    Great video! I would deffo watch more like this :)
    Until recently I always got the GNR over there confused with the GNR over here in Ireland! Hence much confusion when you have reviewed GNR loco's in the past and I was always thinking they were Irish loco's haha. There are some quite similar looking ones though which is another confusing factor!

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're very kindm much appreciated! haha yes I bet that's easy to confuse - bit of a strange idea to give them the same initials, lol!

    Nice that you found some abandoned railway archietecture! Where I live, I've found two abandoned rail bridges (one of which was demolished in 2016), some old streetcar tracks, and even an old switch tower!

    That's one amazing place Sam. I haven't visited abandoned railway since my uncle's old auction I would go to before he passed away back in 2008. The railway was literally right there, and it was a really amazing place. I wish I can visit more places like there here in the USA. But I will eventually. Great video. :)

    Nice one buddy,
    I love exploring old railways and industrial sites and walking old lines looking out for stuff line old mile posts, signal posts, rail chairs etc.. My favorate walks were the old LNWR line from Penrith to to Keswick, and the Portishead branch in Bristol. Can't do the later anymore as most of the line has been re-opened as a goods only line to Portbury docks, and not been to the Lakes for a few years now so don't know how much of the former is still walkable.
    Still there is the old Midland Bristol to Bath line near me and thats now a footpath and cycle way, worth a stroll if your ever down this way, theres still a load to see including viaducts and bridges to cross, the 1/3 mile Staple Hill tunnel, some preserved stations and the Avon Valley steam railway at Bitton. Its 13 miles long and takes nearly a day to walk (at my speed, I'm getting on a bit!), but can be done in sections and is well worth the effort.
    Anyway more of these if you get the chance please.
    Jon

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Jon - me too, they're fascinating aren't they? Keswick is somewhere we visit often, so it'd be very nice to do that!

    I have an abandoned viaduct near me which is now a cycle route, on the Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway which part of the line is a 'secret' network rail test facility and sadly because we live on the end beyond the RIDC we don't see the Class 37 test trains :(

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice view! Great to see it wasn’t scrapped. Just a suggestion, but can you go to the Middleton Railway in Leeds? There is an old steam loco there that was part of the Caroni Railway in Trinidad. She was left there from 1956 until 2002 when she was brought back to Leeds. She is currently looking to be restored 😁

    How about another Danger Zone Story?
    Out on his travels, Sam came across an old abandoned viaduct of railway status. The viaduct was very worn and flimsy in the middle. Sam had been warned not to walk along the flimsy part, because there was the dreaded danger of that middle piece collapsing underfoot without warning. But he could walk up to it if he wanted to.
    Up on the viaduct, Sam walked confidently towards the worn and flimsy middle part. In fact, he was a bit too confident. A wiser young man would have stopped at the middle part, turned and gone back. But Sam, ever the true dare-devil, decided to ignore his safety instinct to turn back. He was almost certain the flimsy middle part could take his weight, if he walked slowly enough. This was tempting fate the dangerous way. A voice inside his head was urging him to....
    "Turn back! You could fall!" Sam silenced that voice instantly.
    "Oh, stop fretting you stupid voice," mouthed Sam quietly to himself. He went nearer and nearer to the Danger Zone, determined to reach the other side of the viaduct without a care in the world. He came to the flimsy part in the middle and carried on walking over it, until a loud crack beneath his feet made him stop short. Suddenly, the whole middle piece of the viaduct gave way! Sam quickly grabbed hold of a steel sideplate with both hands, his heart pounding with true fear.
    "Help!" he yelled. No-one was around to hear him. Now what?
    "AAH!" Terrified out of his wits, Sam screamed as loudly as his lungs would let him. The sideplate he was clinging to snapped, and he plunged downwards landing in a pile of hay. Sam recovered and walked away, luckily unscathed. That fall had scared him dreadfully. He made sure he listened to a warning from then on, as he knew that next time he might not be so lucky.
    The End

    Really nice place Sam. And what a lovely day. What sort of temps were you having?
    When I lived in Michigan, there was an abandoned sand pit outside of town at a place called Northville. There was a wooden trestle crossing a creek, that was still standing. We would ride the Harleys out there and fish from it. The place, in Summer, smelled deeply of Creasote. Just a wonderful way to spend a Saturday.
    Very nice video from you. Thanx for the day trip.

    Please do more I say part of the old great central I live in an area really close to the old GC and there is a really nice viaduct there. That runs over the Leicester line that runs cross country trains to the virgin line I think

    Fantastic film! Where I live we are losing a huge part of our local rail heritage. Have done for decades.
    (R Beeching) but due to current modern development all rail mounds are being destroyed for housing development. Please get in touch if you would like to share thoughts or make a short video about this area, it would be great to hear your input

    Nice video, love seeing stuff like this, there is a disused stone viaduct near me and old stations, some even have old air raid bunkers.
    And a quick question what is the difference between a bridge and a viaduct?
    I always thought A viaduct had to have arches and made from stone ?

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Kyle! Oh that does sound awesome - ever thought about filming those?! I'm not too sure - I guess a viaduct crosses a large area of land, rather than just a river or road, as bridges do!

    If you ever see the Harringworth viaduct, do not visit corby, it is a s**thole (I live there), but I recommend visiting the village of Gretton, the station is now a house due to beeching, but it's got a nice cafe and a nice weir for a picnic. We used to call it the millpond

    Hey Sam, since I'm having no luck finding a good NG model, I decided to try getting a DukeDog instead. Is there a black version out/planned? Reason I want a black one is because every modeller in my town starts with a blue or green or occasionally red locomotive and I want to try and break that trend. Also went a coal mine on my trip and it was cool, even had a little diesel there. If you want pictures, I can send you some over Messenger. And nice viaduct (not as nice as the coal mine IMO).

    • @SamsTrains
      @SamsTrains  6 ปีที่แล้ว
