  • Making steel shanks is easy. All you need is 0.6, 0.8 and 1mm wide stainless steel wire, a 1-Step Looper tool, round nose pliers, wire cutter and standard long nose pliers (optional). I make shanks for Beast Fleyes, Gamechangers, front and rear articulated flies and in this video my Mono-rig for tubes flies. The Looper tool come in three sizes, but prefer the medium 2.25mm.

Depends what you are making. I mention in the tutorial I use 0.8mm thickness for most applications. For a little more weight and security 1mm (front shank flies for musky for example)

Paul Monaghan thanks! I also use 0.8 mm, but all the time I pine and wanted to try 1 mm

@@user-cb2jp9mo8g The Looper will handle it, but will wear out quicker. Just don't use them to cut

I bought some .81mm and it is pretty flexible. Is it just regular stainless?
