Continous autofocus with video DOES work using the MC-21 and Sigma Art lenses - with the Sigma fp. Also, regarding Tosvus' comment below about the teleconverters not working with the MC-21 - they do, with the Sigma fp. -Tom
Please note that for those interested in using the adapter with either the TC-1401 or TC-2001 teleconverters, it is an unusable combination. The problem is that when the teleconverter is attached, the Panasonic camera thinks it is an aps-c lens and drops the resolution, disables 6K photo mode and high resolution mode etc. Sigma seems unwilling to correct it, just stating it is not a supported combination (really, this is pretty weak considering it is an official L-Mount adapter from Sigma, official Sigma Teleconverters, used with official Sigma lenses in the Sport, Art and Contemporary categories. If someone has connections either at Sigma to correct their flawed implementation, or at Panasonic so Panasonic can open up to select manually if we want aps-c crop, please do so.

Is it possible to make an adaptor for RF glass on an L-mount body? I suspect it is not possible due to the very short distance needed between the RF lens and the sensor.
Hi, I have a question for you : The optical quality of canon lenses with mc21 remains the same as on canon cameras? ( I use the mc11 and I think the optical quality remains fantastic)
However, sometimes also with no lens elements, for example using canon lenses to m4/3 cameras, I found a significant degradation... Maybe due to a bad adaptor ( but also with viltrox m1)
@@85mattia It's possible, because the lens was originally designed for FF, which has much lower pixel density compared to MFT. High pixel density demands much higher lens sharpness than lower pixel density, if similar result are to be expected.

@@mattisulanto As i told you with metabones my g80 focuses by the end of the push of the shutter button , instantly ! faster than my canon 5d mk3 ! check it yourself
i have seen many videos with the sigma mc 21 adapter and at one with a canon 24-70 mk2 the autofocus is much much faster ... that means there is software compatibility , or from the sigma or from panasonic or from both of them , so they can sell L mount lenses ...different autofocus system would not be such a major problem .. a bit of delay ok , but this is like someone doing it on purpose ...sorry because i am strict and sincere but i have bought the S1 and while i am waiting for it, i did a better search at network and bothers me a lot that focus tracking is bad and the most important with the use of Sigma adapter the autofocus is unacceptable slow for a professional camera ...
can you please made a new review of the sigma adapter because after the S1 firmware update the focus with my canon lens is significantly faster and more reliable at people / animal mode ... so it's was not only different autofocus type ; ) ...
Thank you so much for letting us know that there are 2 versions. I accidentally bought SA version and tried to fit cannon lense and wasted so much time (and scratched both mount and lense). Feels so stupid now 😵
I'm sorry to hear about your mistake.
First thing I did was remove the tripod mount. Oops 😬
Sigma MC-21 is not compatible with current Leica L mount cameras.
You can still use the Novoflex adaptor on Leica SL but manual focus only! With MC-21 you get "Please update lens firmware"
@@ebreckpo6563 Sure, any manual adapter will work.
@@mattisulanto the Novoflex SL/EOS is not a manual adaptor, it transmits the lens exif information and you can adjust the aperture electronically with the camera dials. Autofocus used to work on some Leica SL firmwares. With the latest Leica SL firmware it still works but manual focus only.
Perhaps of topic but I did some quick experimenting with some available L mount glass.
On Panasonic S1 (fw 1.1)
- Leica L 24-90mm "kit" lens no problem on the S1 (have not checked the dual IS yet)
- Leica APS-C (TL lenses) 18mm f/2.8 and 23mm f/2.0 native AF performance but aps-c crop.
- other manual focus glass (Nikkor AiS, Leica M mount,...) most of them works fine, have not tried the wider angle lenses.
- Sigma MC-21 as stated in the review
- Novoflex SL/EOS adaptor transmission of exif, f stop, manual focus only.
Leica SL
- Panasonic 24-105 f/4.0 works but some hesitation in focussing (will retest as a new lens fw is released for the Pany 24-105)
- Panasonic 50mm f/1.4 some hesitation, for half the price of the Summilux L 50mm a fantastic lens...
- Novoflex SL/EOS manual focus only on latest SL firmware
- Sigma MC-21 "Please update lens firmware" camera freezes
Leica CL (APS-C)
- Panasonic 24-105 f/4 works but you receive a warning that the lens uses more power and will drain your battery (same behaviour as with Leica 24-105), some hesitation in focussing
- Panasonic 50mm f/1.4 no problem some hesitation in focussing but focus accuracy is spot on.
- Novoflex SL/EOS not tested
- Sigma MC-21 same as SL not working.
These are of course my own opinions. The Panasonic S1 is one of the better mirrorless full frame camera's I have used to date, excellent EVF, good IBIS and very good sensor output, correct metering even with non native lenses. I am not a sports- or videographer. Although size/weight wise comparable to a pro-grade DSLR. Looking forward for more affordable native glass. An excellent camera for using vintage, manual focus lenses. The current lens lineup is limited. The 50mm is a statement, the 24-105 f/4.0 is an excellent all rounder. The 70-200mm f/4.0 not used/tested.
With my best regards, and looking forward to your next video.
@@ebreckpo6563 Thanks for that comprehensive comment.
Very good Vdo
Thank you.

😀
so much talking and not a single word about the weight. Thanks for nothing.
Thanks for watching anyway😀 Sigma website is a good source of info too and it takes about 39 seconds to check the specs that are important for you.
