Thanks both, interesting vlog, we try to use ours throughout the year, so it gets heated up and dried out regularly when we do that. All the best for now, Tony and Julie.
Thank you both 🥰 Great to use it over winter, we hope to get out soon now Caroline is better - it's so much quieter and peaceful too so can see why you like to get away 😁👍
Rachel moaned on at me when I didn’t heat the van, said she was cold and insisted on me putting the heating on …. oh when not in it… I sometimes put the heating on low if it’s very cold (below a couple of degrees), especially if it’s going to be like that for a few days, if we’ve not heated it for a few weeks or used it will pop the heating on for a couple of hours to make sure it is warmed through - clearly with energy costs need to be careful not to run up a daft bill 😳 Have a great weekend, all the best, David & Rachel 👍
Definitely need to heat the van when away over winter or Caroline refuses to come 😂 know what you mean 😁 good idea to heat it before you go away especially as they take a while to heat up from cold if not been used for a while 👍
Thanks for that. Our first winter with a van. We have been using it quite a bit but pretty much what you do. I do take the dehumidifier out every couple of weeks and I do run the heating every now and then to make sure it still is all working OK! Thanks for sahring.
The dehumidifier is a good idea, even just to check the moisture in the air isn't too high 👍 Also the heating as good to make sure it all works before your next trip 🥰
Jon from Life beyond bricks did an interesting vlog last week comparing the cost of leccy v gas to run his MH. I always left everything open in our Cali and used a non plug in dehumidifier and like you always opened the roof on a dry sunny day. Cheers K.
Ah thanks will check that video out. Good idea with the non plug in dehumidifier, it's amazing the amount of moisture in the air sometimes even at home! 👍😁
Our CV20 is kept in storage and I give it a run every 2 weeks or so, we do much as you suggest plus putting dehumidifier in the van, amazing how much water that collects , so far so good
We had a caravan for 13 years and never had heat in it over the winter, no problem with damp. First winter with the campervan and it’s going to be the same so hopefully it will be ok. No option however as it is in storage but it gets taken out every two weeks for a run. Best thing though is to use it as much as you can.
That's very good advice David thank you, It's good to take it out not just for the habitation side but also the van bit. Brakes, battery, etc. 👍 good to know it worked so well for your caravan thank you, hopefully we will have the same 🥰
I am learning such a lot from your videos .... and I haven't even got my camper van yet!! Now apparently I need to get a dog as well ... !! ... or do you rent out Mollie by the hour to do her exploratory checks? Another great video, and I am already looking forward to next Friday.
We have a small ceramic heater on low. As we are out most week ends it means we can empty waste etc. fill the water tank. So we can leave ASAP on Fridays We used to do pretty much what you do when we had a caravan
Great idea with the heater especially when you are using it over winter, that's the only downside for us takes longer to set up and drain down 👍🥰 love your on board tanks
Did you have to move the mattress topper to make room for the gin bottles? looks like a great collection. Good to see you back. Hope your all feeling well now.
@@michaelodling248 ... or do you think that they could have been 'PhotoShopped' in so that there was no need to do a beer review! I missed this weeks beer review!
The cost is not a factor for us, it is more about where we store it and the accessibility to a power point. I think with blown heating there is the issue of a wearing down of the mechanical action over time. Our van temperature went down to -14 deg C in January and we have suffered a breakage to our water filter on the side of the water pump but more significantly a break to the ABS shower tray which hopefully is covered under warranty. Our car was subjected to the same temperatures although it was used daily and did not suffer any issues. There is a lot more 'going on' in a motorhome or camper van and thus things can malfunction because of the cold. Keeping gas on will only last a few days - does the cost and inconvenience outweigh the benefits? Heating with such low outside temperatures causes condensation which can be another issue. Most manufacturers market these vehicles as all weather RV's and they should be set up as such. they don't say, keep them heated if it does into minus figures. they expect you to use them in Iceland during the winter and in Spain with plus 35. Having said that, thanks for the great video.
Oh wow that's frustrating for you! Didn't even think of that, I guess it hasn't been that cold for such a long period in the UK for a good few years. You are spot on compared to cars, they have less domestic elements but if we continue to get weather swings like this year manufacturer's should do more, good idea 😁👍
We do have one for both beds but the downstairs one we only use if extended periods and not just us 2 in the van. The downstairs one was a cheap purchase from factory outlet as we bought when away but the upstairs one was more expensive purchase after careful research to make sure it fitted in the pop top - we did a video on it with the full details and price which should be in our review playlist 👍
@@VantasticAdventures thank you, I thought I'd remembered a video on how to make the beds more comfy... I'll pop the kettle on and watch some back episodes 😊
Hi Paul, it's for a light strip on the outside of the cabinet where the door opens, only issue is it's extremely bright 😂 useful if sat in the awning though 👍
Ha ha 😂 Caroline is with you 100% 😁 Good that you get to use it, so many have to stay in storage. We should get badges for each season of winter camping 🏕️ 😂👍
100% do not heat the van unless you heat it to normal temp all the time. If heating comes on and off and it is cold this is cause condensation. My caravan is in storage and we bring home the seats and the carpet plus toppers we then have the roof vent open enough for a finger to fit in that it. When the caravan was stored at home I bought a boat dehumidifier because these work at much lower temp and in that class you stop air flow.
Thanks James love the boat dehumidifier idea, really good idea will check that out thank you as may be handy after a trip and the van contains moisture 😁👍
Enjoyed that, our first winter with our 6 Metre VW campervan. We drained down after our last trip to Chatsworth Dec 9th. Did everything you have but i did leave our van heating on 6 deg during the really cold snaps over Christmas. I tend not to leave the van on charge all the time, but my main concern is we haven't driven our van since Dec 9th. I was wondering do you start your engine and let it run or do you not bother ? We have a site booked mid Feb so will be using it then.
Hello that's a good idea to keep it on low just to be safe 🥰👍 We do run the van, although we have solar topping up the battery we try to take it for a run to get it up to temperature at least once a month, makes sure the brakes etc. Don't get stuck on and everything is working ahead of our next trip 👍
Come on you 2, get that van out in the winter you pair of softies. We’ve just got back from Scotland, bloody freezing outside but a toasty 23 deg C inside 😂
Ha ha 😂 can't wait to get out in it this year, currently sat in on the drive with no heating on and it's freezing (as the van text us to say temperature warming) but absolutely love it 🥰 Feb we are back on it, hope you enjoyed Scotland 🏴
This time it was a filter on the camera 📷 😂 We bought a new gimbal for the phone and used the software which made us both look very odd as it had a filter activated 😂 Will try to work it out next week or use the proper camera 👍
Good advice. We tried keeping the heating on in our caravan a few years ago and the cost far outweighed the benefits. Weekly checks and good circulation is the best option and I have never seen the point in condensation catcher gadgets either 🙂 Don’t forget to start the engine and drive your van every month to keep the engine, brakes, tyres etc all moving. Standing for long periods isn’t good either. 👍🏻😃🚐 Trev

Yep, I've come to the conclusion it doesn't really do much running a heater on low. Rare for ours to go more than a few weeks without use though.
That's good, it's great to get out in the winter ❄️ often much quieter and feels more of an adventure, like your recent trips 🥰👍

The bottle collection was the first thing that I noticed ... but were they all half full or half empty.
