  • We've been in Calgary, Canada for 1 year and 5 months and in this video I share things I think are useful to know that I didn't see feature in videos with a similar title.
We moved from South African to Calgary in October 2022.

I've heard about the migraine issue. It's real.
What I like about the weather in Alberta is that even with the very cold winters, when it's summer, it's summer. It's only cold in summer when it rains for days. Here is also a difference: rain is when it comes and rain wide and for a long period. This is also usually not a downpour. Showers on the other hand is fast moving. The clouds come, rain and move on and the sun shines again. Showers don't stick around long enough to cool down too much. It took me a few years to figure out what it means when the weatherman said it will rain or there will be showers.
Afrikaans has only one word for it as far as I know

Talking about groceries, have you seen how the groceries stores will put the price for the special in a per pound price on the sign. But then when you weigh the product and pay for it, it's a shocker what one really pay because in actuality one pays in kg. So what looked cheap turned out not to be so cheap. And I'm still caught with this mispresentation of the special after 20 years.
