That night 8 or so years ago… saw Bolt Thrower’s final Overtures of War tour here, rocked the mosh pit and got heavily drunk with the brothers… after the gig we had a good chat with Karl, fooled around, took pictures and helped them carrying stuff back into their tour bus. A girl we met offered her body to him, but the married man rejected in the most gentleman-classy way. That girl was frustrated and ended up with me and my girl later… I will never forget the face of the hotel clerk when we ordered a bottle of wine with 3 glasses. I honestly think, it was the night of my life. All thanks to you Karl!
karl Willets and Andy Wale from Bolt-Thrower playing together destructive songs and bass the from ex Benediction is very good old school Death Metal in our veins
It's a shame Bolt Thrower) didn't continue after their drummer's passing. It was sad but after a hiatus they should've returned with new music. They were awesome.
@@rodlong1802 of course, when you're in a band, it become like your second family, you spend so much time with them, sometimes more than with your wife and friends, the loss of their drummer affected them in a way that its like a family member has died, some bands dont care and recruit as soon as the member is leaving, so after 10 years of members leaving you have one original member staying, its ridiculous. I guess they have disband in honor of their drummer, its an honorable act.
@@Vorkus01 it's a very admirable and honorable act and I have huge respect for their decision, but the music fan in me and BT fan in me thought when it all went down, "Karl's now working with Andy in a new band called Memoriam, why couldn't Andy come back to BT and have them continue?" It's selfish of me, I absolutely know. But, hey! We gained a whole NEW band called Memoriam and they are absolutely crushing it! Hail Karl! Hail Memoriam!
Why so much hate for the vocals? I Like the old angry goofy guy cookie monsta vibe. Just as I totally digged Grave's Hating Life vocal approach. Guess it's not for everyone.
It's actually a mix of bolt thrower and benediction. Check out benediction if you haven't already, their first few albums are great, everything after transcend the Rubicon is basically deathcore for emos
I saw them yesterday live in my local brown pub, Little Devil to only 68 visitors. It was heartbreaking to see these legends play in such a bad band to so few fans. They look, play and sound like very tired old men. I was too young to see Andy Whale in Boltthrower, but he should never have come back after 25 years to play this shit. When I got home I felt very sad, like a big piece of my youth had died. Nothing Remains describes it very well.
HCPunk I’m glad you spoke up as I totally agree. Both my parents suffered with dementia and all that remains IS photos and memories. And the burning of them (for shock effect) I find disturbing. I would’ve expected this from a band in their teens with no real life experience, but not from grown men in their 50s. To be honest I was looking forward to hearing this song following my experiences with dementia, but they TOTALLY went the wrong way with it. A massive missed opportunity to raise awareness of this very cruel illness.
Sarah K women in metal. yeah we nees your emotional bs. which women only "act" like they care cause it becomes something they can cry and manipulate people with. n how fuckin old r u that u buy records still grandma?
Shawn Jones A ageist sexist troll defending the Antifa band Memoriam?! The world’s gone truly mad! As for the song, Nothing Remains is probably the best description of the Willets/Whale legacy i’ve heard so far. Give it up guys, it’s starting to get really embarrassing now.
Sarah K Yeah, because they actually burned the real photos and not just generic photocopied versions???? Look at the video again, it's pieces of paper. The reason why they're burning is because it represents dementia and what it does with your memories. My grandpa died of complications due to dementia and I literally see nothing wrong with this song/video as it represents it in a pretty realistic light and gives it the death metal aesthetic.
Oh, so that's NOT an Antifa shirt Karl's wearing in the latest press photos? Maybe you should also check out some of his interviews where he says he's a "massive supporter of Antifa". assets.blabbermouth.net/media/memoriambandpromojan2018_638.jpg
Musically this stands out from the grey mass of today's death metal...but I'm worried about Karl's vocals here, compared with the familiar tone heard on Bolt Thrower's Those Once Loyal...
Liked their previous record, but this is really meh. Wish -Bolt Thrower- Memoriam made something in the vein of Realm Of Chaos. Something fast and catchy.
Riffs are good. Not sure what all the dislike is about, although I admit that on this first listen the vocals didn't sound as good as with Bolt Thrower. Hoping it will grow on me.
Guys Pull the Bass Trigger Volume Full and dont Scream idk the word in English I mean your voice that make your track Bad I like how you guys Play More brutality like Motörhead and it will be sounds Better. Enjoy
@@davidcouzens It is true that my life is boring but i listened metal for 10 years since 2010 and i know a lot about it. it is hard to surprise me now.
Yea, Karl was an absolute beast back in the day and Bolt Thrower is a fucking legendary band but that doesn’t save him or this new project from criticism. His vocals just sound strained and tired, like it physically pains him to perform them and the music itself is flat and lifeless, some of the most ridiculously plain death metal I’ve ever heard. Plenty of newer death metal bands are doing a far better job at reviving that classic, “trve” sound. Don’t waste your time on this group just because it has a few familiar faces in it.
I thought it was bad enough them shamelessly cashing in on the late BT drummer’s death. Now they’re using Karl’s mother’s dementia. My hero of a Dad has now sadly got vascular dementia. And I think this is just very insensitive, what with the burning photos, and lyrics like “Insanity prevails”, etc. Wonder what the next personal tragedy will be for them to make money out of, on album no. 3? Tragedy sells, and I for one am not buying.
HCPunk If they were milking on the former drummer's death, why didn't they just keep going under the name Bolt Thrower and force themselves to continue even though they didn't feel it was right? Fuck off, you don't know what you're talking about. And I'm sorry you had to deal with dimentia like that, but this is a death metal band and they're using and talking about it in an extreme light to go along with the death metal aesthetic/style. You're offended without the context or knowledge, so you're just being a pussy at this point.
So sorry to hear about your father. That's some incredibly painful shit. I can only tell you that from speaking to Karl, I can say with relative certainty that Memoriam is no "cash in." Memoriam was inspired not only by Martin's loss but also by the loss of Frank Healy's father. The band are comfortable with the fact that they can't do large scale tours because like many fellow old schoolers, (shout out to Scoot from EOM/Doom,) they all have day jobs and families that rely upon their presence. I can appreciate how the images of burning family photos can be jarring and terribly upsetting. I believe that the premise is to communicate the cruelty of onsetting dementia as it slowly works at a person's memories and associations with the people that adore them most. The Silent Vigil is an album intended to communicate the phase of anger one experiences during the grieving process. I think that the violence inherent in the burning of a family photo enunciates that ideal. Karl is a large part of the daily care of his mom and he convey's a tremendous amount of emotion when he discusses her. He simply can't help it; Karl fucking loves her. We're batting around an incredibly raw topic here and it's depiction in any format's bound to stir up painful eddies in those who've faced it or are facing it presently. We're all in this together. My very best to you and yours.
