It is funny. I never really learned about rockets or anything like that. However, I was trained on finding explosive devices and what kind of homemade explosives were being used on said devices and how they worked etc. Which was kind of strange because I was just a grunt and had nothing to do with eod or any history with explosives, but hey, when you are voluntold by the army to do something you don't have much of a choice. I got a kick out of how much I understood and was able to explain certain things to people while watching the movie.
Billy Rose is my uncle. According to him, Roy Lee's movie stepfather was actually a portrayal of my grandfather, Arnie B Rose, who was in fact an abusive drunk.
I am genuinely confused why the filmmakers took out Jake Mosby and Geneva Eggers from the movie, they were the two best/most interesting characters in the book, especially Geneva, her story is the saddest in the book.
9:19 it's amazing that even back then during the "good old days" for McDowell County there were still big layoffs and poverty. That county and Coalwood in particular have shrunk so much now that they stopped having the October Sky festivals there more than a decade ago at this point! Now blight tourism seems to be the only kind of videos shot there anymore.
