I thought the same when I first watched the movie about it having no re-watchability factor. Then I watched it five times last year. There was something about the predicaments of the characters and the overall tone that kept drawing me back.

      Interesting. Similar life events?

Kind of. I think the characterisations and where they are in life speak to some great universal truth about the male psyche. Or maybe I'm just as f☆☆☆ed up as Miles and Jack, who knows? 😄

You say you’re not going to come back to it; I first watched it (next to Bottleshock) back around 2007-2008 and I liked it (much better than Bottleshock) but I didn’t really think of coming back to it. Then back around 2015-2016, well-ensconced in my 30s, I went back and watched it again and loved it, as it was starting to hit a bit closer to home. Now, 2022 is my third time watching it and I still really appreciate this film. It’s definitely a movie that I am able to keep coming back to.

It 'sticks with me' - 19 years later. I feel I lived a part of each of these character's lives, in a 20-something sort of way, a decade before watching this quiet gem. There's just something deeply human about this little film that draws you to reach for it again and again, like your favorite secret budget pinot.

I might have been in the wrong mindset when I watched it. I'm very willing to give it another shot.

There's a personal connection for me on many levels. But I think I'd still have re-watched it several times, (perhaps not as many), even without the connections. Payne is (was?) a master of writing about the mundane every-man and here he shines. This film could totally be about two actual ordinary individuals. Maybe it was, I've never read the book it was based on. It's completely believable as a story, and yet, the characters are still highly entertaining. The performances don't hurt of course.
Giamatti is one of my favorite actors. Not far behind PSH in my opinion, R.I.P. I'll watch just about anything he does a few times, at least. This being one of his finer performances. It is full of nuance. I've seen it at least ten times already.
