I have no problem with SC5 myself; I felt the character creation there is superior to SC6. There are also no joke weapons (such as cornstalks for Maxi). So much of my high school life was wasted with friends on fucking around with the stupidest shit we could come up with. I just know that many folks dedicated to the series had a scathing view of SC5 because around half of the roster was gone (Zasalamel, Edge Master, Talim, Taki, Seong Mina, Sophitia, original Yoshimitsu, etc. due to the story's 20 year timeskip from SC4) and some replaced by clones, with only two character playstyles (ZWEI and Viola) actually being new. When you suddenly take away so many staple favourites at once, of course fans will be pissed. Ezio being the guest character was probably the only redeeming feature to many. The story being told through incomplete static storyboards and no arcade character endings did not sit well for those folks either, as Soul Edge/Calibur as a whole had been known for its intricate and interwoven lore, something uncharacteristic of most fighting games.
