  • Machining demo for features in aluminium e-mobility components, part of battery casing used in the demo.
    E-mobility is a term that is connected to a group of components found in hybrids and electric. Many of these are made in aluminium and here we present a number of tooling solutions that can be used for some common features that are found in these type of components.

    Was great until you finished the sidewalls with the indexable tool...

      I guess you refer to the RAL 90 at the end of the demo. RAL 90 is a Router designed specifically for heavy roughing to semi finishing in Aluminium with good surface quality. It is also a first-choice solution for pocketing operations.

      @@sandvikcoromant The latest CoroMill Dura series is pretty good. Maybe you guys can develop some serious, non coated, aluminium roughing and finishing carbide endmills :)

      Also there is no way that is a 10mm depth of cut at 0:42

      Hi Domen
      The cutting data is somewhat incorrect as you point out in that specific sequence, reason is that the film does not show the complete machining sequence. In the sequence shown, it is Ap 3.8mm but on the inside it is Ap 10mm, unfortunately that lost in editing since machining cannot be filmed, sorry for that.

    What coolant are you using for those applications?

    • @sandvikcoromant
      @sandvikcoromant  ปีที่แล้ว

      Most parts of this demo are machined dry, only for visibility. Coolant splash does not look good on screen 😊
      Cutting fluid should always be used in aluminum to avoid smearing on the insert edges and to improve surface finish.
      Si-content < 8%: Use cutting fluid with 5% concentration
      Si-content 8-12%: Use cutting fluid with 10% concentration
      Si-content >12%: Use cutting fluid with 15% concentration
      MQL Minimum quantity lubrication is an alternative, offering other advantages but also other considerations compared with conventional metalworking fluids.
      For sure, metalworking fluids and MQL are complex issues. Regardless of the method used, the basic objectives of the metal cutting industry are high process reliability and high productivity.
      In addition to the economic ramifications, ecological aspects play an increasingly important role, offering potential savings in energy and other resources.
      Recommend to contact your supplier of coolant/lubrication to discuss their options.

      @@sandvikcoromant Thanks for the reply, but I should have been more specific. Do you have a recommended coolant/lubrication supplier or a cutting fluids partner you can recommend for aluminum applications? I use your tools and love them but have been getting staining recently from my coolant and am investigating options.

      Hi again. We use a number of different suppliers depending on market. I would recommend that you contact any of the market leading lubrication companies and share your issues and ask for their recommendation.

    Burr free face milling ??
    A carefully crafted toolpath , can help to make a clean cut, but what about the tool would make that cut "burr free" ?

    • @sandvikcoromant
      @sandvikcoromant  ปีที่แล้ว

      The design of our dedicated auto aluminium M5 milling cutters enable burr free milling. Of course the right programing is also needed for best result. Here is some more information on the M5F90 for example, www.sandvik.coromant.com/en-gb/m5f90

      That is a very nice feature indeed.
      Are the roughing inserts able to manage the kind of wear and tear that comes with machining sandcasted aluminium blanks ?
      If so that tool would be great the shop i work in.
      (Says the guys who has no power whatsoever over the managment of our tools)
