    Let me know your thoughts on the presets in the comments! Also, if you feel like it, you can also support me, either here on TH-cam.com/Aldrahill/join , or on Patreon.com/Aldrahill
    No pressure, but you guys' support means the world to me, and helps encourage me to be able to do this more frequently!
    Next one will be the UK! I am also working on a few non-historical preset-focused videos right now, including a Black Ice video, and a Soviet special challenge ;) So make sure you keep an eye out and join the Discord for updates!

      Agreed. As long as you aren’t customizing any designs, they still count as a “preset” to me. Still within the spirit of the challenge, and having a little variety in the designs (without being able to make anything imaginable) seems historical still.

  • @suola__

    Couple things I noticed here
    1. 6:01 Your planes are not on a mission because the carriers are on an active mission. To use the carrier planes you need to have carriers on a hold order out of port.
    2. 20:20 You couldn't unassign the divisions because the general had offensive order active. If you had clicked the red box to stop you could have switched them to another army
    3. 23:28 You need to create a new fleet consisting of only ships with around 3000km range. If I remember correctly Japans starting carriers and battleships should have enough range to reach California however you cant have light ships for them as they bring down the range down

    • @Aldrahill
      @Aldrahill  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      All smart tips, thanks buddy! I was being super dumb about naval range in this video :ap

    • @nickxcaliber7991
      @nickxcaliber7991 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You must build naval bases. Not dockyards. It clearly says naval bases extend range, so make like a level 10 in hawaii and youll cover the entire pacific

    • @suola__
      @suola__ 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @aliber7991 The level of naval bases does not increase the range of your ship. This means that you can have a level 1 naval base and still have the same range as if it was level 10 base.
      The range is determined by the ships hull, national spirits, technology and modifications such as the fuel tanks for cruiser submarines.
      Naval base levels only increase the supply throughput and repair slots.
      Range of fleets is the average of ranges of ships in a fleet.
      The base statistic of each hull range from 1500km with dd1 hull up to 6000km with 1944 submarine hull.

    I think you should take it a step further and allow yourself to design the presents, but keep them as historical as possible. For instance, the Panther tank would have interweaved roadwheels, sloped armor, a long gun and 3 man turret, gasoline engine. A Bf 109E fighter would have 1 set of light machine guns, 1 cannon 1 (I think?), and some pilot armor. You can go crazy with ships and try making an actual Bismark/Yamato/whatever you need!
    I think this will allow for even more historical immersion.

    • @theredpandagamingswe7545
      @theredpandagamingswe7545 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      This sounds amazing. Even go further and make it so the Panther has to be below a certain level of reliabilty

      Yeah, especially when paradox forgets to put some in.

    • @quentintin1
      @quentintin1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Bf109E would have had 2 cannons, the installation of a cannon in the middle of the propeller would not happen before the F model
      basically the armament of the 109s per model:
      A,B : 2-3 lmg
      C,D,E1: 4 lmg
      C3,E3-T: 2 lmg + 2 light cannon (MG/FF), later modified to carry a centreline bomb rack or a drop tank, as would all subsequent models
      E2,F: 2 lmg + 1 light cannon (E2 had a MG/FF, F used MG 151, so cannon 1 and 2 respectively?)
      F4-G4: 2 lmg + 3 light cannons (1 nose and 2 underwing)
      G5: 2 hmg + 1 light cannon
      G6-K: 2 hmg + 1 heavy cannon, then could fit 2 light of heavy cannons underwing or rocket rails, and a centerline bombrack or a drop tank
      Z1: 4 heavy cannnons
      Z1: 2 heavy cannons + 2 centreline (1 per fuselage) bomb racks
      to be accurate, the variants should all be based on the 1936 airframe, getting progressively more (and better) guns, as well as more powerful engines, but the only 2 weapons slots do limit the number or armament types one can mount on a single plane so maybe the F model onwards could count as 1940 airframe, but that then overlaps with the FW 190 (first flight 1939) which has... interesting weapons layout

    • @quentintin1
      @quentintin1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      one issue with going that route is the sheer xp cost, assuming we go by year appropriate designs, so having to adjust how many ever designs per year + the division templates
      another is that while the air designer is fairly straightforward with the weapons and features one might add to a given airframe to replicate a set design, the others not so much
      the tanks have some fuzzy places (what armour value to mimic their resistance? how fast should the tank be? do hull mgs count as extra mg?)
      and naval is definitely weird with the slots and what goes with them (some ships have a load of possible configurations, more than a few impossible in game, how do you replicate late US ships with bonkers numbers of AA tubes?)

    • @quentintin1
      @quentintin1 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@theredpandagamingswe7545 panther was actually not *that* unreliable, past the D model and their habit of catching fire when unattended
      in fact on average panther had better reliability and the later panzer IV
      their unreliability is a bit overstated as germany was constantly retreating, so tanks that suffered "normal" failures for which they could have been put back to service without issues had to be abandonned on the spot
      same got for the tiger II, which, in it's normal gun tank version was more reliable than the preceding tiger I

    I believe that you don't have the range because several of your ships have too little range to reach the US or respectively the Mexican coastline. In order to fix that you would have to create a fleet with only the highest range ships. E.g. Battleships with the best engine. The port in Honolulu is already at lvl 10 if I remember correctly so there is no use in building ports. Also using the designs that a focus give you is completely fine.

    9:00: Count the regimental pieces as a support arty fits IMO. The regimental guns were all 75mm mountain guns and similar small pieces. And the 70mm battalion guns were tiny little baby-howitzers that were more like a medium mortar that could be used in direct fire.
    Also, um, know the difference:
    Ya-ma-to: The biggest battleships ever built.
    Ya-ma-mo-to: The guy who planned Pearl Harbor.
    Also, probably should have looked under outdated equipment for ship plans. ;)

    Naval fleet range is decided by average range - split off your highest range ships (only on strike force, don't send them out unescorted) for the landing from Hawaii to LA. Although you probably could have invaded via Attu and Alaska even without this.

    Mountain artillery doesnt mean its about mountaineers but an artillery meant to be used in mountains by regular infantry.
    The difference between that and normal artillery is that its way way smaller (caliber and size overall) and you have take it on pieces and horses could carry parts of them etc ect.
    Another name is pack guns or mountain guns. Used in areas with poor infastructure.
    "The first designs of modern breechloading mountain guns with recoil control and the capacity to be easily broken down and reassembled into highly efficient units were made by Greek army engineers P. Lykoudis and Panagiotis Danglis (after whom the Schneider-Danglis gun was named) in the 1890s."

    Actually the transition did not happen all at once at 1938, but Type B divisions were added slowly (there've been less than 10 Type B divisions by 1940 but still more than 25 rectangular ones afaik). Imo the transfer into 3x3 Type B template would be sufficient (also better playable ingame), as there still were just 3 battalions per regiment. If you start at 1938 Hoi4 has a "chugata hohei shidan" template which fits that purpose well. Yes they had more more men but they weren't all combat units but several support units (water treatment, vets etc..), especially transport units, as those divs were less motorized than their German 3x3 counterparts (rolemodels). You basically can't handle that division as a 20k men fighting unit. Alltogether they had over 150 infantry divisions at the end of war but some of them were "Type C" divisions consisting of basically 2x4=8 inf. battalions + engineer/logistics/arty support (Type B and A also had field hospitals, Recon and Anti-tank). Adding the 30 regimental guns as support arty makes sense bc of the small caliber but since the gun in your tech tree is just 70mm you might aswell make just 2 arty battalions to have a more accurate amount of guns and to not overload the support companies (max. 5 which you basically all need for other stuff).
    Additionally I kept a 3x4 template to represent the Typ A infantry division which were the reinforced by a divisional regiment of 3 batallions (3x3+3=12), 2 arty+1support-arty and exactly the right amount of Anti-tank guns to form one anti-tank battalion ingame. Adding a light tank-scout support (optional as most had just a cavalry regiment which would represent the calvary scout support battalion and barely had the 24 lights tanks you'd get with a recon tank support ingame) and 1 medium tank battalion, that would have done the job (beside the field hospital, engineers and most importantly logistics aka the so-called "transport units").
    The Independant Mixed Brigades played a big role (130+ mixed brigades) they should be adapted to having just 1 light tank battalion though. Many even had no tanks but 1 artillery battallion ("regiment") instead. Those without were basically just Independent Infantry Brigades (they had like 15 of those). Many mixed brigade had no tank or insufficient arty support, so they've been basically infantry brigades considering their fighting capabilities. Many of infantry divisions and brigades aswell had singal support units so you might add them as you like.
    Considering the ships, removing the second "Zuiho-Class" Carrier from the queue is a mistake as they had 2 of those. 2 Soryu class carriers queued up is also align with history. You have some too many of some early destroyer like mutsuki though, you could improve the worst ones to a self-designed "Akatsuki/Hatsuharu Class" before having the 1936 hull researched which is basically the "Asashio-class". There is information out there how they have been equipped, like when they have 80 torpedos you could make 2 torpedo slots, also the caliber of the ship guns is possible to replicate historically. You'd need to add 2 heavy cruisers "Tone-class" which is already available from beginning. 1943 your fleet would've been upgraded with Hydrophones and Radars. The national focus tree where you get 2 super-heavy yamato class is indeed the right historical option, you'd have to rename one of it though (the second was called "Musashi")...^^
    Finally as the war progressed, those tank divisions all were structured different and got added more tanks. It does not make sense to make a new template for each division so I replicated the first, which would have the most Organization having 3 motorized infantry battalions. Usually they had lots of artillery and anti-tank guns, as support and spg varied I'd say make one that has 2 tanks and another spg or motorized arty/at battallion to compromise between historical accuracy and playability.
    PS: I think it's a tragedy that historical divisions perform so bad due to their template stats. Those division sizings actually were reduced in the early 20th century to become more mobile (especially Japanese divisions which were huge but benefited from being sized down by German military advisory after lessons from the Prussian-French war 1870-1871), so it was an organizational improvement to have smaller divisions (!). The way how it is played in Hoi4 having better divisions making them larger to "add organization" and cost-effectiveness of support units actually does not make any sense.

      @@Aldrahill nah I get you man just pulling your leg. But I might recommend making divisions from the ground up. For example the us infantry division from your prior video should have been issued 36 at guns and 12 aa .50 cal mgs (or at least I read that as aa since america used 50 cal supported by 37mm cannons for aa roles)
      And that's before you look at the divisional AT battalion (but this was provisional so optional.) Meaning if it was authorized that would jump to needing 72 at guns, 48 arty, 12 aa guns, in addition it looks like paradox doesn't include the security details for arty naturally requiring most arty battalions to also add a free inf bat.
      Turning the starting american division from a 9/1 into a 10/1/2(or 1 for the at) with nonegotiable aa and arty support companies as an example.
      Nice to see I'm not the only nerd weirdo who does this.
      I would recommend niehorster(dot)org as they are one of most reliable sources for unit charts even going so far as to cover obscure nations like Norway or Yugoslavia. As well as allowing you to go from divisional organization to battalion organization in easy flow charts.
      With this knowledge you must not keep Poland alive, you know to pay for your sins against paradox and all that jazz lol.

    Weird thing about the Hoi4 navy, specifically the naval invasion support thing. The fleet will sit there and prove shore bombardment, until the landing is achieved. There is. Maximum percentage, that is added to by each ships light attack values for screens and heavy attack values for heavy ships, which I think is 25%. Take that with a grain of salt, I haven’t min maxed in a long time. If you want your carrier planes to engage, you need to now have them on an order, but rather sitting off shore and then deploy the planes. Hope that helps

      @@Aldrahill You know that carrier with a lock with a box right next to that? If you check that, it allows you to use your carrier based aircraft for air missions. There is however a few things to keep in mind: They are still only 10 plane squadrons to an land based squadron's 100 and of course you have to have the carrier close enough to the combat for the CAS to provide support. This means that if you want to provide CAS by carrier, you should have your carrier fleet not set on any naval missions, but manual control to keep them exactly where you want the help.

    I think another comment said this, but you should be able to use the historical designs.
    A lot of presets aren’t even accurate, and you would be more historically accurate with a better design 9/10 times.
    For example with Germany you will have the Bf109 as a preset. The Bf109 E however will have a cannon and four machine guns or the two cannons and machines guns, which will be historical.
    It would be way more fun if you could actually make the hard decisions sort of like in the war. I.E Make a Bf109 G-6 instead of an fw190 as your improved fighter.
    Be able to make a Stug III to put in your divisions, or SPGS, etc.
    For an improved medium you again could make a Panzer IV H or a Panzer III L.
    For ships remember that one turret is representative of two in game. For example the scharnhorst has 3 guns so it would have two heavy batteries. The Bismarck has four and would also two heavy batteries

  • @MrBulldog855

    So, something you may need to do to get the range needed is to build naval ports in between all of the islands in the Pacific. Additionally, the biggest problem you may be having is that your destroyers are all docked in the default ports and because of that dont have sufficient range to execute the missions you have them tasked with. To fix this, turn off your fleet orders and then manually move them to ports along the Pacific route to the USA before turning the orders back on. Your ships in maylaya will not be able to execute missions near San Diego but ships stationed in Hawaii should. Lastly, and if all else fails, whatever mio you were using to for your destroyers, swith your policy to the kne with the expanded flight deck. It will automatically confer the range bonus attached without haveing to refit the ship. 👍👍

    • @MrBulldog855
      @MrBulldog855 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had a similar issue where I decided as the US to turn all my crappy destroyer ones into escort destroyers. Then I put all the ships on escorted orders but only like two groups were able to execute missions in the Philippines, and the rest were trapped in San Diego with not enough range to execute the orders given. The fix was easy enough, but I was definantly stressing for a minute cause it was mid-1940, and I had already upgraded and built like 200 of these crappy ships before I realized.
