      Hello mate, its hard to say without seeing it but you want to try to keep a good 3 or 4 inches drop from the bottom of one tray to the top of the next if possible. Beyond that just fill em with as much as they will take 👍

    Hi Darren, trying to squeeze one into my set up, I’m gravity fed 5000l and have 2 options, either easy pod then pump then tempest then UV and return to pond or skimmer then pump then tempest then bakki shower and return to pond, you’re advice is much appreciated

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Matt, sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away on holiday, if it where me I would definitely put it after the Pod. It will see much more mechanical waste there and do a better job for you. I would keep the skimmer line with a bigger pump and push more water over the shower than the Tempest would be able to handle.

    Another excellent video Darren. If you are recommending it then people can trust that it's good. I built my own but that wasn't because I thought I could improve on what EA have done. I just prefer the DIY side of things. I dont get to clean mine every day. What with work, creating video's and catching up with my favourite creators I just dont get time. Mine gets done every 3 to 4 days. And it is impressive what it catches. They are also so easy to clean.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate, sounds good. Yeah I agree the ease of cleaning is a big positive. As its even easier to clean than the Pod I've even considered running just two tempests and removing the Pod to see how it goes. Two Tempests is toughly the same price as one Pod.

    Hi Darren ,I wonder if you could help me I'm looking at your video on the Tempest and noticed that you have got Perspex on the top of your pond and the Chrome holders that hold it in place could you please tell me where you got them from and what they are called , Because I am looking to do a similar thing to My pond Please get back to me thanks Dennis.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dennis, It is glass around the top of the pond. They are just pieces of 8 or 10mm glass (mine are not toughened but you can toughen then if you want) from any local glass merchant.
      The posts came from ebay, have a good search around as there are lots of different prices for the same things. Something like these www.ebay.co.uk/itm/124650340926?hash=item1d05bd423e:g:WnoAAOSwQfxgWwvd

    Is it possible to run a tempest directly from a skimmer but put the pump on a timer as to turn off when the auto feeder comes on. Just for a few minutes to stop food going down the skimmer. Great channel sir.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @DazzleKoi

      Hi Chris, most of them wont soften the water, no. You need the ion exchange for that. The best option really is probably RO but its a lot of hassle. Have a read of this thread for some good advice on 2/3 stage filters.

    Hi Daz, Good review and agree with most. Only criticism I have with my Tempest is if its not kept inside the engrained algae is almost impossible to keep on top off when kept outside with the clear tube.

    • @andylight5711
      @andylight5711 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, review excellent. On algae buildup when outside, as mine is, I have a small fish tank magnet glass cleaner, with the inside one tied to a thin nylon thread for when it becomes disconnected. I spend a minute a week when I flush cleaning the tube.

      Hi mate, I haven't used mine outside but I have seen them go green when they are. It wouldn't really worry me I don't think but I know a lot don't like it. I just think, compared to a bead for example, which you never get to see inside, its still got to be better. Maybe a black option or some kind of insulated jacket is needed

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David, a shower brings a lot of benefits and I would always recommend a shower if you can.
      However, given that your issue here is water clarity, the tempest is the one, out of those two options, that will address this problem. they are a brilliant polishing filter to remove very fine mechanical waste from your pond 👍👍

    Hi Daz
    Do you think it can strip out pond treatments ie flukesolve

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paddy, I don't believe it will, no. Most chemicals are liquids that disperse in the water so once they are in there you wont get them out mechanically. The only thing it may take out is clay but even if it traps particles of clay before they dissolve I think they would still just dissolve up in time as they are still in the water.

      @@DazzleKoi Your advice on this point is worth knowing. I treated twice with lernex pro and it did nothing. I then treated with lernex pro twice more but this time I turned the nexus and tempest off for 36 hours and added air and it worked. I was unsure whether it just needed two more treatments or whether turning the filters off made the difference. Judging by your advice maybe it was the former?.

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi mate, and sorry for the delay, I've been away on holiday. Yes my feeling is that it is the former. I treated for flukes after Christmas and I left everything running and it got rid of them. I used Lernex one week followed by lernex pro 6 days later. I got this tip off a respected koi dealer as apparently they are based on two different chemicals and by using both you cover all possible strains.

    Hi mate , I m able to give some info on putting one of these on pump fed system as its what i have had to do , you are correct about having to clean daily but , as you say , its easy to do so not an issue . Im very happy with this purchase ,water started to improve on clarity in just a couple of days and is now crystal , in fact the main filter ,which is a multi bay , is so much cleaner ive been able to take brushes out and put in more bio media .
    The only problem I have , which im working to solve , is bits of blanketweed caught in bottom grill . So if any one was wondering about putting on pump fed i would say its fine but need to flush daily .

    I’m in serious need of re-thinking my filtration as I had a go at a DIY system when I built my pond. Parameters wise I’m absolutely spot on but really need to combat the mechanical side of things.
    I’m pump fed via a DIY retro fit bottom drain and thinking of adding 2 of these as I’m running 12k an hour pump and having them before my large bio chamber

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott, the trick with mechanically filtration is you need to be able to easily flush it out so that it can be done very regularly, I do mine every day. This is often where home made system fall down.
      The issue you will have is the tempest is only designed for 5000 litres an hour optimum and up to 7500 litres an hour max so you may struggle to use them on your system.

    Hi Darren, looking at starting my first koi pond build soon and have working my way through your videos which have been great and very informative!
    Just a quick one, I was looking at getting the eazypod air to filter. The tempest wouldn’t be a cheaper option to use by itself? Guessing it’s mainly been designed for extra filtration? Pond will be approx 3,500L
    Cheers!

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, in theory the tempest could work on its own but it would be a very small pond that it could handle. If you can, I would pick up a second hand eazy pod, there are always loads of bargains to be had, and then add the tempest to the system later. They work brilliantly together.

      Hi Darren thanks for the reply. I was on the fence with buying this I really thought at first it was just a gimmick but I was wrong and so glad I got one. It's unbelievable how much dirt it collects I've got it running after a leaf basket on a skimmer line and totally agree with what you said sometimes it's not about the money when it's adding performance to getting clear water. @@DazzleKoi had the original white piped one started leaking a bit so heard there was a modified one.
      Went back through dealer for the modified one that leaked through bottom plate and welled up through the screw bit above handle, next one sent leaked through bottom plate again.
      And finally 3rd one sent by EA fingers crossed (it's stood off system full of water leak test) hasn't done it so far giving it a few more days.
      Not knocking it as I thought it was great just a pain.

    Brill review video on the tempest mate. I am going to fit one on my skimmer. Which will be pumped to a blade and then tee off to the tempest. Going to fit a value to the blade so I can turn it of and controll the flow has well. And in the winter when the blade is off it can still flow to the Tempest .And a value just before the tempest so I can control the flow rate which will return to a high underwater returns 👍

    Great factual review, thanks. As you no doubt know many people are building their own DIY version of the Tempest. Knowing what you know now having had a Tempest for 6 months, would have built your own if you didn't have an original version. As an aside I noticed your Fishmate P7000 was no longer on your pond. Wondering why? Cheers.

      Hi mate, I would buy a tempest if I didn't have this one. I'm lazy these days and I just don't have time to make things myself anymore. I've also seen the costs for the correct diameter acrylic and when you add in media, valves, pipework, a system for cleaning it etc I don't think its easy to make one that works as well for any less money and then you have no warranty or support. I've seen some good home made ones so it is definitely possible, just not for me.
      Good spot with the feeder, I honestly can't remember why it isn't there when I filmed this as its still going strong and I'm still really happy with it. Only thing I can think of is I took it off to fill it up.
      Got a video of the koi at the national show coming shortly and its there on that one 👍👍👍

      @@DazzleKoi I understand. I've priced out and tried to source out some of the parts necessary to DIY one and the costs are prohibitive and finding parts here in Canada almost impossible. Only down side with the Tempest is that it is designed for smaller ponds (max 1320 US gal) and my pond is 5000 US gal. I would need 4 of them on my pond based on EA specs putting purchase out of the question. Glad yours is working well though. Cheers.

      Hi mate, and sorry for the delay, I've been away on holiday. Yeah its not really an option for sole filtration on a pond of your size. Its more suited as an addition to take a fines and polish the water really. If you can add one to your existing system you will see good benefit and it has the added bonus of being there ready to go if you need a quarantine filter or hospital tank filter.

      I've thought about that actually but I don't really want to get to close if that makes sense. I don't want to build up a relationship as the next EA product I review might be rubbish and I want to be able to say that without worrying about upsetting anyone. People already accuse me of being 'in bed with EA' so I have to try and keep my distance so as not to feed the trolls. Its sad but that's how it is these days.
      I think that would be a great video though, maybe it would be better coming from Tim at Quality Nishikigoi.

    Like I said on my video, EA don’t just instantly come up with a product, used in other applications for many years before making it for a pond. Nobody can deny they work, you see it every time you clean the units. We have installed on all filter types and they remove the same amount. Good vid pal, I’m sure I saw some algae on the window????

    sorry but you cannot talk about a tempest & a drum in the same sentence if you want great filtration moving bed is the answer 5 micron screen ? but a drum is good enough for anyone i would not pay £2.50 let alone £250 sorry moving bed from koi waterlife

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Richard, I'm not sure what you mean if I'm honest. Drums don't have 5 micron screens, they are usually around 60 or 70 microns. The tempest filters down much smaller than that. Also, a moving bed is biological filtration and we are talking about mechanical filtration here.
      Each to their own, I love drum filters, but £250 is a bargain for the performance you get from a tempest.

    Over priced crap as far as I’m concerned

    • @DazzleKoi
      @DazzleKoi  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daz, I'm a bit confused as I just watched your video and you say you love the nexus and the tempest does a good job. I've never heard anyone who owns a tempest say they don't perform brilliantly before. The only people I've heard slate them are habitual EA bashers who have never actually used one. If it isn't taking fines out then something is wrong with your setup in my humble opinion.
      Its hard to say from just seeing the video but you look to have way too much flow through the tempest. It needs to be 5000 litres an hour for optimum mechanical filtration. You also say you have a 35,000 litre pump on the nexus. Again, way to much if that's correct as optimum is 7500 - 8000 litres. Its no wonder you are pulling fines through if this is correct mate.
      Lastly, no filter on the planet will take out fines if you don't put them in to it in the first place. Look at your returns with a pair of stockings over them for a few hours to see if the fines are actually passing through the filters or are not finding their way in to them in the first place.
