- The main Portland International Airport's terminal, with new restaurant and vendor options, as well as more security checkpoints, officially opens Wednesday. KGW's David Molko got a firsthand look at the "dress rehearsal" event earlier this month, featuring music from Jordan Sings.

Great change. I visited Portland last year and the airport was fine enough but dated. This looks gorgeous.

Seems like the timing is never right. A new terminal, with new restaurants and shops, all planned 10 years ago and finally coming to fruition. But in those 10 years, especially the last 3, Portland's culture has sunk. Criminality from theft to assaults to homelessness to drug use to business failures to pollution - things have gotten so bad. Even the majestic elk statue in the park downtown had to be removed because rioters vandalized it. What the heck did the elk do? But hey, at least we have a shiny new airport terminal.

I have some amazing memories, a handful of photos, and a couple of tattoos to remind me of the truly unique gem that PDX once was, but that seems like a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.
I will NEVER forgive the residents for this either.

You weren’t listening, were you? Those weren’t real passengers - it was a dress rehearsal to test the space, with 2000 invited members of the public. You didn’t see that?! This was filmed 11 days before the terminal opened on 8/14/2024.
And yet our deteriorating roads are legendary. Boarded up store fronts and gutted downtown. Vagrant drug zombies, gang violence, homeless and poverty everywhere. So much for priorities.
Well, during the Summer of Love, the city council DID show everyone that Portland has the biggest woke in the nation, so, yknow, there's that.
And don't forget about the EQUITY!
PDX has equity like a motherfucker!
It used to be that if you worked hard, lived responsibly, and made good choices you could live in a nice, safe place where your kids could play in their yard.
Now, EVERYONE gets to live in a homeless camp, no matter how hard you work!
