Totally agree. Some parts of the story were pretty cliche and doused in exposition, but overall the story wasn't afraid to bring up risque topics, which I respect. For that reason alone I think this is the greatest JRPG ever made (just edging out Persona 4 imo). Plus Lloyd is the single greatest protagonist of all time.
@@RisingBeast00 Tales of Symphonia! Man, what are the chances you reply to a 10yr old comment and get some random answer from someone passing by a day later
So glad I found this with a suggestion while I was on "Stone Mcknuckle's" page! I've always loved the "OC ReMix #1812: Tales of Phantasia 'The Unholy Wars," now I have another one to add to my 10/10 list! (And someday I will get around to playing more than just the SNES translated Tales of Phantasia!)
Oh yeah, I balanced the goods and bads of the SNES vs GBA versions and chose the SNES version. I should just get around to playing it anyway, I'd like to see what other changes they made. It would also be really fun to have it be portable on a Gameboy Micro!
@@Martial_Autist I'll have to check it out, I wouldn't mind a graphical upgrade! And who knows, maybe someday they'll update the game again for modern consoles!
Anybody think this remix would be a good choice if they decide to ever make a Summon Spirit the final boss of a Tales game? 'Cause to me, it sounds like a final boss theme. Oh yeah. And does anyone think that this is an awesome remix of a kickass song? ;)
Well, Phantasia and Symphonia made appearances on PS1 and PS2 in Japan, but the overall gameplay had little changes, only a few new special abilities their counterparts didn't have. Same thing happened with Vesperia for PS3. If you can get to play the PSP games Tales of the World Radiant Mythology, play them. The graphics may not be all that great, but it mixes every Tales of, into a game with a storyline that includes them all. And Nikiri Dungeon also is a great choice that never hit stateside.
and just to correct the pic is from tales of symphonia, this song comes from the first tales game which is called, Tales of Phantasia, thats where the track originated from, but i believe they have used it in the other tales games as well
Tales of Symphonia is the distant prequel to Tales of Phantasia, so it makes sense that they use this song to battle against spirits and that some spoilery stuff about Symphonia alludes and leaves a mark on the future in Phantasia to make the worldbuilding connect as much as possible. I think each game shines individually for what the themes the games touch upon.
Everything about it makes it great lol. The story is awesome, the gameplay is amazing, the graphics are pretty good for it's time, and with Director's Cut, being able to play through another party member's story, is excellent. There's extra dungeons and bosses after you beat the game, side quests are fun, and having difficulties like Evil and Chaos, the game progresses to a pretty difficult point.
Ahh yea, I know what you mean hahaha. The highest I'd go would be the 2x multiplier just for getting titles easier. And it's good to see a huge fan supporting Zelos for once haha. He always gets a lot of hate from people D: Don't get me wrong, Kratos is bad ass and all, plus he's got Cam Clarke voicing him.. Damn, sexy voice haha. But Zelos is the most hilarious in the game.
Well you can be over-leveled for Mithos. If you don't get the Sacred Stone and go free play, you're supposed to battle him at around level 60-70 ish. So Level 250 is kind of considered over-leveled in that point of the game seeing as though Mithos isn't exactly the strongest Boss. And yea, I do believe that Abyssion goes into overlimit less in the PS2 version than the GC version. And you are so right there. Brilliant story and damn good gameplay. It's a shame games these days aren't as good.
Now beat both of Mithos' final boss forms in a combined total of less than 20 seconds on Maniac mode ;D In the words of one of my friends, "Watching you play this game is actually depressing. I cant help but feel severely dwarfed. Its actually saddening watching you beat the snot out of everything. I almost literally cant even blink without missing an entire battle! This has got to be unethical somehow. Its just not right." XD Oh, and Ive solo'd Abyssion with Lloyd on Hard mode :3
Presea has better overall damage output, but Lloyd has the strongest non-Hi-Ougi single-hit attack. RoS is fun throughout, but like you said, when you powerlevel the enemies become pitiful and the game becomes less challenge and more self-imposed goals, like god-building Nebilim weapons. ToS:DotNW's final boss, though, can easily be 1-shot. Not 1-hit, but with a single attack. "Eh" game, but loved the mobility and some of the new attack animations, like Sword Rain Alpha.
I'd say Tales of Destiny is better... the remade ps2 version is simply amazing, gameplay is so fun, even my girlfriend didn't care it was all in Japanese, she just loved it. I still play it, even after putting nearly 200 hours into the game! Plus, being able to play Leon's side story and learning all the backstory of him is huge. I'm not going to spoil why he has a side story in the Director's Cut, because that would spoil nearly half the game ;P Leon ftw, favorite char, strongest of all! ^^
Level 250 is the max, and while I agree that the game is broken (albeit so addictingly fun), 1-shot-ing Mithos would take an unreal amount of farming. Ive spent a week of non-stop Nebilim-charging, and by the end, the attack I used as a basis for calculating growth (Rising Phoenix for its single-hit) only ended up doing about 300 more damage. With "Berserker" title since start of the game, level 250, STR-equips, and Lloyds kill count around 12,000+, Rising Phoenix, for me, averages 15,000 damage
Yeah, Zelos is a bit faster than Kratos, probably because hes "the later version" of that kind of character(magic swordsman). Im pretty sure "Seraphim" outranks "The Chosen" lol But Zelos is on the team later, so he has a minor statistic advantage. On my third playthrough, I used "Berserker" from start to finish while leveling up, which further bolsters the already unholy(pun intended) strength of the Nebilim twin swords lol
Bingo. DotNW was really half-baked. Some nice ideas, but really fell short. Though admittedly that secret dungeon on the second playthrough was INSANE. Seriously, they could not have made it any more frustrating. I did it, but what a pain in the ass...
I think you mean Raining Tiger Blade. Thats the only attack that is a "Tiger Blade" special attack combo. The only "Alpha" in Lloyds attacks is Sword Rain Alpha, where he ends Sword Rain with an upward slash. Take it from a guy that has well over 500 logged hours of play time in the game and 11 seperate playthroughs XD
I suppose so hahaha. But you are totally right about fun>awesome. If it weren't for Cam Clarke, I'm not sure I would have even done the Kratos ending haha. Isn't Zelos also just a tad bit faster than Kratos? That's what I've heard, but I'm not sure. And yea, I already got that one, I just to get all the titles haha.
RedLevel It isn't Hang-On, but I have also noticed that they sound very similar. Tales of Symphonia's music was made on 16x bit synth sound card, so they had limited music.
I don't think you can beat the two forms in less than 20 seconds combined on Mania mode unless you're over-leveled or you're using the Devil Arms :O But soloing Abyssion on Hard for the GC is quite impressive haha.
This is going to sound stupid but is the dialogue all in Japanese or is there a language select? I'm only asking because there have been some games i've played where that is the case so i actually had to look up a full walkthrough because i couldn't understand a single word.
@solar464 I apologize, for you must not have decent speakers. Because yes, the audio quality DOES change and gets noticeably clearer when you go into hi-def TH-cam videos, even on average sound systems, whether they be computer monitors, headphones, living room systems, etc. Besides, I still said please.
Im not "over-leveled." There is a max level(250) and I reached it. The term "over-leveled" refers to being an insane level "for that point in the game" but Mithos is at the end, so max level isnt "over-leveled." But yes, I did Nebilim-farm to the point my normal slashes do roughly 4000+ a hit. And yeah, soloing Abby(
It was not a mothership title, so I didn't expect much. What bummed me out was how they were DICKS and locked the former cast at 50. I still gave 0 fucks and did Richter with level 50 Lloyd and such, but damn... ToG though, I think it has the best battle system till now.
I hope they re-release it on like Vita or something so it'll be region free. Also what makes it great? Does it have an amazing story or great characters or something like that?
I know this is eight years old but I'll answer. The story is but wrenching and really wholesome too, some of the best characters ever, though in my opinion some are better than others. The combat and gameplay is very good, just so good. Ive played the game at least four times now and I always think of doing it again. Its timeless. I know I'm a decade late to an already decade old game gut if you want a game that you can truly take something away from. Get symphonia.
@solar464 If you were talking about the difference between true HD and lossless, then yes, I would've agreed. At that level, humans couldn't tell the difference. However, I have no doubt you are listening to this through cheap earphones that give you about half the true quality. (tt's a set of Apple headphones, isn't it?) You can indeed hear a difference in sound quality, given a good sound card and great earphones. Honestly, even try it in your local Bose, though dont buy anything there.
Yeah i played the English translations of Phantasia and Symphonia and Symphonia was amazing. To my knowledge only the first Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology was released outside of Japan correct? Also i think that the PSP is region free so i guess i'll try and find 2 and 3.
It's not a stupid question, but not unless you have the Japanese version on a rom where you can translate it. Some items are rather easy to understand, like the gels and healing salves, but others have a little more thinking to do, and it's a great game nonetheless. I have played it through 5 times through Stahn and Leon's storylines. Latest clear was solo mode Chaos difficulty Stahn's story... trust me, if you play that hardcore, good luck beating Exceed Miktran... he hurts like hell.
I don't really have much choice seen as Namco seem to hate Europe but i agree with apitapi. Abyss is also one of the more superior games imo. Mainly because of a certain character development. Is Tales of Destiny really that great?
I only went for the exp multipliers just as "something else to do", but I agree with you. If you course through the game because of being an obscenely high level, its not as fun. The "Exp x10" was just something else for me. I would never do that on my first playthrough of a game if I could. As for Zelos or Kratos, Kratos is definitely cooler, but Zelos is just downright hilarious. I love both of them, but Zelos takes home the gold for me :P
Oh yea. I never bother with the exp multipliers unless I want the titles. Kinda ruins the game for me a bit, being too overpowered. But yea, he's a bit more challenging in Mania haha. And it really is too bad. It's a good thing I picked this game up again and started playing it again recently haha. Also, quick question: Do you prefer Zelos or Kratos?
You're only considering the first playthrough. By the second or third you can accrue enough Grade for the Exp x10 upgrade, which lands you at roughly level 190-ish as long as you arent rushing through the game. And being a Lloyd-user primarily, my combos merit a ton of extra exp. I was about level 210 before any real level-grinding. As for him not being the strongest boss, thats why I compensated by making it a mania-mode challenge. And you're right. "New-gen" games lack this artistic appeal.
Well, shouldn't Presea be used for One-Shot trials? Anyway, I didn't spend the time doing it, I just pointed out how "easy" it is. Time consuming? Hell yeah, but not HARD. Certainly harder than Vesperia's "LOL ONESHOT EVEN KRATOS", but well, that game is fun BECAUSE its broken, ToS is kinda fair until you start to powerlevel.
probably because people thought that you meant this song was from symphonia, i knew you were refferring to the pic. people get kind off pissy with the details

Certainly harder than Vesperia's "LOL ONESHOT EVEN KRATOS", but well, that game is fun BECAUSE its broken, ToS is kinda fair until you start to powerlevel.
yeah, but this is the Symphonia version
There are no speakers good enough to combat the quality of headset.
Guess i'll have to check it out. I'm guessing it's region locked then so i need a Japanese PS2?
probably because people thought that you meant this song was from symphonia, i knew you were refferring to the pic. people get kind off pissy with the details
@timaeus22222 Sorry, but as much as I love Sixto Sounds, this one is way better IMHO. Especially since one shouldn't slow down boss music >.>
This video currently has 22,556 views, and I am not joking when I say I believe at least 400 of those views are from me. No lie, no jokes, no humor. I am completely serious. The original to this song was already wonderful, and normally good remixes can be quite great, but dont quite out-do the original. With this remix, it doesnt just out-do the original, it BLOWS IT THE FUCK AWAY!! An incredible remix for an amazing song from one of the greatest games ever made. Never fails to give me chills.
damn, im soooo behind on my tales games, lol

@GiggityNinja unless you have some sort of bullshit superhuman hearing that can actually tell the difference to the extent that it truly bothers you, then
IT DOESNT MATTER.
