I knew Falcom's style in storytelling (remember Trails of Sky FC? same goes to Trails of Cold Steel 1's ending)
so I only play Cold Steel 3 after I bought Cold Steel 4 (and have it downloaded and ready to be played anytime)

i've never been more triggered by a "to be continued" until this game. the way it ends is just EVIL.
This made me buy Sen 4 just after and started playing it... Kondo is a shrewd man.

I love how things got so fucked so quick for everyone at the end of Cold Steel 3 just out of nowhere that was an awesome ending and none of us saw that coming either

Pretty much best ending worst cliffhanger, second would be TOCS1 as it was heartbreaking for Rean to leave his friends behind.

We got a cool looking new Awakener power let’s put that to the te-Nevermind we are escaping. AND THEN COLDSTEEL3 it ended in a way where it’s like All hell breaks lose like the first one but on a much larger scale 3 of your party members is gone for the final part of the dungeon. You become the boss and losses control. A major character gets killed off. MORE character suffer losses. The End of the world is starting. Crow Gains back his consciousness to help stop Rean! 6 of the 7 divine Knights Is About to fight and well……It cuts to the end. LIKE HOLY SHIT that was the biggest tease ever also. Usually when a cliffhanger end for coldsteel and trails in the sky it ends on a note where oh we are leaving?! To Yeah let’s stop at a mid fight

When you make the greatest trance bgm in existence, for what is still one of the best scenes in the entire series
Truly gives you the feel that you lost, and everything the protagonist is doing is futile.
The synth representing the insanity of Rean, the somber piano at 1:23 representing his emotions and the realization that whatever he's doing is wrong... and then the synth taking over again. The feeling of pure desperation and rage this songs exudes... Peak music. Peak gaming.
I like how they brought this back for a dungeon in CS IV.
Yeah, I remember it playing on repeat in the Black Workshop lol (That's why I took my time fighting in there)
For me this track is definitely the most associated with the Black Workshop and the incredible segment that takes place there.
I perfectly undestand Rean. Even when I knew the holy beast shouldn't die, I was so angry with the damn doggo, the millium death, the sword I worked so hard to craft, the damage to Vali-bro that I obliterated him in enraged mode and actually enjoyed the masacre.
The Black Holy Beast isn’t a dog, it’s a turtle. The Mirage Holy Beast mentioned by Roselia is a doggo.

As always, Unisuga delivers another outstanding trance music. The heavy and dramatic melody really fits the situation, and the rhythm is absolutely amazing.
Amazing track, one of my favorites. The transitions between the different sections are so good.
The hype was hearing Towa yell in anger for the first time made me proud

I just finished CSIII and wow... I was not ready for the endgame and the massive cliffhanger ! Even more surprising that the one from CSI !
Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for CS4. CS1 cliffhanger was torture, and this turned it up to 11 lol.

Dear ppl who finished finished CS3 for the first time, how shook are you from the ending
The ending is like Infinity War in the sense that despite their efforts, Class VII failed and the world marched to Doomsday.
But unlike IW, it was a lose-lose situation where even finding alternatives won’t change the outcome. Class VII couldn’t stop the beginning of the end of the world.
I wish there something similar to the “We lost and you weren’t there.” scene in Endgame.

I know it’s no one’s fault (Class VII played into Ozzie’s hands, again) but Rean did kill the Holy Beast with the OZ Sword and caused the Great Twilight.
I loved the ending and the game was fantastic

The Hero, within his Knight of Legend,
Struggled against the Tainted Holy Beast.
But the Beast overwhelmed him,
Pushing the Hero down, dealing grievous harm,
But then the young one helped the Hero.
The young one knocked the beast aside,
Only knocking him aside briefly.
The Beast reared his head back,

Only for the Sister, of Iron Blood, intervened.

Takihiro here turns it upside-down and invokes the mystic yet dark feeling of, again, insanity.
I love how battle-crazed 0:55 is. It's telling you that even though this shit is dangerous, you've got no choice but to face it head on.
Best track in Sen 3 IMO.
Doomsday Trace is such a cool name for a song. It probably refers to the genre of music (trance), but it could also mean ''being in a half-conscious state'', befitting of when it plays.
I so wasn't ready for the ending and the evil, EVIL cliffhanger it left us on, IV couldn't be released soon enough after I finished this.
We'll finally get to hear Sean Chiplock's performance for that legendary moment

Just beat the game yesterday and...Dear...Aidios...this is the first time a game has genuinely made me cry. Sure, my eyes were pretty teary when I finished Trails in the Sky SC and the first Cold Steel, but this has made me straight out cry and wallow in despair. First the Courageous with Toval, Victor, and freaking Olivier who has been with us since the first Trails game (big sad), then Millium (bigger sad), and then when Rean snapped, waterfalls began coming out of my eyes. I honestly considered pressing Alt+F4. I cried for around as long as Rean slashed the Holy Beast, and if I didn't stop myself, I probably would have cried for the rest of the day. I was in quite the depression and I was even shaking for the rest of the day, though (and I still am a bit depressed). Now I can only wait for the English release of Cold Steel IV to know what happens next and see the ray of hope shine through. The Trails series truly has the perfect storytelling and Trails of Cold Steel III is now my favorite game ever (at least until the fourth game comes out).

I played this game for the first time a few months ago on Switch. I have never experienced an ending that made me so sad. I've played all the CS games before this, have watched in depth playthroughs of Zero/Ao and am now finally getting yo experience Sky. But this ending.... man :(

@@Sintakhra It was the best, most epic game I've ever played, and the finale is the most epic finale in anything ever (and "The End of -SAGA-" is the most epic song I've ever heard). I'm saying "was" because I'm currently playing Hajimari (with English Spreadsheet), and that game manages to be even more awesome. What can I say, the newest Trails games always become my most favorite game ever. They just keep getting better and better.

I would, no matter how much Egocedric boasts, he’s still a wimp. Also, Cedric is an Ironblood, yet he has no nickname like White Rabbit (Millium), Scarecrow (Lechter), Icy Maiden (Claire), and Jade Rook (Rufus).

When I saw 6/7 of the divine knights about to fight I was OH WE ARE DOING THIS NOW?! Then it cuts and I’m like NOOOOO
I wasn't ready for this. The good guys had the chance, things were going exactly as they wanted, and victory was just a fingertip away.
....But all of that just got crushed immensely once the Courageous got taken down. Then...Millium...what happened to her was easy enough to emotionally and mentally break Rean. Which was just enough to unleash his orge powers at an uncontrollable state...slaying the Black Holy Beast for revenge. And causing the Great Twilight.
The music is a perfect way to capture the turmoil of Rean's situation. I just...felt heavy yet ironically empty at the same time after everything that just happened.
I haven't felt like this since playing, Okami, Xenoblade Chronicles 1, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky.
Also known as 'You Done Goofed" : The Musical
The title fits well - normal Rean was warning Class VII not to kill the Divine Beast, but as soon as Millium died - Rean killed the Divine Beast and caused the Great Twilight to occur, in his ogre form, (Or rather, with the extra surge of power given by the Great Twilight...His demon form) which can be considered a trance as it's a brief loss of control - since he has conflicting emotions, not just craziness (As evident from his brief moment of hesitation, which allowed for him to be captured)
He also got bit by the Beast (More So Valimar), and I feel like that caused Rean to completely lost control.
@@milesshaw9059 Thinking back, it's shown from how he lost full control of himself and mindlessly slaughtered the Nameless One that he had been engulfed by the Great Twilight since it acts on weaknesses, and he felt like he had failed because 1. Ash shot the emperor, which Rean blamed himself for not noticing sooner, 2. He let Altina walk into a trap that nearly cost her life, and 3. He instead had to witness Millium die, because he was unable to stop the events due to having a broken tachi, leaving himself open, and being subjected to the curse causing him to be fully consumed because of this weakness. It's also kinda hinted at from the fact that Rean felt a surge of power when he was defeated in the Black Workshop, similar to that which happened to the Nameless One when THAT was defeated
Looking more forward to IV than cyberpunk

It's kinda similar to "Lift-off" but more wicked.
It's basically Lift-off (corrupted), it goes from being recognisably Lift-off and then gets thrown into a discordant mess of tritones and other nasty sounding chords to make it look as if the composition itself is getting messed up from Rean's rage.
Why's Trails music so good? I keep seeing this on recommended, heard it a hundred times... but still click whenever I see it lol
Isn't just Trails but Falcom as a hole, for 30 years their in house composers aka Falcom Sound Team J.D.K has been making incredible and memorable ost for their IP's, while Falcom doesn't have the budget like Square Enix they use those recourses on their sound department.

@@MusuriMo I mean it did have it's moments like the black workshop, pantugruel, final fight with mcburn and certain lore revelations. But 85% of the game was a chore with nothing progressing the plot like Act 1 and I hate how they reused the rescue missions from CS2 for entirety of Act 2. Also this game has the problem that there is no consequences or sacrifices made and how they handle the curse in this game was pretty bad. Again just my opinion glad you liked it tho. I'm Hoping that Hajimari will do better once it's out in the west

The birth of the Ashen demon. Fallen hero of erebonia who now must embrace the darkness in order to challenge the rulers of erebonia in order to save it.
That makes him a true hero, not a fallen one. Since everything that happens isn't his fault to begin with.
Valid, since the fact that he was stuck in the trance for around a month hinted at the fact that he wasn't an ogre... the power, mixed with the effects of the Great Twilight turned his power into more of a demon

Nah, if u watched the Scene carefully, you'd have noticed that Cedric was the one who was ordered to kill Altina and use the Sword to slay the beast. Rean was just there at the worst possible Timing.
Nontheless, this was plot and it fits better than having Cedric pulled the Trigger. Rean's sacrifice Role didnt have any more reason to it, since it whole purpose was to shot either the Emporer or Osborne to gave them a Reason to start the War (pretty much Hamel 2.0, insider Job and then Blaming another Faction for it. A "False Flag attack")

I think it's pretty good storywriting to let the Main Character actually lose. He lost dear friends who betrayed him (Millium, Major Clair....Kruger (still can't forgive her...in my Book, even Chairman Irina is one of the bad guys and god do I hate her for her stupid way of revealing the truth about Kruger..), lost the Courageous with 3! very important people in it (and nobody is talking about the other members who where on board..) with Toval, Victor Arseid and Prince Olivert, needs to leave friends behind against terrifying foes (and even hear the on going battle).
Then he had to lead his 3 remaining students into battle against a holy beast, while Altina is in big danger and nobody knows how Ash is.
Than his 3 students get into such a dangerous situation that their Gunda-- ehrm I mean Soldats get pretty much destroyed. Also Valimar, probably one of his closest friends...even if he is "just a big Robot" (for me, Valimar is also a part of Class VII...and I wish for the moment where the whole class, new and old, call for Valimar.... ("Heed OUR call...Valimar the Ashen Knight!!)
gets damaged in a way he never was (parts missing...sword destroyed...). Rean screams in agony while being mauled by the Holy Beast. And the final event that made him completely break is the death of another fellow Class VII comrade who, even when she was an enemy at this point, protected Rean and died for him. The 2nd time a friend dies right infront of him.
And then Rean lost something he always wanted to keep the most....himself. He gave up and unleashed his unholy powers, that he always suppressed with everything he had, and gives in. He let's all his anger lose and litterally ANNIHILATES the holy beast. He even corrups Valimar, who's scream, atleast for me, sounded like he was in Pain while transforming into Oger Valimar.
The funny...but also sad thing is, that it was actually Valimar himself who told Rean to use his Powers, so Valimar could help him to control it and use it wisely....but in the end he could not handle the sheer hate Rean let lose.
Rean lost pretty much everything this day. The bad guys won.
I can't wait for Sen no Kiseki 4. And my god...I will lose my shit when a corrupted and demoralized Rean is the last boss. And I'll also lose my shit when it's Class VII who needs to actually kill him to prevent the worst of the worst. I can see it coming, but I would also like a good ending for this Man...he went through alot...
You are right that it is good writing / The thing is I think our western world (or our big cinema world) has forgotten a little bit about how to write good heroic stories; if you look at ancient Greek and Roman drama, or Norse or Celtic mythology or Shakespeare, heroic characters often lose with regularity and permanency - tragedy is perhaps more grounded in what happens in human nature, being related to our individual aspirations of virtuous acts but common failure to achieve them through fear of the consequences?
The thing is that the Legend of Heroes Trails saga is very conscious of the self reflection on what it means to be a hero, the aspects of action, the relativity of the morality of the choice, the community perceptions of their actions and the consequences for their humanity, even down to how their conflicts will/ or have changed them (especially characters like Arianrhod and Osborne who are past heroes and still heroes/idols to the "villains").
Just to give my 2 cents I actually enjoy stories where the hero or main character or what have you loses. If somebody never loses it becomes boring and predictable. What happened at the end of 3 is more grounded in reality. The hero doesn't always win, tragedy can come faster than a lightning strike. In an instant things went from bad to the absolute worst case scenario. To me the ending for 3 couldnt have been more perfect since you finally dont get the happy ending (crow dying in 2 aside) and it leaves you with a gut wrenching reality that yeah.....things just went to shit and theres nothing that can stop it no matter how you may want to

When CS3 ended i was kinda wondering for CS4 if Rean will be like the final boas and Crow or Juna will be the new main protagonist :3
Not the Final boss, but one of the best Boss fights in th game. Never saw a Spongelike Tank Boss with one Hit capacities like that.
Also, Crow was kinda a MC before and is one for fact in this Game. Juna takes the Place of Alisa as the Main Heroine. So all in all, you guessed right.
