It sounds like you had an excellent music teacher! Many people think that classical and heavy music have nothing in common, but it's actually quite the opposite.
That last section of Bach's Toccata & Fugue in D minor, starting at 1:05:07 - of which most people only know the "creepy" introduction at the beginning! - is the most tragic & METAL collection of minor chords you will ever hear; if that music doesn't move you to tears, NOTHING ELSE WILL! Johan Sebastian Bach was a musical monster!🤘🤘
I remember reading an article 25 years ago saying that some classical pieces are harder on the ear than heavy metal. I was totally intrigued and a few years later I started listening to both. It's a shame that some people won't ever discover what true music is.
I actually did a presentation in collage on basically exactly this topic. The assignment was to create a presentation that would convince people to invest in or buy your product. I made the case for classical music to a group of 20 to 30 year olds by basically telling them they already were listening to it without knowing it. Then I played some excerpts from various Metallica songs that had been done with classical instrumentation and even the no leaf clover performance they did with the orchestra...which is probably in the top 10 of my favorite pieces of music ever.
Steve Vai, Marty Friedman, Jason Becker, Uli Jon Roth, Ritchie Blackmore, Malmsteen...you name it most top super guitar shredder has a huge influence from classical music
Vivaldi would have invented Speedmetal or Techno or both. Years ago a i visited a friend in france and he had been a very talented gitarre player. He took his paper and instument, played the notes and when we all had been exited about this fast and powerful melodie, he just said: "This was music form the 13th century."
Oh yeah, Roads went beyond the ‘learn the tablature’ and run through the pentatonic scales. He knew music and blended in diatonic scales with pentatonic scales and modes. Mr Crowley is a great example of this.
AND so much metal is influenced by classical music - SYMPHONIC metal and of course, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Led Zeppelin, and even right there in Am I Evil by Metallica - in the intro - a homage to Gustav Holst's "Mars, Bringer of War". Ever listen to Dante's Inferno from the Divine Comedy? How about Ride of the Valkyries by Wagner? There is SO much "DARK" classical music. I loooove it.
Mossorgsky - Night on bald mountain in the movie Fantasia (Disney) is one of the reasson why I fell in love with Music when I was a child. I play the tuba (is there any instrument more heavy and pure metal?) and of course, I love heavy metal!!! It's not on the list, but 1812 is quite a heavy masterpiece, I remember when I play it with my band, they bring bell and pirotecnia.... los pelos como escarpias...
When I was little, my parents put a bunch of classical pieces on a little radio for me to fall asleep to. I distinctly remember panicking a little every time Hungarian Dance No. 5 came up. Der Erlkonig was another fun one. Sweet memories :)
I'm listening to this but not looking at the playlist because I want to be surprised! I will wait to see if my own choices will be played. I've never been into heavy metal, but I love this "Classical pre-metal". Love the Bach Toccata and Fugue and it's psychedelic effect! Thank you, Halidon, for another wonderful compilation! I am enjoying it!
I've always said that classical music is metal! That's why I've always loved the two genres the most over anything else. Thank you for clarifying for all those who opposed!!!
The best example so far of hidden heavy metal under classical music is Vivaldi's storm. Just plug those strings to a huge Marshall amp and turn drive to max and you'll find out!
Lots of classical music songs where originally meant to be played faster, but it meant most musicians couldn't do it. So slower renditions became the common form.
Vivaldi, a mathematician turned composer, was indeed a genius and knew why a proper climate needed 4 seasons and how it translated to human emotions. The key is not any one of the seasons or their equivalent emotion but the change that occurs and how each season in relation to one another transitions. I have always loved and enjoyed A. Vivaldi.
This is my new favorite playlist! As a big fan of both metal and classical music, I had once begun to compile heavy pieces of classical music. It was mostly the typical pieces you'd expect: Bach's Toccata and Fugue, Holst's Mars, Bringer of War, Chopin's Funeral March, Rachmaninoff's Isle of the Dead, The Devil's Trill, A Night on Bald Mountain, etc. This list, however, is great! So many pieces I don't know so I've got new music to play! And I love listening to new music almost as much as I like listening to music I've listened to for decades. Thank you for this. 🤘🖤🤘
I am forever thankful that I had the first and foremost progressive music teacher in Maryland. I honestly think she likely wrote this playlist as her classroom cirriculum for Music History. She lived a full life, and I consider myself lucky that I got a few years in her classes. Rest in Peace, Mildred Trevett.
I love the title, it is very accurate. Ive always argued metal has more to do with classical than blues or country music. And I gravitate to the classical side of metal, which began when i was 12 n discovered Randy Rhoads, whose true passion is/was classical guitar. And in my opinion elite black metal has really driven the metal/classical relationship to its most supreme heights. I love all the B.M. lps created in conjunction with Orchestra, especially; Diabolical Masquerade, Septic Flesh, and Dimmu Borgir.
I love classical music! ☺️ THIS is how you tell a cohesive story through music. Today's random crap often doesn't make sense to me, and mismatches with the lyrics that often seem lost or just thrown together. But with classical, you don't even need to read the title to get what's going on. Reading the title is the best example of a concise story blurb I've ever, or since, seen. Altogether, classical remains the most cohesive, coherent, detailed, musical story I've yet heard. Most other music is nonsensical mush in comparison.
when i was 14/15, 1982'ish, i was a punky skinhead, but i like the strong powerful classical stuff, cos played loud is was awesome.... and so i got into classical music.
Špičkový výběr, Klasika je metal minulosti, je ale dokonalý i pro současnost. Miluju klasické provedení a stejně tak miluju, když klasiku vezmou do nástrojů metalové hvězdy. Dobrý výběr👍👍👍👍👍
what i love in music is soft piano touch, emotive violin, electric metal sound vibrating chord, distorded synth, voices, rythm, bass, melody, create, think, arrange because all of this define just... that i love "THE" music and not only one !!! there is masterpiece in "all" and when the same melody is reimaginated by others it's definitively what i wait... a deep touching soul so thx to classic, soul, rap, metal, techno and all others style for this... this emotion and out of time when listening !!! to all compositors past & future, singers, players, dj & you... who create now... thx to be what you are ! music is an heart melody where word are not necessary but can sublimate
I've become a fan of Magma after listening to the Carmina Burana. But I've always loved Grieg, Bach and Stravinskij. Very different one to each other, but able to give me great emotions.
0:20:00 is the best moment. I know that classical music is just metal before electricity and I like this heavy metal, more then modern heavy metal. Thank you so much, HALIDOMUSIC🥰
I've always said this! Was recently listening to the Insomnium album "Winter's Gate" and the opening track reminded me of this fact for the billionth time! Any classical music fan should love metal as well.
can any of yall imagine hearing these bangers live for the first time? Like you powder your face and put on your best wig, cinch your corset tight and you show up to the music hall and Beethoven just literally blows your wig right off? damn
In that spirit, Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra (especially the Finale) is worth a listen too. Oh, and his string Quartet no. 2 (esp. 2nd Mvt) too. Trust me ; )
Lots of great pieces here ! I discovered a few amazing ones. But there is one that is sorely missing : "Mars, the Bringer of War" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets" as it famously inspired the riff of Black Sabbath's eponymous song. It was also later covered by Diamond Head, and subsequently Metallica, for the intro of "Am I Evil". It's literally one of the most important inspirations for metal music and its prominent usage of the Tritone.
Thank you! You're not the first to point out how perfectly "Mars, the Bringer of War" would fit in our epic collections. Unfortunately as a record label we can only feature the pieces we own, but we would love to be able to add a recording of "The Planets" to our catalogue in the future! Fingers crossed 🤞
I am a fan of classical music and heavy metal. This was not trickery. The major difference I see is the discovery of electricity. When I hear The 1812 Overture I can visualize a heavy metal band doing this. Look for the classical influence in just these groups: Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, Emerson Lake and Palmer to start. As you hear more I am convinced you will discover more. Respectfully submitted, The Old Rocker
I recall Halidon creating previous playlists titled "Music for Sleeping". Perhaps this collection should be renamed with the title "All-Nighter Music" ! 😵💫
C'est toujours ce que je me suis dit cela dit au vue de l'évolution musicale que j'ai pu constater de mon vivant suis pas certain qu'à l'époque les morceaux aient été joués avec un tempo aussi élevé que dans ces interprétations.
As a multiscore, this has been my argument for so long! Also the destruction of pseudo-starts. The first riff was someone carrying up front taking a wrong step and falling into rhythm; all we have done since then is look for falling; with or without groove. But that's just my 0.02 AMD... -and a mended cup.
Holst's "Mars: The Bringer of War" from his suite "The Planets', Stravinsky’s "The Rite of Spring", Bartok's 'The Miraculous Mandarin".. all Classical Metal. Some of Bach's Harpsichord works literally sound like Metal guitar solos as the tone of the Harpsichord possesses a natural plucked metallic sound.
Of course Vivaldi's Summer Presto should be here. I think Vivaldi was a previous incarnation of Malmsteen. A pity there wasn't electricity and guitar technology at that century. Just imagine if there was.... Greetings from Brasil
I had the good fortune in my career in live theatre to stand off stage to many world class orchestras and it never ceased to amaze me the strength and level of sound a 60 piece orchestra can achieve, I would almost say they could rival most of the rock PA systems I had heard over the years, and hearing some of these pieces live I would get goose pimps.
Oh yes, first there was classical music and then came everything else! Who knows what music would be like today if the great composers of the past had chosen a different path...
If only they knew how much metal music takes direct inspiration from classical music! They appear to be polar opposites and yet before electricity was a thing classical music could go hard as well. You're absolutely not a psycho for enjoying both genres - we do too, and if you look at the comments you will find plenty of people like you and us🤘
@@HALIDONMUSIC Nessun Dorma is a perfect example of blaring vocals with dynamic highs and lows. Very akin to metal classics :) I truly respect many rock vocalists. Those techniques are even harder than opera.
LOVE this compilation! It's on regular rotation for me! Some Heavy Metal or Symphonic Metal artist (besides Apocalyptica-love them, but want to hear someone else try it) needs to try these!
The most appropriate title would be that heavy metal is classical music with electricity, but I understand the concept hehe! I mean where to start with its influence on rock and metal, From Deep Purple to Metallica to Children of Bodom. From Michael Schenker, Randy, Malmsteen, Becker, Tipton and Laiho. The list is exhaustive!!!!
Ive always believed that if the great composers of the classical music era could hear some Heavy Metal instrumentals, they would LOVE it. I say instrumental because they probably wouldnt like the majority of Metal vocal styles. Although they probably would love symphonic Metal vocals. And they would turn their noses up at other forms of modern music, like Country, Rap, Pop, etc. But METAL just has that raw energy, that POWER that so many classical pieces have. No other forms of music convey emotion like classical and Metal.
I am glad to know I wasn't the only only who thought this way. I remember when I was supposed to be having my nap after morning kindergarden class, and my mom was in the garden, I would carefully put Mozart's Eine Kleine Nacht Muzik on the record player and listen to it ever so quietly as my ear was against the speaker. Nowadays I listen to Gaerea when I am driving, at a level that makes my better half, comment on the volume. I wish I could play, maybe I will find the time to practise.
I thought I was the only one who thought this. I was listening to Mozart many years ago and noticed motifs that were very similar to motifs used in a lot of rock songs in modern times.
Oh sì, questa raccolta è perfetta per chi vuole tirarsi un po' su di morale o ha bisogno di una bella scarica di energia in preparazione al fine settimana ⚡Grazie Donatella!
this is clearly explains why i love so much listening simultaneously starts from Wagner, Emperor, Beethoven, Entombed, Prokofiev, Morbid Angel, Vivaldi, Meshuggah, Paganini, Opeth, Dvorak, Death, Rachmaninoff, Grave, Schubert, Mayhem etc...
its clear the inspiration of many actual sound track for film composers like those for indiana Jones and star wars. If you place Wagner pieces on those movies they would fit as glove!
Handel's operas and oratorias and Monteverde's operas are my favourites. Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle is intense. Wagner and Mahler for "chromatic progressions"

W parents bro
When I was 16 and saw Black Sabbath in concert in 71, I said to myself, " That's like classical music with distortion !"
I am 71 born guy and I believe 1955 was an epic era. Pure things existed then and life was way simple.
That’s why both are timeless!!!❤
I'm listening to this but not looking at the playlist because I want to be surprised! I will wait to see if my own choices will be played. I've never been into heavy metal, but I love this "Classical pre-metal". Love the Bach Toccata and Fugue and it's psychedelic effect!
Thank you, Halidon, for another wonderful compilation! I am enjoying it!
at 45:20 - Dvořák - Symphony No. 9 "From the New World": The opening is the movie "Jaws" theme music!
I’m sure John Williams used it as inspiration for the Jaws theme
Rhapsody of Fire - The Wizard's Last Rhymes is a metal cover of this.
me estoy recuperando del dengue y escuchando ésta hermosa selección para distraerme del mareo. Gracias, Vivaldi de mi corazón
Today is March 26, 2024. RIP Ludwig Van Beethoven, for I can hear your soul and be so ever thankful. Danke.
I second that! He is my favorite composer.
As a girl who loves classic rock, I’m impressed with these. I listen to them all time. Thanks, Halidon!
Lots of classical music songs where originally meant to be played faster, but it meant most musicians couldn't do it. So slower renditions became the common form.
Slower or faster doesn't mean badder or better
A legend once said, take a pick of your music choice and enjoy your stay.
Love this, quite a few that I used to have on lp's, At aged 85, I can't remember all the names but sure know the music!
I have always said exactly that, classic music is heavy metal. Glad to see so many others think the same.
Oh yes, you've found your tribe! ⚡
Thought the same long time ago! and I am glad other people think the same!
As a fan of metal music, I approve of the title of this video.
the title was tailor made to do exactly that😎
when i was 14/15, 1982'ish, i was a punky skinhead, but i like the strong powerful classical stuff, cos played loud is was awesome.... and so i got into classical music.
That is pretty much very true. A lot of famous metal guitarists learned classical guitar and drew their inspiration from classical composers.
Špičkový výběr, Klasika je metal minulosti, je ale dokonalý i pro současnost. Miluju klasické provedení a stejně tak miluju, když klasiku vezmou do nástrojů metalové hvězdy. Dobrý výběr👍👍👍👍👍
what i love in music is soft piano touch, emotive violin, electric metal sound vibrating chord, distorded synth, voices, rythm, bass, melody, create, think, arrange
because all of this define just... that i love "THE" music and not only one !!! there is masterpiece in "all" and when the same melody is reimaginated by others
it's definitively what i wait... a deep touching soul so thx to classic, soul, rap, metal, techno and all others style for this... this emotion and out of time when listening !!!
to all compositors past & future, singers, players, dj & you... who create now... thx to be what you are ! music is an heart melody where word are not necessary but can sublimate
Also Shostakovitch's 8th string quartett and basically anything by Xenakis, Ligeti or Penderecki.

Like you powder your face and put on your best wig, cinch your corset tight and you show up to the music hall and Beethoven just literally blows your wig right off? damn
All that work to put on your wig and then *bam*, it goes flying 💣
In that spirit, Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra (especially the Finale) is worth a listen too. Oh, and his string Quartet no. 2 (esp. 2nd Mvt) too. Trust me ; )
Yes.. also the ending section of his "The Miraculous Mandarin".
@@HALIDONMUSIC That makes more sense, I didnt think music rights were at play here. Looking forward a future inclusion for sure 🤘
That’s why I love the movie Fantasia, so much classical music.
Respectfully submitted,
The Old Rocker
Una lista de reproducción de música clásica nunca será completa hasta que suene Richard Wagner 👑 🎶🎻
Cool Baby, Cool! 🎸🎸🎸🤟 Thanks for the seriously cool playlist Halidon Music.😎Ros
Haha thank you Ros, we hope our energy-packed playlist kicks off your weekend with a bang! 🧨⚡
I recall Halidon creating previous playlists titled "Music for Sleeping". Perhaps this collection should be renamed with the title "All-Nighter Music" ! 😵💫
I love the sleep music. And of course this get up and go music. All.
totally agree! if you replace the violin with metal guitar in your mind, it's all there...
I would have included Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata" 3rd movement
THIS is what I was telling my Music Appreciation class in the 90s!!!!
Classical music on electro guitar>>
That's pure epicness 🔥
That's what Children Of Bodom used to be
Holst's "Mars: The Bringer of War" from his suite "The Planets', Stravinsky’s "The Rite of Spring", Bartok's 'The Miraculous Mandarin".. all Classical Metal.
I don’t usually listen to classical music but while I cook my chicken I am listening awesome!
Love the idea that classical music came 1st! The others are no comparison! Thanks
Oh yes, first there was classical music and then came everything else! Who knows what music would be like today if the great composers of the past had chosen a different path...
@@HALIDONMUSIC true
I super agree. People think I'm "trying to be different" or im just 'psycho" because I love both "classical" stuff and METAL!!!! They don't get it.
Those techniques are even harder than opera.
classic music is not for everyone.. like i don't blame anyone, it's a fact
i'm a die-hard TOOL fan, and this a beautiful selection..
LOVE this compilation! It's on regular rotation for me! Some Heavy Metal or Symphonic Metal artist (besides Apocalyptica-love them, but want to hear someone else try it) needs to try these!
Well,
KEEP ON ROCKING!!
🤘🤘🤘🤘
Always and forever! 🤘💣
Locatelli, Duranowski and Paganini are Metal AF 🤘
Real metalheads love classical music prove me wrong.
Que coletânea maravilhosa. Muito obrigado mesmo.
That’s deep purple with 25 instruments. I approve of it. 👍
I thought I was the only one who thought this. I was listening to Mozart many years ago and noticed motifs that were very similar to motifs used in a lot of rock songs in modern times.
woa, classical classical music. So good. Thanks for sharing it
March to the scaffold from Hector Berlioz would fit the list!
A lot of stuff in here I wasn't familiar with.
Thank you for an awesome collection!
this is clearly explains why i love so much listening simultaneously starts from Wagner, Emperor, Beethoven, Entombed, Prokofiev, Morbid Angel, Vivaldi, Meshuggah, Paganini, Opeth, Dvorak, Death, Rachmaninoff, Grave, Schubert, Mayhem etc...
I appreciate the labels chapters ty
100% absolutely 💯
its clear the inspiration of many actual sound track for film composers like those for indiana Jones and star wars. If you place Wagner pieces on those movies they would fit as glove!
Carmina Burana: O Fortuna has always been one of my favorites! 🤘🤯🤘
It's pure fire and epicness 🔥
Carmina Burana is one of the most metal pieces ever. You could put that into a laser show and it wouldn't be out of place at all.
As an old ad says "Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee" - nor Vivaldi!.👏💛👏👏
Handel's operas and oratorias and Monteverde's operas are my favourites. Bartok's Bluebeard's Castle is intense. Wagner and Mahler for "chromatic progressions"
Monteverdi
This is the greatest silent music I've ever not heard!
7 minutes we waited for the king!
I have been a lover of classical music since the age of ten,but my heart and my passion belongs to the opera.❤
We get it, opera is simply amazing ❤️ We have a whole selection of instrumental opera arias and full opera performances on our channel if you'd like to check them out! Here is the complete playlist to choose from: th-cam.com/video/3c29aA8kPzM/w-d-xo.html
