Morocco, with its roots as an Amazigh country, is situated in Mediterranean Africa, also known as North Africa. While Morocco is geographically located in Africa, it does not represent the entire continent. Therefore, it is important to avoid viewing Morocco through an exclusive "African" lens or labeling it as "modern Africa," as this title could imply that the entire continent, totally, has only recently achieved "modernization." Or that "Africa" just recently joined the "civilized" world or that Africa is an "island" Ofc, since this does not apply on other continents either.
It is therefor, with all due respect, essential to note that this title, "Modern Africa," does not accurately depict the Moroccan context and could perpetuate the mistaken stereotype that "Africa" as a whole was characterized by backwardness or lack of modernity until recently, which is not the case for Morocco. Morocco boasts a long-standing civilization and has made significant contributions to progress and development in various fields throughout history.
Additionally, it is worth noting that Morocco should not be classified as a mere intermediary between Africa, Europe, and the "Arab world" I have spoken to many individuals who, prior to arriving or visiting the country, expected Morocco to conform to certain stereotypes, such as being an Arab nation (with a desert landscape) or as "African" country.(the stereotype of povery) When these expectations are not met, some people tend to attribute everything they see to "European influences" or colonialism. However, this perspective is incorrect.
The culture of Morocco is ancient and unique, influenced by the diverse Mediterranean regions surrounding it and rooted in Islamic (Al Andalus) traditions. Everything you experience in Morocco is authentic and indigenous to the country. The Moroccan culture has evolved within its own distinct context. Morocco stands as its own entity, representing its own identity. While Morocco bears (indigenous Amazigh)genetic, cultural, and historical connections to Iberia, including Al-Andalus(less than 8 miles seperated), it does not encompass the entirety of the African continent, the whole MENA region, or the entire Mediterranean region. Please forgive me if this may sound harsh, as this was not my intention, but this was very important to share(again) to help people understand Morocco more. I thank you for sharing this lovely content, and a warm welcome to Morocco ❤️

I spent 4 nights in Casablanca - I'm still here - this is my last night here. People told me not to come here because the city is ugly and dangerous - after hearing that I booked 4 night here, to see for myself
Did you feel safe in Casablanca? I have many Moroccan colleagues here in the Netherlands, they come from Northern Morocco (Nador) and they always say that Casablanca is the Birmingham or Marseille of Morocco in terms of safety lol.

@@justinds6345Not at all! Especially when it comes to the tourists. Your colleagues cannot judge a place where they didn't even live, that's their thoughts not their experiences and personally i feel more safe in Casablanca than many other Cities.
Casablanca is the New York of USA , there is much more beauty than dangerous neighborhoods. And if you go to those neighborhoods in any city of the World you risk a lot, but it doesn't make a city a dangerous one, or recommend to erase it from the list of cities to visit @justinds6345
