If you take off using wifi and your phone, then start video, then activate gesture mode from the 'mode menu', you will be told that it can't enter gesture mode as video is running But...if you switch on Spark, then begin the video before you fly, then use double tap to enter gesture mode, it will go into gesture mode , fly and keep recording video
Sebastian Thommen yeah he started recording using his phone or RC. Until now there is no gesture for start/stop recording video without a phone or RC connected. Hopefully dji will add this!
I obviously need more practice or wear a Michael Jackson glove for my Spark to pay more attention. Frustrating when it behaves nothing like this video - mine just stares at me - giving me the finger no doubt.
Another note... If you lower the Spark to low (inches from the ground) and recognition is lost, plan on simply being an observer till it lands on its own.

I tried these mode on today finally and they all did work, although as others said it's pretty hit and miss. And what is the point anyway of taking these selfies this way? They are limited to 1440x1080 in Gesture mode! This is clearly just a beta. Someday this will work better, I hope with this hardware. I was hoping for a bit better performance so I could at least show these features off to friends as intelligent stuff in a cheap consumer drone. But I think they would laugh at me for buying it instead. I think I'll sell mine since my Mavic is great.

What happens when someone is taking over your drone with hand gestures? Is the drone listening to the remote controller, or does it listen to that wrong person?
I would NOT fly it over water. Spark does not always respond to hand gestures. Mine went into a hover about 10 feet off the ground and I had to wait for the battery to die to land it.

You need to download the photos from the SD card. This can be done with Spark running (not flying) via app. Go to "photos" and select "download". There you go - full resolution. Had to figure it out, too, with the videos.
Right. Actually, it goes like this..... Point towards face and push button twice. Lights blink red and nothing happens, try again, lights blink red, try about 70 more times in different light conditions, lights blink red. After 73rd try, it actually takes off out of your palm!! Hope you’re happy with that because gestures don’t work at all. Not one single time. Thanks for your money though👍

The photo shown in the tutorial wasn't taken by Spark. This is DSLR quality. And the same goes for Apple and every other consumer electronics company: the photos that are claimed to have been taken with iPhone by the average consumer that are shown in Apple's ads, were actually pro DSLR shots taken by pro photographers and edited with software. I own not one but three DJI Spark drones, and DJI doesn't only show you the bright side of the product, but they also fake an ideal error free world where every operation goes smoothly and the people appear happy and excited about this sci-fi level tech. Why don't they explain how the drone lands wherever it thinks of as the home point, causing me to run to catch it or land it manually. Why don't they tell their customers that attaching the prop guards adds weight and spoils the flight duration, responsiveness of the drone, flying speed, wind resistance, and other factors, making me decide to stop using them or any other pieces that attach to the drone? Why don't they explain how I lose signal completely between the drone and the remote before reaching 100 meters of flight hight, and also lose signal when flying at a near distance? Why don't they explain how the drone flew horizontally until it crashed immediately after takeoff? The list just goes on and on. I'm not saying that Spark is a bad drone, because it's not, but please consumer electronics companies be honest when demonstrating your products and refer to the cons and not just the pros. That's why we should watch tech reviews before we buy.
Don't buy this drone for this feature, it doesn't work for shit, honest to God it'll take off and move left to right that's it! The fly away feature works once out of ten times.

Sometimes when I try to palm land it just flys away with the horrified look on its face.
Mine works;it does have a little delay though, so that my hand doesnt block my face 90% of the time.

I would think you would want a drone to do more than hover near you. Hand gestures must have a limited range if so what is it?

I think you can turn it off using the phone controls. They can't really do much, and all of the photos they take will be transferred to your phone.
You might wanna talk to a therapist about that fear.

If Spark's LEDs blink red, then yellow, then show steady green, then blink red twice, then yellow three times, it's just fucking with you.

rigel25 yes, it can record you while you are moving. you must do it through the app though.
The waving function doesn't work well. I've only got it to work once out of trying over 50 times
