Every once in awhile one of these guys come along, huh? I have a hard time comparing this phenomenon to anything in my lifetime, and I am 67. Country and bluegrass fan, Doc Watson, Grateful Dead, and lotsa rock. I'm so glad that Billy is rooted first and foremost in Doc, who will always be Doc, going way downtown. Yeah, this is good shit, kids! Glad that Billy continues to develop his own vocal style... (He can mime anybody).
Idk why, but this is not the crowds I would've expected to find their way to a Billy strings show. How did Billy manage to get such a strong hippie like following in such a short time?
His following is broad. I am 49, love all kinds of music from rap to metal. Billy is tip top. He can do it all. Turmoil and tinfoil could be a metal songs. It all starts with six strings and then it explodes.
Jam band fans love improvisational music. Billy goes there. And they all pretty much enjoy or at least appreciate bluegrass. Anything Americana and hippies like it.
