Sam, glad you are doing better. Too bad you couldn't be at Crick but that would take a lot of strength you might not have had yet. I Hope Tim did well with his stand and sold lots of games. I'm sure Tim met lots and lots of narrowboat vloggers!
Yet another lovely video. Thank you! We lived in Aylesbury for a few years in the 80s and early 90s, so the 3 Locks pub was well known to us! Tring was close by, of course, so we appreciate being reminded how lovely it is, especially the Natural History Museum! We have had the Chesterfield Canal at the bottom of our garden for 30 years now and it would be great if you kept chugging all the way up here!
Hi Sam and Tim. Sam, sending you my warmest wishes for a complete speedy recovery following your Op. Your looking really good on today's Vlog. A nice calming cruise, with many interesting boats. Tring looked really nice. I traveled twice a day thru Tring on the train for nearly 20 years, going to London/work, but today on your Vlog, is the first time I have seen Tring's town center!. Thank you. Always love the stats. Looking forward to your "Crick" Vlog. Saw Tim briefly on Paul and Anthony's Vlog this weekend. It must be really nice when all the boaters and fans meet up. Have a lovely week. Take Care.
As a guitar play, there is something about the look, feel, and name (besides ‘String’ and ‘Ring’) of Tring that speaks to me, but I can’t put my finger on it. I’ll have fret about it some
Taxidermy always looks a bit weird, but at least that lion didn't look like the Gripsholm lion in Sweden! (Plus side - the awesome boat cruise to get from Stockholm to Gripsholm Castle - the castle was pretty cool, but the Lion!)
@@chuggingalong According to someone (tour guide? People on the boat? Signage? I don't remember where I learned it, but I actually saw it in person) the actual lion was given as a gift to the king, but of course didn't fare Swedish winters well and died. He had it skinned so they could taxidermy it, but something happened that ended up with the skin sitting in a trunk for years and years... and by the time they had it stuffed & mounted, the skin was either deformed or the guy doing it had never seen a lion or both - so he used various sigils and pictures of rampant lions to go by. The glass eyes are just glass... with the pupils painted on (really poorly). It sits up in the attic away from the "tasteful" displays of wealth in the castle, but because of the internet, it's apparently become a huge draw as the single worst-piece of taxidermy in the world.
I thought you'd been absent for a while. Hope it wasn't too serious Sam, you're looking well anyway. Thanks for never failing to make me feel homesick guys.
The "rolling hills" you mention are the Chilterns. As you can see, the West Coast Main Line, the canal and the M1 all take advantage of the same gap in them. You are just about at the end of the Chilterns. Dunstable Downs to your North-east is all that's left of them in that direction, but they stretch a long way to the South-west, down to Oxfordshire and the Thames Valley.
Ah thank you very much Martin. That makes sense about dodging hills. We bought our boat at Whilton Marina on the Grand Union Canal,. We were a stones throw away from the M1, WCML and the A5. Thanks for your comment, keep chugging
Hi, Great to meet Tim at Crick. I was boarding school in Tring when I was 6, I am 68 now! I used to go to the museum lots of times, did you see the 'dressed fleas'? Regards,
Cheaper to heat a smaller boat 😊 leaving more cash for other essentials like food 😂 I envy you your wonderful floating home. Keep having fun and thanks for vlogs 😊
Lovely video. Tring is one of my favourites too. I grew up in Chesham about 7 miles away. As kids we spent many a wet Sunday on the museum. Hope you got to see the dressed fleas!
Sorry to hear about your op but glad you are on the mend! You need to look after yourselves. Great vlog as always. Lemon drizzle cake looked yummy! We love the Grand Union too but double locks are very hard going on your own 😊. Loved the video of Tim falling in!! And I love my crocs - best boat shoes ever xxxx
Good to see you back and we hope that Sam makes a fast recovery after her op . Really enjoyed the sites and places you visited and the countryside views are goregeous . It seems that every boat owner has at some time got to fall into the canal , or you're not a real boatman / woman .
Hi Sam and Tim, I'm sorry to hear you needed surgery Sam but glad to see you are on the mend. Looks like Tim is in charge of the locks now. This was a beautiful cruise, the town looks like a great place to visit. I wonder if it's a nice place to live? As always thank you for sharing.
Sorry to hear about the need for an operation, glad to know recovery is well under way. On your previous vlog I left a couple of off-topic notes: 1) What sounds like the best solution so far to the narrowboad loo problems: an incinerating loo. Plus 2) A possible zero-carbon coal substitute [from the UK] for those with multi-fuel stoves.
Hi Alan, we'll have a look out for your previous comment. The zero carbon coal does sound good but we're still using a diesel stove. Might not be the best option with the current prices. Thanks for your comment. Keep chugging :)
So good to see you both back on TH-cam and enjoying your boating again. Sam we wish you all our very best for a full return to health. We love watching your vlogs! xox Narrowboat Liberty Crew (Rob, Carol and Tilly).
There you are……guys sorry if I have missed some but nearly snuffed it….been in hospital 16 weeks with Covid…long Covid now…home but on oxygen and struggling to breathe but slowly winning.Glad Sam is ok. Loved the vlog….
Ah! So sorry to hear that Morten. We're really happy to see you back in the comments and great to hear you're out the hospital. Hope you're getting back to doing what you love soon! Keep Chugging!
Saw you at the vlogs of others at Crick....or how ever it's spelled. Glad you, Sam, are on the mend, . I think your boat size is just perfect. It limits the amount of crap you accumulate ( I say this looking around my bedroom and thinking about the rest of the house and how much my. Girls will have to deal with in the not to far future. I enjoy your vlogs and as a teacher( long ago) you have the perfect setting...happy trails..
Still want to come.. still want to narrow.. but I want the shortest narrow boat I can get.. may like the red one at beginning of video or a pink life boat
@@chuggingalong I'm caravaning in Philippines.. making my way to 🇬🇧 to see my daughter... she watch you also. But think I should just van when I get there.. 🤔 😅 😏 🙃...I'm getting a boat..
Hi Tim & Sam keep a look out for WB Stella we are joining the grand union tomorrow at Brentford we love to give you a toot when we see you. Ps we have the T shirt and the argy bargy game. Take care, Richard & Jean
We had no idea Sam had an operation until this vlog. We both hope she is recovering well. Tim, I presume all locks of 'Lock Vegas' will be by you. Can't have Sam pushing heavy lock gates or winding the paddles. I had noted a bit of footage from Crick with the game sales going on. Sam was not there so I thought she was off having a break looking around the show. It seems I was mistaken.
Hi Sam & Tim You keep referring to double locks. They are not double locks if you have a widebeam. We have wide locks and narrow locks. You also seem to cast off before starting the engine. This is unsafe as you may have an engine problem and be required to move the boat in an emergency. Run the engine for 2 minutes before setting off so that it warms up and circulates its oil. Lastly, Tim, "people who met my family and I" is wrong. To test this try "people who met I" and you can see the error. As the object of the verb, it should be "people who met my family and me". What was it that you teach? Good vlogs. Why did you miss out the Aylesbury and Wendover Arms? Jeff
It is a good thing you are far inland, putting any food item on the roof (deck) would be instantly have flown away in the beak of several Sea Gulls. mind you they would have left you one of their calling cards. sigh
I did like the Pullman boat, very classy. The Natural History museum looked very good, and free!
I do hope Sam makes a full and speedy recovery and they do say that you are not a proper boater until you have fallen in the canal, so Tim, welcome.
Haha! That's true. Thanks Keith 😁👍👍🏾 Keep chugging
Glad you’re on the mend Sam 👍

Taxidermy always looks a bit weird, but at least that lion didn't look like the Gripsholm lion in Sweden! (Plus side - the awesome boat cruise to get from Stockholm to Gripsholm Castle - the castle was pretty cool, but the Lion!)
