      Tricky subject especially if we're talking about younger kids. Tiff might be a better person to ask on this one. It starts with parenting; if you let your kid blow off hours playing games then there's probably some lack of discipline, communication, or structure in the house. One of the best ways to deal with this is getting them to join sports/martial arts/any physical activities that can help them develop friends who already have more active lifestyles. Peer groups are a huge influence here.
      Another slightly more direct method (which you can employ too if you're trying to cut down your own usage), is simply leaving the phone at home and going out to do something. Can be anything from walking, hiking, to even just going out to eat. But not having a phone forces you to unplug be present with whoever you're with, or wherever you are.

    In California its 21 for both hand guns and rifles. To get any firearm you need to get a FSC (firearm safety certificate) by taking a test. then you need to get the firearm which is a whole new process. To buy a hand gun you need a current license, an fsc, and a secondary proof of residency, and the secondary proof all varies depending on if you have a REAL id or a Federal limits apply id, and then wait the 10 day waiting period that goes through to the ATF and DOJ. Now in Cali you have to do a background check for ammunition. California has the strictest gun laws in the world.

    The first thing to recognize in the argument for gun control is that there is no one single catalyst which causes violence and murder. It's NUMEROUS issues in society, in one's upbringing, dysfunction in the family involving abuse across the spectrum, which causes alcohol, legal and illegal drug addiction (and everything else which people can get addicted to..), mental health issues, the lack of education or quality of education in society, governments around the world not accepting responsibility for the violence and murder that they create and perpetuate, the banking system which creates debt and the scarcity mindset, big pharma and mind altering pharmaceuticals which are prescribed to MILLIONS of American on a regular basis, to just scratch the surface. NEVER in all the gun control arguments have I heard ANY rational discussion about these issues. It's all about "BAN THE GUNS.." I mean you have to be brain dead to not understand that violence and murder have existed long before guns were invented.
    There's also the ignorance on the effects of prohibition in history. How did the prohibition of alcohol work out in the 1920's..?? It did the EXACT OPPOSITE of its intended purpose and more so, made organized criminals WEALTHY and POWERFUL beyond imagination. How is the prohibition of drugs working out..? Organized criminals and gangs making BILLIONS off of the drug trade. And North America is the largest consumer of legal/illegal drugs and alcohol. So what would happen if guns were banned..?? (theoretically) The only people who would have guns would be the police, government and criminals. Who would be profiting from the black market which is created overnight..?? Police, government and criminals. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see this. So what is the ultimate objective for those politicians calling for gun control..?? Control over the population specifically because of the economic situation in America which is deteriorating. How else can you rationally explain the logic when it doesn't make sense..?? The argument is that "guns are bad..", so people trust the GOVERNMENT with ALL OF THEM..!??! Right.. Governments are responsible the most people killed in the last century and weapons of ALL types were used across the spectrum.. The term is called "democide".
    In America, more people are beaten to death with bare hands, blunt objects and stabbed to death than by being shot to death, but where are the facts in the anti-gun narrative..??
    What can be done to deter violence and murder..? Start with the banking system which creates the debt and scarcity which creates the stress in people who aren't making it in life and causing the dysfunction in the family unit. That is the root cause of addiction issues as well, not just someone's personality. If ALL people can make a living and not worry about the future without worrying about the value of the dollar plummeting, that would go a long way to alleviate the mental health and addiction issues in the country, along with the abuse in the family unit, whether it be verbal, physical, emotional/psychological or sexual. You can see why society is unstable with those problems which are common.
    What about other countries with strict gun control..?? People use example of other countries such as Britain or Australia but the fact is that guns still exist there. Also ignored is the overall violent crime rate which is higher than the US. Is it better to get stabbed to death than get shot..?? Once again, violence and murder have existed long before guns..
    Another fact is that the stats used in America are skewed. Anti-gunners routinely say that there are "30000 murders a year in America involving guns.." That is a blatant lie. That number includes ALL homicides which includes justified killings by police and civilians defending themselves, as well as SUICIDES. Minus those factors and the murders number about 7000-8000 a year, which is still high, but no where near the 30000 cited by those who are anti-gun. So how can you deter suicide..?? Not by banning guns that's for sure. Japan was the country with highest suicides rates in the world and guns are banned there. The mere existence of guns is not the root cause of suicide, it's merely the tool being used.
    This is just scratching the surface of the root causes of the problems. So what is the cause..?? My opinion is ultimately the quality of life, family life and upbringing which is influenced by the economic situation in the country and world as a whole. The economic situation is the root cause for addictions which leads to the dysfunction and abuse we see in the family unit. That leads to violence because of the pent up stress in all the situations described and ultimately murder in the extreme cases. All of that affects the quality of education or lack of in one's life. That is what causes generational dysfunction in families which creates a vicious cycle and ingrains mental illness genetically. And we haven't even gone in depth about the banking system or how government causes and perpetuates violence and murder..

    Thanks for talking about this stuff and while i don't always agree with your opinions, it is important to hear them and think about them to try and see if was something i missed in my own. Keep on going with these topics guys, you are doing a great job. As for the prompt you guys asked for:
    So i think a big part of the culture that has changed is like what Joe mentioned about how the internet age has made bullying become a 24/7 issue. We probably need to address with young people about how to deal with people on the internet (and in general helping them understand that not everything they online read is true). These young men are probably disturbed by some circumstance of people being mean to them or feeling like others have it so much better than they do and in the past there wasn't a way for people to be so antagonized. I think trying to tackle this set of issues is one part of the solution to mass shootings but there obviously isn't clear way to handle that. Maybe a general rule is to just talk to kids about things they saw in their life and have it be a judgement free environment so they don't close up from feeling shame.
    As for the government's side of things, I think we should probably implement a training certificate in order to be allowed to own your gun. High powered rifles could require many hours of training on safety and usage whereas shotguns/rifles would require less. If someone were to not pass their certification, their gun would be placed on hold until they did pass it. This would give people who really want their guns a way to prove it as well as give assurance to everyone else that this person does know how to operate their gun safely. And if after a while, they figure that they don't want to have a gun with the certification they are going for, they could sell it back and go about choosing some other option.
    I also feel like there needs to be a more complete system for buying guns because certain states having looser laws creates weird loopholes that can make the information about gun owners very convoluted and maybe people who shouldn't be in possession of one harder to find. I think there is one loophole in gun buying where gun shows don't need to go through the same kinds of background checks that stores do. Stuff like that should be probably wrapped up and that could help a great deal.

    • @SantomPh
      @SantomPh 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why should a civilian own a high powered assault rifle? They are not even good defensive weapons.

    • @austinblackburn8095
      @austinblackburn8095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SantomPh You obviously know nothing about guns because for one there is no difference between an assualt rifle and a regular rifle when it comes to how deadly they are. The only thing different about an assualt rifle is how it looks so that just makes the laws Banning them stupid. Also assualt rifles are not high powered at all a gun commonly sighted as an assualt rifle is an ar 15 which in it's common 5.56 ammo isn't really able to used to humanly hunt anything bigger than a beaver. Also how do you know if they are good defense weapons you probably never even owned a gun or if you have you never shot a so called assualt rifle because if you did you would they are far easier to aim accurately and would be able to defend against a large group of people far easier than a handgun. Finally as to your why a civilian should be able to own a weapon like that its so we as a country don't end up like China, Soviet Russia, or Vietnam. So that each and every citizen has the means to fight against tyranny.

      The mandatory training for a gun isn't the worst idea in the world coming from someone who is a second amendment advocate, but it effects poor people far more than anyone else who potentially need it the most. Because not only would it cost money they may not have if they are working to jobs it would be hard to find the time to take the training courses seeing they would likely open on weekdays during business hours which one would have to work. I personally don't think it's fair to prevent some single mother in a dangerous neighborhood that can't find the time or money to take the course so that she can get a gun to protect herself and her family. Also if we were to implement a mandatory gun safety course we would only need one a gun is a gun no matter the type and they all function at a base level pretty much the same as far as what you have to do to safely use one. My biggest problem about the mandatory gun license is that when I ask myself what would it help with all I can think of is it might reduce the amount of accidental gun deaths by maybe just a little but even then not much. It like wouldn't stop a criminal or mass shooter from getting a gun as long as the test was reasonable and didn't cost thousands of dollars and months of certification. Also the gun show loophole was pretty much a lie to push gun control laws here is video from one of my personal favorite second amendment advocates that explains it better than I can

    When the mass shooting in Tasmania, Australia occurred, all states within the country agreed to completely overhaul gun laws and ownership of shotguns and semi automatic weapons.
    Australia has 28 day waiting periods, thorough background checks, and a requirement to present a "justifiable reason" to own a gun. Self protection is not accepted as a justifiable reason.
    I grew up in Sydney, Australia and now live in Wellington, New Zealand where laws regarding the Arms Act were swiftly amended after the mosque shootings in Christchurch earlier this year.
    On this side of the world, we cannot grasp that this issue continues to be a topic of debate in America. At what point will the citizens and your government make the decision to say that enough is enough?

    • @AdamSmith-gs2dv
      @AdamSmith-gs2dv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The criminal/mental health institution records are computerized, it doesn't take 30 days to search through them like it did before computers at most it will probably take a day. Also the right to bear arms is a RIGHT and that right is NOT connected to being involved in a Militia as ruled in the SCOTUS case DC vs Heller. For the US to do what Australia has done it would take a Constitutional amendment to repeal the second amendment. To do this you would have to get a super majority of Congress to a agree to such a proposal and 3/4 of the 50 states or 3/4 of the states calling for a constitutional convention (which btw has NEVER happened in the 240+ years of US history). Simply put it's NOT going to happen.

    Another fact: Where I live (in Vancouver, Canada), the OFFICIAL average response time for an EMERGENCY 911 call is 9:30 minutes.. So it takes police about 10 minutes to respond to your emergency IF you can make it to a phone in the first place. If you're fighting for your life and can't phone 911, you're out of luck. Unless someone else has your back.
    Anther fact ignored: Upwards of 2 MILLION Americans use their legally owned firearms for self defense on an annual basis. That doesn't even include the times where the crime wasn't reported. (where the perp runs after seeing the victim pull out a gun..)
    Think about what happens in emergency situations during natural disasters.. You're out of luck if you're not self sufficient in that way. There are so many scenarios which don't make sense to anti-gunners, it's almost comical if it weren't reality.

Texas and Florida is coming up with solutions where experienced school staff members can go through training to become armed school marshals, like we have secret armed air marshals that sit on random flights. Even if a school has one secret armed staffer to defend against a live shooter, return fire could instantly stop an attack on the spot. The shooter in this case would suicide or run away.

    The solution for guns is a change of gun culture of encouraging law abiding people to be militia men and act in the common defense if need be.
    We went from a culture of normalized guns and more people that hunt and such to independence and self defence, (which I don't oppose.)
    People with certain sensibilities will not support people carrying scary black rifles and think its absurd to carry an AR15 in Walmart to thwart a possible mass shooter.
    But I rather have some else other than the mass shooter in that situation with a gun. Sounds crazy to some but the courts will likely side with that over gun control. So society and history will continue on despite their views.
    Quickly well regulated means to maintain at a set standard. In plain English, you must have well functioning weapons that's it.
    Militia is every law abiding adult.

    personally i think most of the problem is how much attention people and the news give the shooters. most of them all their life they lacked attention, and by us giving them attention it gives them a reason to commit a shooting because they’ll think they’ll finally get attention and their message across to the country if not the world

    Well here's how i see it with the whole gun control debate. The whole reason for the 2nd is in the case of a tyrannical government, so we the people can "overthrow" it the government.
    Now where I stand, I feel that all the gun control laws are pretty stupid. If someone wanted a gun they'll get it. Anyone who has a gun will most likely keep there guns even if there were "confiscations". There are so many points with gun control and the debate itself that I can speak of, its just pretty dumb.

    I always thought people can change, but some people just don't. And if you're bringing up something that happened 10 years ago, it probably means you have something up your ass that you can't let go of.
    I also think you have to be in deep denial and not reflective to not change toxic behaviors.

    You know that their 1 gun store in Mexico and most illegal guns are from the USA . So I think putting a code on each gun is a start to a solution.

    • @austinblackburn8095
      @austinblackburn8095 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean a serial number? All guns in the USA already have one unless it's homemade and even then gun laws wouldn't stop that from happening. Also the codes wouldn't prevent anybody from getting the gun illegally all it does is if the serial number wasn't removed they can track a gun back to it's owner if it was stolen or used in a crime, and the crime one isn't even that helpful because most gun crimes are committed with stolen guns. If you want guns to stop coming from America to Mexico the only way is to have better boarder security.

    For me, i'm all for guns, no ban on guns what soever. But I'd like to see much stricter gun methods of getting weapons. If you actually look up how to get a gun in chicago, it's honestly not that hard. Do better at background checks, mental health checks, hell you could create more jobs having more psychiatrists in the field doing evaluations for guns. If that still fails, there's nothing you can do about it, but that's about as far as i would go. The fact is, there are bad people in this world, and if you disarm everyone, those bad folks will get those weapons.

    • @MrPapageorgio
      @MrPapageorgio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I oppose mental checks since it affects poor people the most when they wre most likely to be a victim of crime while the rich will be fine while criminals will continue to trade guns for drugs and such things.
      The burden of proof to show you can't own a gun is on the government, not you to show you should be get permission for a constitutional right.
      As long as a judge hasn't found you to be mentally I'll or you haven't been convicted of a felony or not on the run from the law or are not here illegally or using illegal drugs or not having a restraining order or not been dishonorably discharged from the military then you get the gun transferred to you.
      Lots of reasons you can be denied buying a gun.

    • @Dylamos
      @Dylamos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrPapageorgio IMO that's what tax money should be used for. If our tax dollars are at work paying for the mental health checks then there wouldn't be an issue. It's what health insurance should cover as well. As far as needing permission for a constitutional right, being a mentally weak and ill person should exempt you from owning weapons. Mind you i don't think you're wrong about how it will affect poor communities, but it's as you say. The burden should be on the government, these are merely layers the government could add that doesn't stop anyone but the mentally weak, ill, criminals, etc etc. If it's just one extra step that has the potential to lower mortality rates of guns in this country. Even if it's 1% it's still hundreds of thousands of lives. The criminal problem is a different matter all together.

    • @MrPapageorgio
      @MrPapageorgio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dylamos How is making people go to a doctor and adding layers on us putting the burden of proof on the government? That seems like the complete opposite of the burden being on the government.
      Like I already said if you are found by a judge to be crazy or have been involuntarily committed or have a felony that already prohibits you from buying a gun. That's already checked on a background check. So I don't know what you're getting at there.
      The criminal problem is not a separate thing. Since criminals won't follow these laws and these only affects people least likely to commit crimes. So its very much connected.

    • @Dylamos
      @Dylamos 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrPapageorgio Because the government will have to hire and pay the people doing the evaluations. That's a two way street that adds a layer to the defense of an ordinary citizen. Citizens aren't only there to pay tax, they have as much responsibility to maintain order. What's to fear about going through an evaluation? Finding out you may have issues that could hurt other people? (not saying you, just a tiny example of what evaluations can do) In a sense too, it's protecting the second amendment because they're using our money to make sure we've done everything in our power to prevent jack asses who make kill the immigrants manifesto's from ever getting weapons at least legally. In no way this prevents a law abiding citizens ability to purchase a gun, you perpetually add mental health checks.
      The criminal case is a layer as well, never said it wasn't. It's just a separate case analogy that shouldn't be a top contender. It's a separate problem in the same realm. In the first place i don't say ban guns, i just say lets do better at making sure the wrong people get them. The past few shootings have been done through legal means even though there were tell tale signs that this was likely. Those kids also weren't criminals, they just happen to be very troubled youth.

    • @MrPapageorgio
      @MrPapageorgio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dylamos So taxing me and making me go to the doctor of some kind adds defense to me? How does making me jump thru hoops make me safe?
      A test doesn't just apply to crazy people but *everyone* so I think its disingenuous to say it will just burden crazy people.
      Every amendment is treated the same even if the 2nd is more immediate dangerous. So tests for voting or qualifying to have an attorney to defend you or getting a permit to protest is unconstitutional.
      Its just adds barriers so I can defend myself and my family
      If you don't make concrete threats, having disgusting opinions doesn't preclude you from owning a gun. Kinda wish it did. But I'm not the arbiter of wrong think. And I'm half Mexican and whaled and cried when I heard at the time 20 people were dead. So you're very much preaching to the choir.
