hood of the 2024 Prius is the fifth generation Toyota Hybrid System, which pairs the M20A-FXS inline four-cylinder 2.0L gas engine with two motor-generators through a planetary-type continuously variable transmission. A compact high-output/low-loss drive motor for the transaxle/motor uses a six magnet and electromagnetic steel plate configuration to support drive functions.
The engine, working in concert with the electric motor (MG2), assures responsive performance, while exemplary energy efficiency is achieved by using both electric motors (MG1 and MG2) to charge a lithium-ion battery. The result is an engaging acceleration experience with 194 combined hybrid system horsepower and an estimated 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds for FWD equipped models.
Another boost to Prius’ fuel efficiency comes from the Electronically Controlled Brake (ECB) system, which coordinates operation between the regenerative braking force of the electric motors and the hydraulic braking system force to provide optimal stopping power. By proactively using the electric motors to recover as much electrical energy as possible from the regenerative braking system, this extremely efficient cooperative control helps to maximize fuel economy.
An active hydraulic booster on the conventional (non-regenerative) braking system improves pedal feel and feedback for the driver. Brake Hold also comes standard, when engaged it is a convenient technology that reduces driver effort while waiting at a traffic light or while driving in heavy traffic. When the driver presses the accelerator, Brake Hold releases instantly.
Prius also offers EV mode, which allows the vehicle to be operated as a pure electric vehicle for short distances, depending upon certain conditions, such as battery charge level and vehicle speed.

One thing for people to keep in mind is the situation with the spare tire. I dont consider a canister of slime and small air compressor adequate at all plus if this is used it's likely the tire and TPM will be ruined resulting in a very expensive repair. Also the information for the exact correct size spare is not readily available in my opinion. If a person decided to buy a full size tire there really isn't a place to store it plus the alloy wheels and the tire size isn't readily available so if a 19 inch tire is ruined there will be some delay getting it back on the road. if I had known this it would have been a show stopper for me. The 23-24 Prius is the only car that uses these tires. Also if the 12V battery dies and the car needs towed a 12v source is needed to unlock the park position. Overall very disappointed with the purchase even tho I'm fine with the operation of the car otherwise. Most of the issues you mentioned aren't a problem for me.
It's unlikely that battery will become so dead that cannot even unlock the tranny. Both of my friends own 2010 Prius and the 13 year-old 12V batteries are still good today. I also wish that there is a spare tire. I would probably buy 1 full size tire and put it in my garage or bring it on a long trip.
A 12v lithium jump pack is cheap and good insurance for any 12v battery issues. I keep a tire plug kit in my vehicles, never had to use it.
Yes, the 12v pack is on my list. I spent the money for the proper Toyota parts and now have a nice temporary spare but under the right conditions a good plug kit and the little compressor would be better. Also the compressor Toyota supplies can be used with out the slime if needed.@@mowcowbell
They have spare OEM tire kits that fit in the storage place about $125.00
If you own a regular Prius Hybrid you can source a Spare Kit from Toyota. It includes a full size tire and rim, lug wrench/jack, modified foam inserts and, a steel shield to protect the electrical junction that sits in the "tire well". There's also a wheel hold down bolt hole already in the well.
Sadly, the kit will not work with our 2024 Prime. There is no wheel well under the hatch floor, it's all battery. Nowhere to stow a spare ! In city driving, a spare is not as important. But, with our roads, a long trip sans a spare with vast distances between towns a spare is something you very well might need.
Our immediate concern is with finding a set of winter tires. At the moment, no manufacturer offers one in the 195 -60 17" size. In our city snow tires are really something you need. I visited a local shop, asking them to find us the closest size in a winter grip. They came up with a a 215-60 16". Price; under $240 CAD for tire and matching rim. Getting a set sort of solves the lack of a spare problem. On long trips we can throw the "spare" in the hatch and carry on.
One day, I'm buying the 2024 Toyota Prius.
i hope so me too :)
Wait about 10 years
You and me both brother
Why are they 40k rn 💀
Till they get the bugs worked out !
it's the yellow hand that made me sub 👆
Very nice detailed review - the driving part was surpisingly short compared to the rest though.
Pick up mine on Friday. Exactly same model. Can’t wait. 🎉
How long did it take to get, because you waited were you able to get it close to MSRP?
Just put my deposit on my 24 Limited today! Black/black interior, very stoked. Thanks for the frank and thorough review, I'm a bit shorter than you and didn't feel cramped in the driver's seat. Will need more time behind the wheel to really feel out the steering wheel position and the pseudo-HUD. Will probably re-watch this once mine gets through this current recall process and finishes its journey to my city, it's currently sitting at the port 4 hours away!
havent watched your vids in a while! youre one of the best car reviewers on here!
Very informative. Great job. Thanks Mike ))))
GREAT review. All sorts of points to help someone considering this car make a decision.
One of the better detailed reviews I’ve seen on this vehicle, thank you!!
Love the video but every time I saw that little hand I kept dying of laughter 😂. Great work 👍🏼
that pointer finger 😂
The steering wheel blocking the dash maybe cause by pull the too far out.
I been driving my 2023 limit with steering wheel push closest to dash for two mouth now and ever has an issue with the dash been block, narrow front view or A pillar blocking the view.
Indeed. It looks like his legs are almost completely straight out. Most people drive with their legs more bent which means you're closer to the dash. He has a strange driving position, and it's not due to his overall height. Maybe he has unusually long legs for a 6' person. 🙂
@@mrxman581I’m 5’ 5” and haven’t had a single problem.
Good overall review but I disagree with a lot of the negative quirks you list. I have the XSE Premium Prime and love it. My previous car was a 2004 Prius which I drove for 19 years until i got my Prime.
The three issues I have are as follows.
1. Not as easy to get in and out
2. Rear window view is less
3. The reduced rear cargo area
However, those three negatives are overwhelmingly minimized by the much greater number of positives. The number one being the huge difference in power. It's even more noticeable in the Prime.
BTW, my Prime is also much more quiet than my 2004 Prius. So, I guess, it's all relative.🙂
Kind of the same for me with the noise, I'm coming from a 2006 Civic so the Prius is pretty quite
I own the new Prius as well. I agree with you totally. The largest issue is the reduced cargo area. But this is minor for me when you consider all of the other areas of improvement.
Very thorough review. Thank you Sir!
Great review. Like the idea for what this car was trying to be but it just has so many quirks about it that it takes away from the exterior design.
Not really. It comes down to personal experience. For example, I'm 5'-11" and have absolutely no issues with comfortably seeing the gauge cluster. I also don't feel like I'm sitting on the floor. And there are many other things I don't agree with him. But, again, that's HIS personal experience.
Not for older people /////
I's a back breaker ingress and egress !
I guess it depends on how old abd whether you're in good shape. But, yes, you're right at least compared to the older Prius. Seems Toyota want a younger demographic to buy the car. Older drivers can get the Rav4 or Crown. 🙂
@@mrxman581specifically the crown… exactly what old people want (aside from brands). Easy to get in and out of… full size sedan… great mpg… etc.
very nice car hybrid yes
Excellent detailed video review . Thank you!
In Canada, the engine breaking is awesome when the car is sliding on ice 😂
lol
For the HUD dash, you need to raise your seat and tilt it back. This makes sure headroom is not a problem but allowing you to be high enough to see the display.
Excellent detailed review. Thanks
fyi press and hold the mode button to pause audio which works to mute
Bought the XLE I'm thinking of trading it for a month of driving experience with it.
Never had a detachment with a New car before.
Im not a big guy but this car is small that you're always hitting something when getting in.
The steering wheel blocks center gauge cluster
The touch to unlock door handle is finicky, it keeps locking the car after a few touches instead of unlocking it.
When you have the windows roll down and there's a cross wind as you're driving, the moon roof cover starts raddling with the wind, on a 37k car.
If I'm not mistaken, pressing the volume down button for a second will mute ,and either volume up/down again will unmute.
I noticed your EV light when you decelerate doesn’t come on. Another words kicks into battery mode. I could tell by the power meter when you were decelerating. Which is weird because mine comes on as soon as I let go of the accelerator. Your light did come on, but it was like when you were slowing way down.
I have the 2023 XLE and yes, the getting in and out is a problem for me at 6' 2" but it is what it is. I did fix the LOUD noise under the hood so now it is 80% quiet and what a relief. My fourth Prius going back to the 2004 model.
How did you fix the loud noise?
We have had a deposit on a 23 limited awd since April ,
I just bought mine today. The only color they had in the entire region was silver, and even though I really wanted white or gray... I felt lucky to get this one. I watched this video twice when I got home to learn how to use everything. Phenomenal detail on basically every function. And the perfect amount of praise and nitpick. It really is a sharp looking car, but the dash and steering wheel are confusing at first to navigate. I have had a Prius C since 2012, so I thought it would be a smooth transition. But they are wayyy different, which is mostly a good thing. I was used to the road noise of the 2012 Prius and a Jeep Wrangler before that, so this new one sounds like ninja compared to those😂.
The white is not really white. Take a very close look on a bright day. The paint is pearl, not white. We had ours for a month before discovering that. Love it, 4,350Km and we've gassed it up once............................. . Also had a 2012 C, big upgrade.
Will the adaptive cruise control come to a stop in heavy traffic and start again automatically, or do you have to reengage it?
The newer Prius looks really sweet looking and love the newer design would be something I would get
It doesn’t have a flip-around CD loader though
Everything was fine until I found out they wanted 40 grand for this car, I don't think so.
Amazing sedan Mike.
Really thinking of getting something like this for my mom. But I'm worried about the cold temperature messing with the battery.
I fear for your GoPro camera every time you drive the car over it.
He needs to drive a sports car over it to really test the limits
It is actually a Sony AX100 camera. Not cheap :)

*GREAT* Review 🎉🎉
I my opinion to expensive if we speak about almost 50k Euro in Croatia for such car. The car looks nice and the quality is there but for that money....
There is a reason Prius owners buy them over and over again. This one is my first. We plan on having it for 500K.
Very informative. Great job. Could you tell me what the total torque output is on the Prius.
I would think with 194 HP - the torque number should be over 200 .
Toyota intentionally avoids combining torque numbers in the spec sheet. 152 seems about right after driving it.

I wish i never seen the cameras in the front. I never noticed it until you said it.
I liketo sit pretty close to the dash and pretty high. The can easily see the full display, but I can't move the sun visor to the side. In my old prius I had to move my head to the side to move it but in the 2024 it hits the head rest and so can't be used to shade the side. Don't care though, I LOVE this car (my 4th Prius) ❤
All car reviewers are 6 feet tall
bro that Toyota emblem being off center bugs me lol
So Mike, was there anything about this amazing machine you did like?
It looks good and it is fast. I like the car overall and I think it would be a good car for a lot of people. Especially the lower more affordable trims.
Any one having trouble with the 12 volt battery dying? 2023
Toyota's are often noisey. I have a Tacoma and it has wind noise and almost sounds like there a window down a bit.
The car is not as noisy for me. I guess it depends on what you're comparing it too.
Also, the drone of the ecvt only really is noticeable as you're first accelerating. Once you reach the speed you want, it's gone. So in highway driving it's really not an issue. Even in city driving unless you're the type of driver that always floors it after a stop sign or traffic light.
@mrxman581 Cvt transmissions don't bother me. I had a Honda Civic and it kind of made a little bit of that drone sound. I'm fine with it.
I know everybody likes this new style but to me it’s just ugly. I don’t think it looks nice. I think it looks plain and kinda weird looking. I don’t think it’s attractive. I think the other ones you know you know what they are. They look the same they kind of get used to on my I don’t see the problem with them. I I don’t like this I don’t like how low to the ground it is maybe it’s just up thing that’s perceives you know and all these videos but you know if you got to go over very much of a driveway you may grab something and it looks like maybe you won’t know I don’t know, but I just don’t care for it
That Prius sound like crap😂😂😂
It looks like a cut off Dodge Intrepid 😂
But for real it really is just a rebadge Chevrolet Volt just more rounded.
No, not even close.
Your review is terrible
Thanks for sharing your opinion 😀
wow what a splendidly engineered vehicle
Everything was fine until I found out they wanted 40 grand for this car, I don't think so.
I just bought a 2024 Prius and, I'm loving it! I'm clueless about using many of the features, so this video has been helpful. Thank you! 😉
Sweet looking Prius
My 2023 Prius radio button is on the driver's side. Weird I had to go out to my car to double check😊.
You must have the smaller screen.
Somehow front disc brakes rotors are definitely very small in diameter. Rotors has to be at least 2"-3"bigger on diameter. Then would be ok. Without that Prius is..👎That's a observation of man who can see important things that most cannot. Have nice day to all TH-camrs.♥️🕊️🌍👌👍
This vehicle doesn't rely solely on friction braking. A large part of the deceleration of the vehicle is done through regenerative braking.
