Lately over these past few years she’s been collaborating with several artists: she also did duets with Korn, Bring me the horizon, bush, body count, Lindsey Stirling, Dave Stewart, wagakki band…
I'm also 60, and female, and I love Evanescence! I saw Amy about four or five years ago when she was touring with Lindsay Stirling. My autistic daughter loves Lindsay, and we both had a great time!
Evanescence has so many great songs. I'd also recommend songs from their most recent album, The Bitter Truth. They just recently dropped a music video for the song Yeah, Right from that album, which is their comment on the music industry.
Amy Lee has a golden voice. It's melodic, haunting, beautiful and powerful all at the same time. Her voice can fill every single inch of a stadium. One of the best vocalists of all-time. And Evanescence is great live. Especially if you saw them in their prime. Though I will note, they are still good and Amy's voice is just as powerful as it has ever been. True gem, that woman is!
Evanescence was formed first but they came out around the same time. The crowds are a mix, Amy is loved by nearly everyone in the rock/metal community. If you're interested in experiencing the rock/metal culture, crowds, and music and you are within distance to get there. Check out louder than life festival in Louisville, Ky. It is hands down the best rock/metal festival in the US.
'Going Under' is my favorite of all their songs, never get tired of it. ❤ Evanescence was created about 1-2 years before Nightwish. As someone who was in my late teens and early 20's when Evanescence was at their height, I would say it is unusually even, both women and men love their music.
“Call Me When You’re Sober”, “Lithium”, “My Heart is Broken”, “Yeah Right”, “Everybody’s Fool”, even more than that. Every song they release is a banger!
@@77Infidel It isn't one or the other, go away with this bullshit. Amy Lee is great, Taylor Swift is great. People who feel the need to put someone down to raise someone else up are the worst.
I saw Evanescence in 2022 at Aftershock, and the crowd for the whole metal festival was evenly split between men and women. We women *love* rock and metal, too.
The first song you heard with the guy rapping and singing wasn't a part of the band. When they put out that song the record company said "no one wants just a female rock singer, you need to have a guy there with you." Amy Lee was pissed about this but it was the only way they would be allowed to release that song and video. After that she said no to every other time they tried to tell her this.
Lithium...Sweet Sacrifice...Tourniquet...are my personal favorites. If you wanna see how a song can change with Amy Lee singing, try Broken with Seether and compare it to the original.
These are very unique cover versions that Amy Lee did. I don't know if there are music videos or just audio files. • Going to California by Led Zeppelin • With Or Without You by U2 • Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing by Chris Isaak • The Chain by Fleetwood Mac (Evanescence) • Thoughtless by Korn (Evanescence) Also, the song with Lindsey Sterling is called Shatter Me & and it's amazing. I can't pick favorite Evanescence songs. There are too many. Going Under is one. Also, Imperfection, Sweet Sacrifice, What You Want....
Definitely mixed people go to evanescence concerts. I'm a man and I love Amy Lee's voice. Also her songs are very relatable to both genders, not just women
since you asked Evanescence first album Fallen released on March 4, 2003 first song I herd off that was Bring Me to Life. Nightwish however first album Angels Fall First was released September of 1997 but I think it wasn't in till 5th album Once got released under Nuclear Blast's label that they gained popularity in the US as music back then was still more about radio play. Nightwish was not getting any air play here till that album and I believe tracks "Nemo" and "Wish I Had an Angel" were the only two singles in the US. I had already been listening to Epica's "Cry for the Moon" (which you should do a reaction to) before my wife and I were turned on to to Nightwish. Epicia released their first album in 2002. I think all these European style of symphonic metal were all inspired by Kamelot thought of as more a "power band" out of Tampa, Florida that came out in 87 and many of the progressive metal bands of the 70's and 80's. German metal has always bend more hard core metal and so many German Metal bands made really big here in the 80's but the renaissance fairs that became so popular in the 80's and early 90's I think helped push bands like Kamelot and others into the real Heavy Metal meets full symphonic orchestra. Then the Goth gen picked up on it in the later 90's into the 2000's. Hope some of that History helps how some of these bands developed and how this sound has progressed over the decades.
Paul McCoy (12 Stones) was only in 'Bring Me to Life' as a compromise with their record company who tried to force a male vocal in the group but Amy said no, but compromised on this one song. And I'm a 45 year old male and I'll rock with Evanescence forever. As a duo, Amy Lee & then guitarist, Ben Moody, self-released the EPs Evanescence (1998) and Sound Asleep (1999), which were followed by the demo album Origin (2000). Their debut studio album, Fallen, was released in 2003, and sold 141,000 copies in its first week in the US, peaking at number three on the Billboard 200. As for Nightwish... The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen, guitarist Emppu Vuorinen, and former lead singer Tarja Turunen. The band soon picked up drummer Jukka Nevalainen, and then bassist Sami Vänskä after the release of their debut album, Angels Fall First (1997).
My Immortal is not about Amy Lee's sister or anyone in her family. The song was actually written as a short story by Evanescence co-founder Ben Moody. He wrote the short story in High School about one of his grandparents that had passed away. They took the story and turned it into "My Immortal". It's basically about when someone you know dies but their presence stays with you. You want to let them go but you can't. The version of My immortal on the Fallen LP does not contain the band section that was added after the release of the album and was offered by Evanescence as a free download so the 2 versions of the song are "Bliss Version" and "Band Version". In the video Ev fans love to point out how Amy's feet never touch the ground and it's because she killed herself that's why she has bandages on her wrists. This is not true. Amy is a spirit of sorts yes but not from killing herself. They are not bandages on her wrists they are ribbons. She has them on both arms and both feet they were just added to match the dress and cool factor. I'm sure she didn't cut not only her wrists but both her feet as well? The Song has NOTHING to do with suicide. If you want a song about Suicide listen to "Tourniquet" by Evanescence. "Are you having suicidal thoughts or you know someone that is?" Call the Suicidal help line and speak with someone that can help you.

I was a teenager in Melbourne Australia during the mid 70’s when AC/DC were just beginning to hit it big with the brilliant Bon Scott and got to see them so many times!! There were just as many females at those heavy rock gigs as males, and the guys were always respectful of us younger girls. It set me on the path for music for the rest of my life and I cannot go a day without it. It’s food for my soul! R.I.P. Bon, you will always be the their frontman to me!
Evanescence has their first demos in 1994, I think Nightwish has their own around 96? Obviously it is not easy to have an exact date, but what i can be sure is there is no way, or at least a little tiny chance they know each other by then, since Evanescence came from a little town in US and Nightwish from a little town in Finland. No internet, not social media, no TH-cam, so i would be pretty much sure they just create and grow as bands by themselves very apart from each other until they become bigger
Addressing something you asked about in one of your other reviews of Evanescence, yes, she does play the piano and yes, she does it during her concerts, even as she’s singing. 😎 Since you enjoy her voice, you might want to check out “Break In”. It’s a ballad by Lzzy Hale which she sings as a duet with Amy Lee of Evanescence. Their harmonizing is frickin phenomenal!
Oh I love this song…This whole album was on repeat for me when it came out. I listened to this album while I ran on my treadmill and I never changed the CD out for 2 yrs…it was my running CD and to this day, I hear this song or any other of her songs start and immediately have my adrenaline kick in and I want to get running!! This song pumps me up
I would say it was 50/50 when I went. I've been to many concerts and I saw them in the early 2000s in Wisconsin, they were popping. Still one of the top 3 shows I've EVER seen in person. I love Amy Lee ❤
Yes, was initially promoted as a “Christian” band, but have gone out of their way to not be labeled, as not to sit out some audiences. Amy is one of the greatest female vocalists of our time regardless of genre. Pure power, but can sing soft too and hit every note.
Seeing Amy under the water in the white dress, that is what I imagine a Banshee would look like. Imagine seeing her in a forest looking like that, run away or approach?
Evanescence, believe it or not, began as a Christian band...along those lines (not one of their monster hits) is a song called Tourniquet. But honestly, there are no bad songs when Amy Lee is at the mike.
It’s a mix for sure - I’ve been to many evanescence shows and there are men and women everywhere. Love my rock concerts! Need more Ev reactions - love your channel!!❤
I was lucky enough to see them perform twice last year at Welcome To Rockville in Orlando, FL and at Download in the UK. Amy Lee still slays on vocals.
Evanescence -1994 Nightwish- 1996 Linkin Park - 1996 Last song had a guest singer from the band 12 stones (guy vocalist in last song) Evenescence draws a crowd of both male and female. Granted more women listen to her.. maybe a 60/40 split. She tours a lot with other big headers like Korn ( I went to their co-op concert just 6 months ago) @Black Pegasus
I can attest that an equal number of men and women like Evanescence (as well as a diverse age group). They have so many good songs and videos. "Your Star" 2016 at the Paramount Theater. "The Only One" 2007 - Nissan Live Sets. "Sweet Sacrifice" 2007 - Live intimate in Australia.
Def here for an Evanescence journey with you! Love the directions you're going! So many good ones from them and Amy Lee is immaculate! Yes, women absolutely LOVE rock! Was so stoked when this powerhouse of a woman hit the scene with some beautiful, raw, transcending vocals!! ❤
One of my theme songs! 22 years of my life was this song. Never again. To answer your question..Nightwish came 2nd. Amy Lee popped on the scene in '02 when this album dropped. Going Under was the first song on the album but Bring Me To Life was the first released off of it. Next you should really do Call Me When You're Sober! GREAT reaction and fornicate the haters my guy..be you!❤
I miss mainstream artists/bands(BACK THEN) that has sense on their lyrics, like this song you don't limit the lyrics to a lover you can also interpret on a bully, it will be depend on the listener and its not limit on female fans even my male classmats back then are bangin this music
Try their "Lithium" - so relatable for me. Her younger sister did pass away. "Everybody's Fool" official clip is great too. Lots of "female-fronted metal" is SO worth reacting to - Delain, Within Temptation, Warlock (going back a ways! but Doro Pesch was my first Goddess!), Xandria, ..... Evanescence and Nightwish have to be in my top ten bands. I have to mention again "Anywhere But Home" - the Evanescence live concert in Paris. Evanescence was started in '95, Nightwish was begun in '96 but got bigger in Europe, faster, and had more material - albums and singles.
I was moshing with my guy friends back in 1995 😝 They always kept an eye out in the pits to make sure us girls weren’t getting pushed around or molested. Just good ol’ fun bangin’ to an awesome track! (5’3” 15 year old lol)
We just saw her in Vegas last year at the Sick New World, she is a beast!!! And yes a mix of 80,000 screaming fans🤘🏻FLYLEAF was off the charts too! Lacey Strum is a powerhouse 🤘🏻
Love this song, thanks for the reaction. While it's not Evanescence, I really like "Broken" by Seether, which features Amy singing with Seether's lead singer Shaun Morgan.
Arguably their greatest song. Myimmortal bring me to like lithium call me when you’re sober, all great songs but this one has the riffs the drums were hitting her voice was killing it the lyrics, overall my favorite song by them You should check out flyleaf/Lacey sturm because the female lead rock/metal leads were killing it at this time! Check out “again “ by flyleaf or rot which is by Lacey’s side project! She’s my favorite female lead!
Thanks dude! I've been listening to Evanescence since they broke in 2003 with BRING ME TO LIFE and I was 43. They were actually the 3rd concert my youngest son and I saw together. And the demographic at that time was slanted slightly toward the younger crowd, split a little towards the men. Women weren't going to metal shows as much. Evanescence changed that🤘 BTW... the 1st concert we went to was Alice Cooper at Ft Carson in '96 and the 2nd was DISTURBED at the World Arena, right after THE SICKNESS was dropped in '06. From the sound of it, your history puts you and my youngest in the same age group. He graduated from Coronado in '05. Really enjoying your content and looking forward to seeing you soon. BTW... your next DISTURBED reaction should be THE LIGHT or for a darker, heavier theme, INSIDE THE FIRE. Your next EVANESCENCE reaction should be CALL ME WHEN YOU'RE SOBER. Amy Lee has had some rough breakups, but none as acrimonious as the split with Ben Moody, Evanescence's guitarist. The last ghoul in this video.
anyone who tells you to not talk when doing a reaction can shove it, because that's what we come here for. the rest of us love hearing you react to these songs and artists. anyone doesn't like it can come speak to me!!!!
A lot of their first album was to do with Amy's sister but while My Immortal dealt with the same subject matter, it was one of the lyrical contributions from Ben. The songs Hello and Imaginary (no m/v for either) are 😭.
I think "Hello" was the song that was about her sister passing? But I don't even remember where I got that information from... Probably from a comment so it could very well be something made up (like "Gone Away" from The Offspring being "about his girlfriend who passed" when in reality it was inspired by a close call with his now wife)
Evanescence was supposed to be all about Amy's vocals, but the misogyny of the music business forced them to have the random guy doing vocals in Bring me to Life. That was their breakout song, and the label basically told them that unless they had male vocals they wouldn't get a contract. Now, 20+ years later, no one has a clue who that dude was and Amy Lee is one of the most famous female vocalists in the Western world.
Howdy another 40 something bro here. Evanescence formed first by like two years, but Evanescence was always Amy Lee. Nightwish had three singers with different styles. Nightwish being european didn't get the same coverage here in America, but the Nightwish Army has always been hardcore to try to get their exposure. As you know, things changed in 2013 when Floor took over. At first they were still playing the old stuff but with her flair, but since then they've produced several new albums and are still going. Evanescence took a hiatus after the 2000's and started releasing new stuff again but not getting the exposure of their first releases meanwhile Nightwish has pushed out twice as many albums and is still not as well known in America, damn shame about that. The comparisons between Amy Lee and several other artists continue to flourish and I'm glad she still gets the recognition she deserves but my ❤belongs to Floor! :)
Technically Evanescence came first, formed in 94 whereas Nightwish was formed in 96. Though back in early days of Nightwish with Tarja it was quite different then current day with Floor. Much more operatic
I think its more like 70% female 30% male for her concerts... and Nightwish came out before Evenesence... There's a video out there where Amy Lee mentioned Nightwish was one of her inspirations... She is one of the reasons, I became okay with being myself. When I started listening to her she woke up a part of me that had long been dormant and I was finally able to express myself in my own lyrics and music I wrote. She has always been a hero of mine! Great reaction to her video!!
You need to react to Evanescence's "Call Me When You're Sober" and "Everybody's Fool" next
And Lithium.
Absolutely.
Agree

Thank you for doing this reaction! This music came out when I was in middle school and it's a trip down memory lane with you💚🤗🍀
Seeing Amy under the water in the white dress, that is what I imagine a Banshee would look like.
Imagine seeing her in a forest looking like that, run away or approach?
Evanescence, believe it or not, began as a Christian band...along those lines (not one of their monster hits) is a song called Tourniquet. But honestly, there are no bad songs when Amy Lee is at the mike.
Tourniquet it’s a cover....
It’s a mix for sure - I’ve been to many evanescence shows and there are men and women everywhere. Love my rock concerts! Need more Ev reactions - love your channel!!❤
Just love people that found Evanescence and Amy and are O___O .
i urge you to react to Everybodys Fool! its 20 years old and still super relevant. Amazong Song, Video and Lyrics. Dont miss out on this gem!
They are awesome live i caught them back in 2007 at kornfest in Albuquerque with my ex-husband.
One of the best songs from the album!!😉😊👍🤙🤟🤞✌✌
I was lucky enough to see them perform twice last year at Welcome To Rockville in Orlando, FL and at Download in the UK. Amy Lee still slays on vocals.
You do you brotha 💯 we here for it....if thay want ta hear the song thay can do that...
"Hello" off the Fallen album is the song about Amy's sister.
Saw them live last Sept. The best female voice live I have ever heard. 62 year old grandmother and still rocking out with Evanescence!!
I saw Amy last year in Vegas. She is still amazing. Gonna see Jinger in April. Sick New tour gonna be fire again this year
❤I enjoy and appreciate your reactions, thoughts, and comments. Keep on keepin' on !❤
March 2003 was when evanescence debut, nightwish csme out November 1997
So many great Evanescence songs. Sweet Sacrifice is another great one and Amy's voice shines
Evanescence -1994
Nightwish- 1996
Linkin Park - 1996
Last song had a guest singer from the band 12 stones (guy vocalist in last song)
Evenescence draws a crowd of both male and female. Granted more women listen to her.. maybe a 60/40 split. She tours a lot with other big headers like Korn ( I went to their co-op concert just 6 months ago)
@Black Pegasus
Amy!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
Call Me When You're Sober and Everybody's Fool are more bangers from Evanescene early days. Brilliance!!
Everybody’s Fool is a must
They just released a new video in New Year’s Eve. “Yeah right” is the name of the song
Would love to see more Evanescence on the channel. Amy Lee is an amazing vocalist. You would probably like Lithium and Call Me When You're Sober.
It's definitely a great mix at all rock shows. Young, old, male female.
This is the truth.
Saw Evanescence live and was back stage she is wonderful
Love Amy Lee, she keeps getting better and better like a fine wine! My immortal is not about her sister, she wrote Hello for her sister.
GREAT reaction and fornicate the haters my guy..be you!❤
Oh man, you have to get into Halestorm- try I am the fire and I miss the misery
Yea boiiii. Going Under is going hard
I was moshing with my guy friends back in 1995 😝 They always kept an eye out in the pits to make sure us girls weren’t getting pushed around or molested. Just good ol’ fun bangin’ to an awesome track!
(5’3” 15 year old lol)
This one was the first Evanescence song I ever heard back in the day, and man, what an introduction it was.
❤ NEED to do Call Me When you're Sober by them!!!! The video to it is AWESOME!!!!! ❤
We just saw her in Vegas last year at the Sick New World, she is a beast!!! And yes a mix of 80,000 screaming fans🤘🏻FLYLEAF was off the charts too! Lacey Strum is a powerhouse 🤘🏻
Everybody’s Fool is awesome !!
Definitely a mixture. Back in the day you found me in a mosh pit at the front of the stage. Many boots to the head and concussions but tons of fun.
Love this song, thanks for the reaction.
While it's not Evanescence, I really like "Broken" by Seether, which features Amy singing with Seether's lead singer Shaun Morgan.
Arguably their greatest song. Myimmortal bring me to like lithium call me when you’re sober, all great songs but this one has the riffs the drums were hitting her voice was killing it the lyrics, overall my favorite song by them
You should check out flyleaf/Lacey sturm because the female lead rock/metal leads were killing it at this time!
Evanescence changed that🤘
BTW... the 1st concert we went to was Alice Cooper at Ft Carson in '96 and the 2nd was DISTURBED at the World Arena, right after THE SICKNESS was dropped in '06.
So the song Hello is about her sister who sadly passed away when they both were young. Great reaction song, please cover it. 🙏
I love Amy Lee so much, I pray for healing in her life during this tough time for her ❤
The music we used to listen on MTV 😢
Evanescence 1994
Nightwish 1997
I think its more like 70% female 30% male for her concerts... and Nightwish came out before Evenesence... There's a video out there where Amy Lee mentioned Nightwish was one of her inspirations... She is one of the reasons, I became okay with being myself. When I started listening to her she woke up a part of me that had long been dormant and I was finally able to express myself in my own lyrics and music I wrote. She has always been a hero of mine! Great reaction to her video!!
Amy Lee is an amazing vocalist you should check out her cover of Going to California
