@@Alex_Mitchell I love to hear from people around your age with respect to Trump and his administration. A lot of times I find myself wondering if what I feel is the normal political alarmism that we see every cycle of presidents, but as I've asked those much older than me that have seen many more presidencies, it has been confirmed to me over and over again that what is happening currently isn't just alarmism - it's actually unprecedented and frightening.
I relate to this idea so much as I've gotten older, as I've learned that irresponsible people just seem to cause mess after mess that responsible people have to pick up afterwards. And if these messes aren't cleaned up, then the results will be awful. Also, "Not a Republican problem"...you've gotta be kidding me. First of all, what does that even mean Mitch? Secondly, how is that "not a Republican problem" when Republicans are literally causing this problem?
I agree - now that everyone is home, the government money will be starting to flow in; all sorts of groups are giving away free food. schools are closed bu serving as meal distribution centers. let's all keep this life style going. Jobs aren't needed anymore. Suck on the government tit until all the money runs out.
I'm not too sure that's what I was getting at or that I'm totally on board with going that far, but there's gotta be some kind of healthy medium, something that the US has struggled with for some time.
I assume what Mitch McConnell meant was that Republicans expect to do what they please, trashing the US economy for the benefit of the top 1%, and couldn't care less about the effect on all other Americans, and if people want the mess cleaned up, don't look to them to do it. This is one reason why we need to enhance funding of our education system...its also a good reason to not elect actors and second-rate game show hosts as president.
North Korea has 100% literacy but North Koreans have nothing to read. Americans can read anything in the world but with only 86% literacy a good chunk of them simply can't. The self-described 'best education system in the world' is a lot like the self-described 'best healthcare system in the world'. You get what you pay for because only commies have public systems of anything. The less money spent on a public education system, the less informed the average American voter can be, and the more likely they are to elect someone based solely on how much they can make lib's cry. 'Murica! Fuck yeah!
@@sokar_rostau so you would get rid of the education system? How about the publicly funded police, fire and public works departments that you can call in an emergency or maintain your streets? Is that also 'communist' ? Part of being intelligent is common sense.

The question is WHERE do you cut the Mil budget. You certainly shouldn't cut the people and training. Our manpower (even in the face of surges and deployments) is at historic lows we haven't seen since the post-Desert Storm drawdown, albeit servicemembers are better paid than they have been in the past. Previously we lived at poverty levels. Now it's...OK-ish. The problem is big ticket items being sold on contract by BAE, Raytheon, Boeing, etc., and even more pricey: the repair parts & FSR services from sweetheart deal contracts. These are easier to hide and sneak into the budget than the sticker price of a whole F-35. We simply made better buys with our cash and got more for less before 9-11.

If only it was that easy. If he didn't do it, and quickly, then you would be counting your three rupees now. The banks and U.S. economy would have crashed and the super wealthy would be flying to their private islands.
Andrew I didn't say that the government shouldn't have prevented the collapse of the economy. What I am suggesting is that the government shouldn't have done it in such a way as to enrich the bankers and make them even bigger than before. The government could have taken controlling stakes in the failing banks and thrown the crooks who wrecked the economy in jail for their fraud.
America as a capitalist nation would never tolerate nationalization of the banks. The lobbyist and Republicans would have torn Obama apart. This is why the US also does not have universal healthcare.

The problem is candidates run on campaign promises that will have to be voted on in Congress before passing. They might just have to settle for a compromise. At the beginning of a new term no one is sure, to what extent, a policy will be enacted into law.
How did our country get to a point where we only have the choice between a far right political party and a far right political party full of cartoon villains.
Indeed. It's always hilarious to hear Republicans refer to Democrats as "leftists" and "socialists", when they would be considered well right of centre in just about any other democracy.
One more thing that will have to be cleaned up: US foreign policy and international relations. The next administration will have to make a real effort to convince the international community that they're not going to be Trump 2.0, in essence.
@@likeguiltdoes Outside of electing his polar opposite, as well as sweeping the Senate, no. Even then, the international community will be cautious since all it will take to revert to "America First" is another Trumpian term.

I'm a democrat, but why is Obama going from 100% Debt/GDP to 103% called stabilizing the economy and Trump going from 103% to 105% Debt/GDP called reckless. You're evaluating the same datasets differently based on what party they come from.
Alexander Lenssen I’m confused about that as well. I think it’s because the recession literally happened at the end of the Bush administration (fall 2007). Also when compared to the other increases/decreases, it is not that much and could be considered”stabilized” (regan to bush 1; bush 1to Clinton; Clinton to bush 2: bush 2 to Obama first; Obama first to Obama second). That being said, by that logic, trump should also be considered a stabilizer, which is not his message. I’d suggest you watch mark blyth here on TH-cam for an interesting analysis on the rise of populist economics and politicians like trump and sanders. I think Democrats, most notably in Congress, need to be better at pointing out these very illuminating and important facts. Say it loud and keep repeating. It's what is needed for the American public to pay attention.
Thank you for wearing a proper shirt and jacket. This really means a lot to me. Please save your t-shirts for yard work and laying around the house. Also, statistically speaking, if Democrats voted for Democrats they'd occupy both congress and the white house. The real problem with Democrats is that they don't vote. So vote.
And be sure to wear a proper shirt and jacket when you vote. The content of the message you wish to send lawmakers and executives is irrelevant. The configuration of the woven fibers covering your body when you vote, however, is of the utmost importance.
@@economicist2011 Yes, you get it, content is totally irrelevant. If the non believes need proof, just look at Ronald Reagan, George W Bush and Donald Trump. I am an Aussie, so what happens in America does not directly affect me, of course it does indirectly. Please Robert offer your services as a strategist to the next Democratic Presidential nominee. Your considered arguments would I believe be of great assistance in informing the voters.
This is what I don't understand about the so-called fiscal conservatives. There used to be Blue Dog Dems that were fiscal conservatives. Things have gotten so screwed that suddenly fiscal conservative is lumped with social conservative. Worse is that "conservative" became synonymous with Republican.
Social security owns about 3 trillion of national debt and earns a very small percentage because of federal law. If that money could earn the T bill rate, SS would have lots of money, and pensioners would likely see more money in their pockets, and we may well be able to lower retirement age, and or secure SS for the future.
The next Democrat in the White House will need to clean up: The soaked bed sheets, the national debt, the claw marks where the current president resisted being removed from office, the yellow marks on the carpet right after the claw marks, the half-used vat of skin bronzer, the relations with other countries, the trade deals with other countries, and the cells needed by anyone that tried to do something illegal in cohoots with the current administration. It's like having a roommate that never does the dishes. As long as you keep doing the dishes they are fine with that. I think what we need to do is spend like crazy and leave an even bigger mess than the Republicans so they will be forced to raise taxes and cut the military. Once we have universal healthcare and free college, no president will ever be elected who does not support that, in the same way that getting rid of medicare or social security is the third rail for politicians.

this is also true in my biological family, I am the only Democrat out of a household of eight (adults?), whatever messes my brothers make, I am asked to clean up because I am the mature, helpful, and experienced one, my brothers were raised to be staunch republicans and they enjoy every bit of social benefits Democrats have fought so hard historically to make available to them - public education, social security, medical care, and equality in the eyes of the law, they have no concept of reciprocity or being contributing memebers of the society, they know to take but not to give.
It's sad. Good Luck!
A T cut them out
equality in the eyes of the law?😂 is that why biden passed financial help directly prioritizing people of color and not white people? and you have a very stupid opinion. what you make it sound like is, your brother isn’t a democrat so why should he be entitled to social benefits?
you sound so stupid, maybe your brothers are all take and no give but that’s the democrat playbook. do you not see how AOC wants to pass benefits for people who are “unwilling to work”. oh that’s right, you live with don lemon up your ass.
I have a brother who has needed, and accepted, every financial social benefit in existence. Who has worked most of his life "under the table", therefore having paid precious little in taxes in support of those benefits.

@@Alex_Mitchell can you ever remember a u.s. president being laughed at by other foreign leaders we have sunk so low
@@jssomewhere6740 I've been kicking around on this planet for over 6 decades and have never seen anything like this in the US. (And I remember G.B. Jr. rather well.)
Over five decade under my belt and I've never seen anything like it either it's embarrassing it's also dangerous what happens when we go to war with no allies or we lose all our trading partners
It is incredibly difficult to understand why the voters keep re-electing these demented Republican crackpots.

Instead, we got Biden, who has continued to destroy the financial health of the nation at an unprecedented breakneck speed.

Andrew
I didn't say that the government shouldn't have prevented the collapse of the economy. What I am suggesting is that the government shouldn't have done it in such a way as to enrich the bankers and make them even bigger than before. The government could have taken controlling stakes in the failing banks and thrown the crooks who wrecked the economy in jail for their fraud.
At the end of the day, both of you are right. That’s why Blyth’s argument is interesting because it accounts for that nuance.
America as a capitalist nation would never tolerate nationalization of the banks. The lobbyist and Republicans would have torn Obama apart. This is why the US also does not have universal healthcare.
