  • This video is an interview done by Philip Sarpong, a Doctorate student from Wheaton College Illinois, with myself a South African clinical psychologist. In the video we discuss such as why I became interested in psychology, what my path looked like to become a psychologist, what my day-to-day schedule look like as a psychologist, and whether I've thought about pursuing my education in another country. We also discuss cultural components that I apply regarding treatment for clients, mental health stigma that I see in South Africa and life as a Black Clinician, fighting racism and prejudice. The video ends with personal reflections such as what I do to invest in my physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being and other goals I have for this year.

    You inspire me. I love your confidence and how well spoken you are. I'm doing my honours his year and when I feel drained and discouraged I come to your channel and you remind me why I'm on this journey to becoming a clinical psychologist. You are amazing

    "Generalize contextual stuff...makes it difficult to understand the individual..." 👏👏👏👏👏👏- Even though I'm still studying psychology, I find this reason enough to dispense with many [portions/aspects of] alternative theories to "mainstream" psychology. "Collectivist vs Individualistic"

    It was a great interview. Nice seeing both psychologists I've subscribed to and look up to interacting with one another.
    I actually wanted to ask a few questions. How did you start your private practice? What was your challenges you faced while doing so? Do you have a secretary? How did you gain clients in private practice? What are the areas you looked at to have your private practice? The purchasing of a building to have your practice at? Do you need a huge startup for the private practice to work? Advantages and disadvantages of it? So forth

    Passion. Willingness to help and learn. Wanting to see people come out understanding themselves better. These are a few things I’m getting from this interview (and your channel really). Thank you for sharing but also, you’re igniting flames within people who want to venture into the space of psychology. It’s never too late to go back to school … all the best with your doctorate, your practice and career! 🤩🤩🥳

    Hi Bomi. I am an honours student. Thank you for creating an incredible content 🤗❤️I am inspired by your dedication and hard work 💕
    Bomi I have an examination portfolio for my therapeutic module. The assignment it's done, I just need someone to review it and comment about my application and give critics if possible. That's if you have time 🙏it's due around September.

      Hi Vinoliah, honestly I don't have time right now. I'm immigrating next month and I'm already feeling overwhelmed by things I still need to get done before I leave. Sorry I can't help.

    Hi Bomikazi, this was beautiful! I also wonder how the process of finding work after community service was for you? Particularly with hospitals?

    • @PsychIRL
      @PsychIRL  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hospitals are more difficult to work at emotionally than prisons. Either than that it's been good.
