NBA Ballers was (and still is) Underrated

  • NBA Ballers is a blast from the past that still plays and looks great today. It may not be as well known as NBA Street, but it’s arguably even better, and it’s one of the most underrated sports games I’ve come across.

I truly feel bad for the new generation of gamers. The amount of creativity that went into these games was incredible. The companies thrived off of competition and provided so many opportunities and compelling storylines within these titles. We OGs truly didn’t know how good we had it back then …

the PS2 era is goated. when it came to sports games its was like 3 to 4 different companies would make a football game, nba game etc now its just 1 company per sport....2k does nba no comp. ea does madden no comp. sony does mlb no comp.

This was during peak sports gaming. You had so many options for different sports and it catered to all audiences. NBA Ballers was MyPark before the infamous micro transactions took over. True street ball mixed in with NBA players; two cultures combining to make a truly fun game.

100% and if you wanted basketball it wasnt just one company making it. 2k, EA, Midway even Sony made basketball games and thats not even counting the spin offs like And1 and Street Hoops. you were covered on all angles for every type of style you wanted to play. college, pro, street.....now its literally just NBA 2k

So in 2014 I break up with my long-term girlfriend, pack up some of my things in a couple trash bags and have my dad pick me up to go stay with him and get my life on track. I didn't have anything, my old man gave me a 32-in flat screen he had from the guest room and went down to the local pawn shop and pick me up a PS2 slim with about a half dozen games that he thought I might like One of them being NBA ballers. It was just about 2015 but I got lost in NBA parlors and games like fight night round two in round three and other classics on that tiny little PlayStation and that guest room at my parents house. I worked through a lot of bad feelings about a breakup and moving out of my apartment with my girlfriend. I was able to get lost every day in NBA ballers and really just try to enjoy it for the game it was, I was normally a simulation guy and this was new to me. But I loved that game and I'll always remember it as something that help me during a dark time as corny as that sounds. Great game.

The NBA Ballers series is goated. I got more memories with Phenom, but the first two were very similar games either way.
Phenom was basically the fist game with a deeper story mode & more things to do in it. The story was cheesy, but it included Hot Sauce as the main antagonist.
Chosen One had potential, but felt rushed.

Can't even explain it in text the amount nostalgia I have for this game. I still remember the exact day of playing this game for the first time. It was the same day Method Man and Redman show premiered and it was raining that day and I played this mug for hours before the Meth and Red show came on.
I don't think people understand in just a few years we got Basketball games like NBA live 03, NBA Street Vol 2, NBA LIVE 04, NBA Ballers, NBA 2K5, NBA Live 05 and NBA Street V3 🔥
The sad thing is that games like NBA Ballers are from an era that can't can't be replicated

I loved this game series too! It actually introduced me to a fair amount of NBA Legends, although NBA Street Vol. 2 did a lot of heavy lifting as well. Phenom was incredibly ambitious, as it took everything from the first game and expanded it. The free world settings to explore included objectives and mini-games that led to more unlockable items. and there was a storyline with celeb cameos from Luda, Hot Sauce, and MC Jin.
The games weren't always easy either, as the CPU would sometimes go into 'Midway Mode' and just become relentless (if you've ever played a Midway game, you know what I'm talking about).
