The most remarkable thing is he did it with the same school. Like him or not, the man is a legend and right up there as one of the greatest to ever do it. Having 60+ players come back to celebrate the record with him last night is VERY impressive.
Geno & CD, Pat Summit, Tara VanDerveer, and others were instrumental in growing women's basketball and women's sports to what they are today. The great fans of places like Connecticut, Tennessee, Indiana who showed the support that made it viable to invest in Women's sports was also instrumental. As a Connecticut resident I have always been proud of how we have supported & Celebrated our Women Huskies as much as our Men. Many good people in Connecticut supported the Women Huskies only because they felt it was the right thing to do and to make up for the lack of recognition they received. My Grandfather didn't watch sports except for UConn Women's basketball, he understood the importance of sports in society. If he were able to watch last night's ceremony I know it would have made him proud and brought tears to his eyes.
All time great and when he retires the wins record might as well be retired with him as it will never be broken. He could have coached men and been great there too, but he chose to build something out of nothing and change the game in women’s BB in the process and we all benefit from this decision. I am not a big women’s sports rah-rah type but this guy belongs on the Mt Rushmore of college coaches in any sport, men’s or women’s.

Actually Geno hit the 1000 game mark faster than any coach men or woman and with only one university.
I've always wondered how he'd do coaching men, but what he's done is impressive regardless
With an 88.2% win pct.!
All the more remarkable that he did it coaching the most difficult human beings on the planet!
Damn Fritzy's face and head seem to growing larger by the week.
Yup. Not even debatable.
Geno is an all time coach but will be remembered as a CC hater
Get a brain will you..
Not a hater, a CC realist.
@ he’s clueless
@bdc2320 not true!
The disrespect to Dawn Staley in this conversation … wow
@@VyPrezWolfpackMusic where is the disrespect to Dawn Staley? When she does what he has done, then you can talk.
Why even bring Dawn Staley
