Imagine mixing in a little more red than blue and you have a warm purple (violette). If you mixed in more blue you’d have a cool purple (indigo). In general though Green,Blue, turquoise and purple are considered cool tones (one half of the color wheel) and Yellow, Red, Orange and Pink are considered warm tones (other half of the color wheel)

Actually, personality is considered too in styling. Personal colour is only one aspect in styling. So, since Niki likes black, he won't look bad in black, regardless of his personal colours. This is what I learned from a stylist. That's why if you look at it closely, Niki can pull off both black and pink colours in the past. He looks great in both.
