- Locomotive 46447 seemed so much part of the fixture and fittings at the East Somerset Railway and now it now seems hard to believe that this long term loanee will not be part of the scene on the railway for the next couple of years or so. Nevertheless it is scheduled to remain at the ESR for the next 10 years after the overhaul which will be undertaken at Cranmore. Much depends on the completion of GWR 2-8-0T No. 4247 as to when it will vacate the workshop space so the Ivatt Class 2 2-6-0 will probably be standing outside the running shed for a while.
The video includes recordings from the final days the locomotive was in action hauling half term "Spooky Special" trains on the 27th and 30th of October. Barclay Works 0-4-0ST No. 1719 LADY NAN was giving driving experiences for £15 on Sunday and the miniature railway was operating on Wednesday. I was told that the locomotive had a problem on Sunday with a few sloping firebars and the use of large pieces of coal to block a hole proved to be a crude but very effective remedy. There are views from on and off the train and the very last train of the day on the 30th hauled by the Ivatt Class 2 is included (my wife did this rounf trip on her own).
Isn’t it the boiler certificate that has expired that’s made the loco to bow out
Yes it was new in October 2014 and expires in Oct 2024 but it needs it's first major overhaul since being restored from a Barry wreck 10 years ago.
