I find no use musically for the C in this song but I belt it out vocally on the D and G the whole song and keep the chorus the same . My ears just don’t hear anything but D and G when I’m singing it

A lesson would be what the backing track plays not the strumming which is hardly recognizable without the backing track, to prove the point.
