Hey, i'm watching all your videos and i really enjoy them. I was an oboist and had to stop playing because i didn't had the money to pay for an instrument. I miss it so much and your videos make me so happy
Hi there, thanks so much for you comment! I am happy you are enjoying my videos and I am sorry that you weren't able to continue playing the oboe, it's never too late though!
You should look into renting one!! I saw some at a local shop near me for like 30$ a month and that way it’s not fully diving in commitment. It’s such a glorious instrument I’d jump back in :)
The breathing techniques alone are so therapeutic.
Come onnn, the conical bore of the Oboe makes it a little wooden Saxophone. We all have problems downstairs. The cylindrical Clarinet makes more sense but it is finger-breaking difficult. Flute has one counting up ledger lines, & low notes are disappointing. What's the best Woodwind? OBOE. The Trumpet of the WW Section. If it wasn't for the reed-making BS I'd still be playing one. (you guys get the best melodic lines).
I totally agree
What is a conical bore?? I play sax and I’m getting an oboe soon, does that mean I’ll have an easier time learning it?
Thanks
Oh never mind, you answered my question lol
It’s a heavy investment for sure if you don’t learn to make reeds xD
But agree 10000%. No woodwind leaves me with as many goosebumps as the oboe. Such a Melodic.. divine sound.
Die Spieltechnik der Oboe von Günther Passin. In Europe it is available on Stretta
Look up the Zerna. It’s essentially a middle eastern oboe. I have one….and it’s revered for that paunchy abrasive sounds haha (I have one in one of my latest tracks)
However I JUST got an Oboe yesterday and mine ONLY sounds like a Zerna… loud and pushy. I want that soft melodic sound I hear in orchestral solos and romantic pieces. So is this a technique in the embouchure? Love your video Brotha!! I liked and subscribed immediately. But I’m still driving myself crazy unable to get that “soft, melodic” sound off this oboe… I know it’s only been one day but I’m typically a fast learner and grasp many woodwind embouchure very efficiently. But now I see why the oboe is so legendary xD
In your videos when you start at like 2:30 ITS PERFECT. That’s the clean, soft warm sound I’m trying to do but all I get is a LOUD duck like attack of sound haha
I know the Zurna, similar way of creating the vibrations but a lot different in the sound. You need a different technique for the oboe in order to create that softer sound.
If I can compare with with another instrument it would but more like an Armenian duduk, that soft mellow sound of it.
Be patiente, it takes a while to achieve that 😉
really great!!
thanks for uploading!!
no idea of other connical instruments outside oboe
Where did you study?
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Saxophone for example is also connical!
I studied in Sofia,Paris and in Germany.
@@BeyondOboe I was thinking that saxophone was also connical.
Most brass instruments apart from trumpet are conical afaik
Look into a Zerna (Zeurna) it’s a middle eastern conical instrument. Sounds very close to an oboe but more abrasive as that genre of music likes to KICK with leads. It’s a fun instrument too with a very similar double reed as well!
@@souliseum5437 I heard the Zurna is slowly getting replaced by the clarinet. But I don’t understand why it isn’t being replaced by the oboe, because it’s more similar to one. Do you know?
Hi,could you write the title of the book?Thank you!
Günther Passin / Reinhold Malzer: Die Spieltechnik der Oboe
Link is in the description.
Hey can you play an oboe with dentures
I haven't come across this situation but I would think why not, give it a try.
