I love love love Trent Crimm. I feel like he knew he was sent to do a hit piece, and the true turning point was when he was getting ready to leave. "...you actually believe that, don't you?" The whole day just gelled for him and he realized it wasn't an act, it wasn't a show for his benefit, he was seeing Ted for who he is. I love the way the actor says "I can't help but root for him," like even he can't believe he's writing those words.
Yeah, I realized just now on like... the 8th time rehearing trent's article. When an article plays down the good or the bad, it makes their opposite views "weaker", but *because* Trent is so willing to state how much he thinks Ted will fail, its that much more believable when he says good things about him. Every hot take on youtube, etc. ignores the other side so it makes it harder for me to take anything they say seriously.
I LOVE this episode. Getting to see Ted’s mentality a bit more in depth, and just how genuinely he cares for everyone he comes across. He’s so empathetic and selfless. He’s one of the best characters ever. Also, Trent’s hair is unmatched 👌
[Omn1 -- I worded this comment VERY carefully with the intention to avoid any future spoilers, but if you don't want to roll the dice, or if you'll speculate yourself out of enjoying a final product, then don't read this comment, okay?] 5 4 3 2 1 Anyway, I think I read A Wrinkle In Time when I was a child, but I've definitely read Ender's Game, because the movie was a little disappointing... but I can see how it affects Sam's journey as a person. Even though we all love the "Be A Goldfish" thing, that's half of the coin. He's eager to please, and when he doesn't, he takes it a little personally. His rivalry with Jamie is a great subplot, and it makes a lot of sense that Ender's Game would elevates Sam's positive qualities. At the beginning of Season 1, he gets tripped by Jamie, and angrily slaps the ground, and when Jamie walks up, "This is where Sam died!" Of course that's going to bother Sam. But that's not the same Sam that figures out how to be a good, kind-hearted, wholesome, and compassionate human being... that also takes no shit from ANYBODY, no matter how big they think they are. Their gate is down. But admittedly, I don't think I've actually read the other two books. So, for those of you who have, how accurate would you say the other books are, as far as being a subtle commentary on the character they're given to? As far as being a, "I know you better than you think I do," kind of flex, is he right? One looks right just from the title, but I'm just curious if Ted is having a, "I want you to know that I know, and we will never speak of this again," moment years ahead of a specific plot point. Look at how pissed off Roy gets realizing that Ted has him completely pegged after a handful of brief interactions. And then look at Trent realizing that this wanker who doesn't care about losing games had Roy Kent completely pegged after a handful of brief interactions. Roy - A Wrinkle In Time Sam - Ender's Game Jamie - The Beautiful & The Damned Colin - The Alchemist
Just like you need to get used to crying out of nowhere, you also need to prepare yourself for the level of suit p0rn that Rebecca delivers on the regular. Everything about her wardrobe, including her bags, are so gorgeous they physically hurt me.
Also, one thing I really enjoy is that on occasion she will wear the same outfit again...like a real person. Its not often, but you will notice it through the seasons a couple of times.
Roy angrily declaring "So, I don't need a phone AND a watch" after keeley pointing out that his one night stands end up in the news because he has bad taste was my favourite part of the episode. I also love how they completely flipped my expectations of keeley, I thought she was going to be an annoying, sexist, bimbo type character who only serves to mock soccer wives and gfs more than they already are, and went "she's a kind, compassionate, intelligent who'll quite literally look past the worst in people and go straight for the best parts of them to help them improve." although her "roy i could wind you up easily if i wanted to" and then proceeding to do it was also fantastic. You should watch The Bear when you're done with Ted Lasso. Only two 8 episode seasons so far.
Really enjoyed this reaction. Ted Lasso season 1 is as near as anybody's ever come to a PERFECT season of television. It has the defining hallmark of all great art: it becomes MORE rewarding with repeated experience. Certain books, for example, don't just manage to be as good the second time around as they were the first...they become BETTER. Certain movies will ALWAYS reveal some new facet upon every repeat viewing. Ted Lasso season 1 is that kind of work.
I've watched your reactions for a long time now and I don't think I've seen you laugh this much watching anything else. I'm so happy you are enjoying it as much as we all did. Thanks, Omn1!
The other thing you notice: When Higgins says to remember that the words come from Trent Crimm, The Independent, the voice-over of the article changes from Higgins to Trent Crimm, The Independent.
I love that this episode really is the first step in showing how Ted's faith in people and optimism that they'll do the right thing allows others to, as Ted said, be their best selves. Roy, Trent, and even Nate are all good people trapped in the cynicism and benign cruelty of bad systems- Roy in the toxic masculinity of football culture, Trent in the sensationalist news world that prioritizes tearing people down for outrage bait over building people up, and Nate in a bad employment hierarchy that previously devalued his contributions as a person let alone as a potential asset to the team. It's so easy to hide behind that cynicism vs letting yourself be vulnerable by showing you care but Ted always puts himself out there first as someone who obviously cares so SO much that it makes room for others to do the same- Roy to address the locker room bullying, Trent to write a supportive article instead of the hit piece I think he was expecting/expected to write, and Nate to share his ideas with Ted & Beard. And Ted was correct that it's a domino effect- Trent helped Roy understand the book, which prompted him to shut the bullying down for real, and in turn the lack of bullying is sure to bolster Nate's confidence in the future. I also think it's important to note (& I think Ted making Roy handle the bullies vs doing it himself is a nod to this) that Ted's faith & optimism is not childish or stupid. Too often in modern media "nice" characters are shown to be nice only because they're too dumb to be cynical like the rest of us. Ted is not that- he isn't too naive to clock the bullying going on or too much of an ingenue to recognize it wouldn't stop if he just asked for it. He's "strategically nice" and I love that!
Yup. Roy Kent just became my favorite character. And Ted did get specific books for each player. Trent Crimm is awesome with his head of rock star hair and his writing. So great. And yeah. I'm shipping Keely and Roy from here. Their interaction and that look at the club was telling.
My boyfriend and I were Ted Lasso and a soccer player from Yellowjackets! Crossover!! And he really looked like ted lasso. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I did! Its soooo good and fun and wholesome!
Love your reactions and commentary, I just subscribed. I can tell you’re a good dude, and a cat person to boot! Beautiful cat btw, he looks a lot like my buddy of 16 years that I had to put down recently. 😢 Keep up the good work!
This is genuinely the best tv show I've ever seen. So wholesome, so heartfelt, I bet by the end you feel the same. This show helped me through the toughest of times
In the Jack Ryan movies, whenever Ryan figures out the secret he'd been missing, he'll mark it with a sudden, "Son of a b*****!" With Roy, it's "F***!" Love watching you enjoy the process.
Yeah, I was NOT ready for all the feels that come along with this show. I'd heard about it and watched the Emmys the year it pretty much dominate the major acting categories, but didn't really know anything about it. I thought it was just a straight up comedy.
Glad you've started this show, have been watching along with your delight and tears, you're in for a journey. Left a comment for the kitty too, what's the name?
Phoebe is the innocent little morsel that keeps paying dividends. I think I love her more than Roy because she points out that Roy actually does have a filter.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this. I’m enjoying your Ted Lasso reactions, started watching your Loki reactions too. 👏👏👏 I laughed at the branded joke too. Probably because I live near a farming community in the U.K.
14:22 - This is such a great scene... but if you REALLY want to understand what's going on, check out the Normies' reaction to it. That's not a race thing, it's a culture thing. As soon as Ted said, "I've never had Indian food," they were IMMEDIATELY horrified like they were watching somebody kill themselves in slow motion. I mean, I can't help but recommend that reaction. I mean, it's a race thing on ME, because I'm white, I don't know *anybody* in real life who has actually had Indian food, so I had no frame of reference for how wholesome and selfless that entire scene actually is. It's not like he sat there and ate twenty McDoubles in a row just to make the guy feel better about himself, that dude was shoveling LAVA into his mouth. It was horrifying. And a fair chunk of The Normies are absolutely familiar with that culture and that cuisine. It was educational as fuck.
I love love love Trent Crimm. I feel like he knew he was sent to do a hit piece, and the true turning point was when he was getting ready to leave. "...you actually believe that, don't you?" Fun fact - Higgins wife in the show is his actual wife! When you said “it’s a little glimpse into his life” I giggled 😂
Yes, the coaches got every player a different book.
Sam- Ender's Game
Roy- A Wrinkle in Time
Jamie- The Beautiful & the Damned
Colin- The Alchemist
And they come to play even in the final season!

Whoever styled Hannah did an AMAZING job. She doesn't miss not once in the whole show.
Also, one thing I really enjoy is that on occasion she will wear the same outfit again...like a real person. Its not often, but you will notice it through the seasons a couple of times.

The books were customized lessons for each player. Jaime getting the Great Gatsby is making me rethink that book.

U say heartwarming. And Ted being the father I never had and you don’t even know what’s coming.
I've watched your reactions for a long time now and I don't think I've seen you laugh this much watching anything else. I'm so happy you are enjoying it as much as we all did. Thanks, Omn1!

Loving the reactions for Lasso. It really is an excellent show. That feline friend of yours is gorgeous!

10:49 it’s actually a really good impression
This is the episode that hooked me 100%. You're in for an amazing time watching this show.
This show just gets better and better the more you get to know and love the characters. Great reaction, Lad. Looking forward to the next. 👍
'I'm cute as a button & can rhyme my azz off' ♥ Keeley!
Yup. Roy Kent just became my favorite character. And Ted did get specific books for each player. Trent Crimm is awesome with his head of rock star hair and his writing. So great. And yeah. I'm shipping Keely and Roy from here. Their interaction and that look at the club was telling.
I love when people hate season 1 Jamie. 🤭
Makes the fall so much better.
Aw... your cat is so cute.
Yeah this show really does sneak up on you with the feels
My boyfriend and I were Ted Lasso and a soccer player from Yellowjackets! Crossover!! And he really looked like ted lasso. Hope you're enjoying it as much as I did! Its soooo good and fun and wholesome!
A brilliant reactor AND a cat guy? Winning. 😁
AND a fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender! (rockin' that shirt!)
Love your reactions and commentary, I just subscribed. I can tell you’re a good dude, and a cat person to boot! Beautiful cat btw, he looks a lot like my buddy of 16 years that I had to put down recently. 😢 Keep up the good work!
what a beautiful cat
This is genuinely the best tv show I've ever seen. So wholesome, so heartfelt, I bet by the end you feel the same. This show helped me through the toughest of times
Cute cat
THANK YOU! I thought I was the only one that saw the Sam Witwer similarity
Same here!
When I first saw Jaime I was also like "is that Sam Britwer?" haha
In the Jack Ryan movies, whenever Ryan figures out the secret he'd been missing, he'll mark it with a sudden, "Son of a b*****!" With Roy, it's "F***!"
Love watching you enjoy the process.
Love that you love this so much! Such a great show with so much humor and heart! So excited for you to see it all.
Thats a sick shirt
There are episodes of this show that are going to absolutely destroy this young man.
I love watching people fall in love with this show. It's an incredible journey and I can't wait to watch your reactions to the rest of the show.
Yeah, I was NOT ready for all the feels that come along with this show. I'd heard about it and watched the Emmys the year it pretty much dominate the major acting categories, but didn't really know anything about it. I thought it was just a straight up comedy.
If the american stereotype was based on Ted Lasso, you guys would be loved.
Glad you've started this show, have been watching along with your delight and tears, you're in for a journey. Left a comment for the kitty too, what's the name?
Sofa King Heartwarming.
Really fun reaction to a great episode! Nice kitty!
I’m from Overland Park, KS like Sudeikis. We do have good Indian food. And Ethiopian. And just about everything especially BBQ.
Loved their relationship together, Krim and Ted
I have seen this show a lot but it's nice to see it again through fresh eyes. Also, your cat is adorable. 😻
Phoebe is the innocent little morsel that keeps paying dividends. I think I love her more than Roy because she points out that Roy actually does have a filter.
This is still one of my fav episodes of the entire show
This show is perfect. It's the best show I've ever seen in my 48 years of watching TV shows. 😊
I’ve been looking forward to seeing this. I’m enjoying your Ted Lasso reactions, started watching your Loki reactions too. 👏👏👏 I laughed at the branded joke too. Probably because I live near a farming community in the U.K.
Good God, Son! Invest in some Kleenex! But you'll love every tear. I promise!
You noticed him from Thor but he was also in Harley Quinn, the Valentine’s Day special
Brett Goldstein played a 40 foot version of himself in Harley Quinn's Valentine Day Special.
this makes me happy
14:22 - This is such a great scene... but if you REALLY want to understand what's going on, check out the Normies' reaction to it. That's not a race thing, it's a culture thing. 5:25 nope. She was being honest.
It’s a football club, so clubhouse would probably be appropriate for the offices and facilities.
Brace yourself I get the feels with every episode
I have a bad heart. I might not have the time to wait a week per episode. Is that selfish?
14:10 aaaand you skipped the crux of the scene.
Every reactor is so thirsty for Rebecca and I AM HERE FOR IT.
You may need to keep tissues within reach at all times for the rest of this show... just saying...
Free Palestine!
This is the closest thing to those old 60s comedies that used to have a lesson in them like the Andy Griffith show. I love this character! Peace!
