It was one of the closest podium finishes in #WorldSBK and one of the greatest and most amazing last lap battles this Championship has ever seen 😳
#OnThisDay in 1997 history was made at Monza when Kocinski won Race 1 ahead of Slight and Carl Fogarty 🔥

WSBK was awesome in the late 90s. The bikes were awesome (RC45, ZX-7RR, YZF-R7, GSXR-750 and 916) and I just loved seeing the Screamin' Chief helmet of Scott Russell!
Also Honda VTR 1000 SP2 as well. Because Colin Edwards is World champion at early 2000s

Koconski is one of the most underrated riders! He was great!
Yeah, but he wasn't popular amongst the other riders. Apparently too arrogant.
During that same era was another underrated rider named, Rich Oliver, who was small in physical stature, but always ran at the front of the pack thru the 80's and 90's.

When WSB was Great with still many Top name Riders that Everyone knew !!!!!
When JK was on his game and happy with the setup, he was unbeatable- didn't matter if it was a 250, 500, or Superbike - and you could probably throw him back on another race bike TOMORROW and he'd figure out how to get it done- I watched him a couple of years ago at a dirt track race in Perris, California and he was still riding like he was 20 years old- I believe he won every race he entered
Great bikes, great venues and some great riders that genuinely did not like one another. It was all out war back then. Today there's really only 3 guys at the front of every race. Plus it doesn't seem like the factory's have the same intensity about winning. Look at Honda then and now, huge difference.
Give time to honda their are in a long term proyect to come back to the top, they are clearly trying with all the HRC support

I bought all the DVD Collection of these great years in WSB.....Very dissapointed as all the great commentary has gone by Keith and Julian....replaced by post race commentary and it's almost unwatchable....such a shame.
Kocinski was unstoppable that year. Was nothing Foggy could do about it. He ends up chocking bad and crashing away any title chances that year. Kocinski would have beat him again the next year if he had stayed.

This was definitely the best era for bike racing. Beautiful bikes, great characters. Also, you could easily see what bike was what, the numbers on front were really legible! 😂

I miss Monza. I guess the organizers do not have the funds necessary to make it safe. I also missed Imola this year. I think that's a much better choice for an Italian venue than Misano.
I think the reason it's too fast for motogp or skb nowadays... The sbk would pass 350 kmh, and MGP 370
@@pabloperez4063 More like 330 km/h and 350 km/h, but that is not the issue, WSBK and MotoGP do those kind of speeds elsewhere. The run-off areas are not adequate etc....
Monza and Hockenheim in the old configurations would provide the most amazing racing in WSBK and MotoGP if Ducati didn't have that insane top speed advantage.
The WSBK races during 1996-2000 at Monza and Hockenheim were amaaazing.

A fine gara non ricordo la circostanza ma mi sono trovato io John un meccanico il computer e la rc45.
Non potrò mai dimenticare la sia faccia pallida e spossata con quei capelli rossi che lo facevano ancora più pallido dopo aver tolto il casco.
Stava guardando in basso e quando nella sua visuale spuntò la mano del meccanico mentre collegava il computer alla moto.
Alzò timidamente lo sguardo e fece un accenno di sorriso al meccanico.

In the final seconds of the race, why did kocinski steer a diagonal line from left-of-centre of the track,crossing the forward line of the pack, to the right of the track to take the chequered flag?
in taking such a line , did he obstruct rider 6 from applying full throttle for a sprint to the flag

Probably some kind of copyright issue. God forbid the lawyers let us hear the original commentary, as if WSBK or someone else is going to make millions from it.

John pulled off a great win good ride...but the italians werent happy looked like Troy Corser in the ducati was in the lead an timed it right but John covered it...but italy went silent...sorry john come back an win on a ferrari then ull get some cheers...it was agreat battle right to the end but ur bike wasnt red...thats all....

@@dedipriawan gw kenal Superbike juga dari zaman SD. Main game di PC terus pake tim Honda. Ridernya Colin Edwards. Gak nyangka loh dia ternyata mantan juara Superbike tahun 2000 dan 2002.

Yeah, nah. I love it without commentary, especially if you already know about everything you need to know. Just the racing and the sound, it's magnificent. Would love to mute Crofty in F1, he is a shouty know-nothing.
