    Mike: What are you doing?
Frankie: Getting these in the garage before the kids wake up!
(Proceeds doing so while yelling out loud)

This is one of the show's funniest Christmas episodes, largely because of this scene.

I know that your supposed to respect the parents wishes but Frankie was being rediculous. A good compromise would have been the grandparents bringing the kids one or two presents

But thats all grandparents, its how they get you when you get older, my grabdparents spoiled me rotten and i have so many fond memories of christmasses with them. And as christmas went on and grandparents couldn’t come iut as often i saw the stress of my parents to even put on a simple christmas which they wanted everyone to enjoy. Let the grandparents help if they want to.

It’s not. The people who always think they are over the edge financially was buying to make things equal in shape and number and amount. Most of what they bought was for the sake of the pile. In that episode they found 2 shower radios in the basement unopened. One blue and one pink. The kids shared one bathroom it didn’t make sense. But they could not buy for one and not the other teen a shower radio. Only one asked for it. Just makes clutter. It was that mentality that bought on the idea. Also they found a word calendar a day for Brick. Thoughtful but only purchased to make the pile bigger and equal. They would be better to buy the kids what they needed as the year went on and Xmas for the wish. Simple.
The talking globe and iPod not particularly cheap. It was $200 something for an iPod that year. Amp prices vary. The talking globe in that year probably around $200. They spent at least $400 in total on their simple Xmas plus food for 2 extra people for 12 days. That is just insanity. They don’t live that far away. Five days plenty.
In 2010 a kid getting an iPod isn’t a kid that is suffering.
They also had a job layoff for 4 months a year before.

The tale as old time parents who struggled to make ends meet telling their kids to appreciate what they got. Become grandparents then try to make up for it by delivering the Christmas they failed to give in the past. My grandparents did the same.

If you watched the episode, it had nothing to do with that. She did this because she found all the expensive Christmas presents from the year before, in the basement, still unopened and never used. She was trying to teach them not to be so ungrateful.

@@nemesis1108 yes I agree, but what I was referring to was your comment , that said, because she didn’t get much as a child, she didn’t want her kids to have anything and that not what it was. However, I can also understand, why she is doing this. If I spent a crap ton of money to get my daughter what she wanted and the next year I find the stuff still unopened and never touched, I would be piss to.

Although I think Frankie is taking it a bit too far the grandparents overstepped and had no right to undermine her like that. Let's put ourselves in her shoes. She does something she thinks is best for her kids and the grandparents go behind her back and do the opposite. Anyone of us would be poed.

Frankie is right. The rest are wrong. But you can’t control what others buy, only yourself. She thoughtfully bought what each child wanted and put down a significant amount of cash for each item. It was ruined through the excess of her parents. How did they fit all that in the car? The year before they were upset it was 2009 and all the items that were buy now zero interest suddenly due with an interest payments cause he was out of work for month when the quarry closed down. They were a typically family awful with money.

Maybe it's because I'm not American and have therefore never participated in the rampant consumerism that is Christmas in the US, but I hated this episode. I completely agree with Frankie, because that's actually how most people in my country celebrate our version of Christmas: with restraint and on a budget. Thought it was wild that everybody somehow convinced Frankie that she was the bad guy in this situation, but these comments are teaching me that you people actually do think that the holidays should be celebrated by mindlessly throwing money around

    • @kristinesharp6286

I grew up with few things between bday and Xmas. That was the time of feast. Taught delayed gratification I guess. But it was abundant. And then I went to relatives homes and got more. And had a sister so a lot of one can’t get a Barbie without the other but we shared the dream house. They could have bought 2 had they not felt a pile of stuff necessary for each of us, moneywise it would have worked out. But the pile has to look so tall… My uncle a carpenter and made a place to store Atari games and the console and joysticks. I’m showing my age. But some gifts homemade. It was all too much. It was all hurry and finish opening. It was often refraining from joy cause sometimes mom would say, oops that was for your sister. One year we each got pjs and the top size of hers went in my box and mine hers. Some years we would get double presents cause she forgot she already bought those ornaments and bought them again.
When having a child my husbands family more modest for Xmas. Two years in we realized we could not make my mom buy a lesser number of gifts and we had to adjust our own giving and Santa’s, so I never got to see my child go downstairs and open a stack of presents. He is 18. Slightly miffed about that. But all that matters according to my mom is it makes her happy. 🤦🏼‍♀So he would get 3 gifts and a stocking at our house. A gift from each of us and one from Santa. Because it was a ‘no more presents’ crying situation day of Xmas with all the places we went to open gifts. When then gave him ours on the eve. So just one gift from Santa in the morning and then hurry in the car to go to grams. I don’t think it’s right her parents bought each child 20 gifts. What if the kids aunt struggled to just buy each one gift how would she feel seeing the kid get 20 gifts from gram. It’s wrong to complain they don’t appreciate it, they didn’t even ask for it. It is overwhelming. Some of them, like the shower radios they found sparking this simple Christmas idea, will go unopened. Frankie and Mike were always buying now and paying later. And then when it came to pay later he got laid off. Nothing wrong with 3 somewhat costly gifts bought and put under the tree for 3 kids that they specifically asked for. They would get a few gifts from grandparents too. They had relatives.
