I've been a licensed HAM Operator since 1989, have many radios, including HTs, and I love my TD-H8. I finally got around to getting my GMRS license just a few weeks ago and the TD-H8 comes in _handy._ I also bought a Wouxun KG-1000 Plus that's a fantastic GMRS radio.

You can disable the intermittent green blink of the top LED with a setting delightfully labeled "Breath Led", setting 43 on the radio, or "Breath Bed" (?) in the bluetooth app. Cool translation artifact for something we'd more likely call a heartbeat in the west 😂

I bet it’s a hold over from Apple laptops. The heartbeat led on those pwm’s on and off so as not to be distracting. (It was cool and novel at the time). It was call a breathing led and the Chinese borrowed it. Thanks!! I’ll be changing that today.

Hi Julian. I guess that's your name sir.. Anyway, I just found you. I just purchased my GRMS license about a month ago and I have two tid radios already. The cheaper version, but I was able to talk to my buddy at 4.3 miles in a wooded and semi urban area with no problem. So, I am thinking of getting my HAM license or at least the technician license and I like it that this radio can do that too and be unlocked which is great if you need frequencies for some type of SHTF emergencies. Plus, this thing I believe unlocked is 10 watts or more anyway.
Good video sir and I subscribed.

I think 10 watts exceeds the FCC RF exposure guidelines for an HT, but I'm sure the far east brands will advertise it as such. Good video man. I just followed your link, and I have to admit that, that is an impressive price point for everything that radio offers. Might be time to add to the collection.

Good point! I'll have to look up the RF exposure guidelines and see. Did you see me get zapped in the A36 HT video? nice little RF burn there. Right?! That's a lot of value with some of those Amazon bundles.

I believe it is 5 watts. the concern is RF directly into your eye opposite the antenna held up to your face. @@JuliansRandomProject

Once it is fully unlocked can you use gmrs in Ham (not transmitting) frequencies at the same time without switching between modes?

Thanks for the comprehensive review. Would you add a link to your particular 771 antenna recommendation.

Glad it helped. I bought this 5 pack of antennas, they've worked well. amzn.to/3R7JsqO

Funny mine shows between 7 and 11 watts. I don’t no if your equipment is calibrated well or mine isn’t.

I have 3 meters that are within 20% of each other. The Motorola test set was calibrated a number of years ago, I truust it the most. I bet if I checked all the bands I would find a 9-10 watt one in there :)

Can someone explain to me what's the Difference Between the H8-Gen2 & the TD-H8 gen2 please?

Should be the same. I'd buy from amazon to guarantee you get the right one.

If you download the PC software zip they include tools to adjust the power and you could get 15 watts tx out of this radio

With a value of 255 I can't get it to go above 6W on "High". I can lower it as expected down to mWs. I figured it would have been set at the factory below 255 a bit to align at 10W. You getting anything different?

@@JuliansRandomProject yes my qt/dqt is 355 and I can get it to 9 Watts.

@@JuliansRandomProject I just reviewed my screenshots of before I started and after and it appears when I opened the software it was set to 2:55 and then after I read from the radio it changed it to 3:55 I haven't applied the latest update as I wanted to tinker with this first so the latest update may change things... I saved the settings so I can install the update and see if it changes...

How so? Did you adjust settings till you got a power test of 15w?
